Chapter 1

Yelena Moon, the new intern, claimed to be someone who could bring wealth to everyone. Apparently, the lottery numbers she had her eye on would definitely win a prize.

Everyone lined up to get her to buy lottery tickets for them. Surprisingly enough, they became millionaires overnight.

But I soon realized that whenever Yelena won a lottery prize, I'd lose money to all sorts of incidents and accidents.

I might suffer from a bone fracture one day, only to get into an accident that required a surgery the next day.

Even my own luck started to run out when it came to my own wealth. I kept failing my investments while racking debts nonstop. In the end, the loan sharks came knocking on my door.

My senses were all frayed at that point. In a fit of despair, I demanded answers from Yelena, only to get scolded by everyone else.

"What do you mean Yelena swapped out your luck for hers? I think you're just jealous of the fact that everyone's getting rich now!"

"You can't even retain your own wealth, and yet you have the guts to frame a young woman for such nonsense! People like you are absolutely toxic to this world!"

I tried my best to defend myself, but not even my own dad believed me. To rub salt into my wounds, he even treated Yelena as his own biological daughter and kicked me out of my home.

Later on, someone tossed a sack over me and kidnapped me. After torturing me to no end, they threw me off a high building, I was crushed beyond recognition.

When I wake up again, I've returned to the day Yelena is flaunting her financial luck.

Upon noticing how smug she looks, I start buying lottery tickets like mad.

"What a coincidence! I'm also super lucky when it comes to wealth!"

When my colleagues heard my words, they immediately mocked and called me a copycat.

"You're always trying to compete with Yelena, Evie Blaze. Can't you stop? You're just some broke nobody, and she's way out of your league!"

"Exactly! Yelena's family is well off. Her dad is the chairman of our company, so she couldn't care less about some lottery winnings."

"It's a blessing that Yelena's helping all of us make money, so I won't let you give her a hard time!"

The irony was that all the money they'd won thanks to Yelena Moon was mine. Even the company's chairman was my father, who had nothing to do with her. Yet in my past life, he'd chosen her, an outsider, over me…

Thinking about how my father treated us so differently, I gripped the lottery tickets tightly. Right now, my priority was to figure out ways to sever the link that tied my luck to hers.

When Yelena noticed my silence, she flashed a smug smile. "Thanks, guys! But who knows—maybe Evie's the walking lucky charm."

"She's holding a lottery ticket right now, so why don't we have her scratch it and see?"

At that, the crowd started egging me on, shouting for me to scratch the ticket right then and there to see if I'd won. Some of them even started placing bets.

"I'll bet a full year's pay plus my bonus that Evie's ticket isn't worth more than a thousand dollars!"

Another laughed and chimed in, "I bet there isn't a single penny on that ticket! I put ten years on it, and if I win, she has to hand over ten years' worth of her pay!"

They got so carried away that they even drafted a mock betting agreement, insisting that I sign and thumbprint it.

I backed away and tried to escape the chaos until I slammed into someone, who grabbed my wrist tightly.

"You sounded pretty confident when you said you had great luck, Evie. What's wrong? Are you too scared to bet now?"

It was my fiance, Nate Ryder.

Just half a month ago, we'd sweetly celebrated our third anniversary. We'd even tattooed each other's names on our bodies and vowed to never part.

Now, unmistakable disgust and indifference were written all over his face as he shoved me away with such force that I hit the ground hard and slammed my head.

Blood trickled down my face. The pain was so bad that I couldn't get back up, but not a single person showed concern. If anything, they cheered.

That scene was just like my past life. Whenever a ticket Yelena picked ended up winning, I would suffer accidents, injuries, or even life-threatening situations.

Sure enough, a colleague's phone chimed, and their face lit up with joy.

"The lottery ticket Yelena told me to buy hit a hundred-thousand-dollar prize! I'm going to be her devotee for life!"

Everyone rushed to congratulate him. Even Nate ignored me and turned to look at Yelena adoringly.

"You really are a lucky star, Yelena. Whoever gets to marry you will be the luckiest man alive."

Yelena glanced at him shyly, but when she looked back at me, her eyes were filled with innocent malice.

"I never meant to compete with you, and I don't want you drowning in debt either, Evie. As long as you sincerely apologize to all of us, I won't hold it against you."

Nate stepped in front of her and said, "Don't pity her, Yelena. A bitter, jealous person like her would never admit she's wrong.

"Let's just leave her lying on the floor, and she can go to the hospital after she apologizes."

I could feel my heart turn cold when I heard Yelena sigh almost regretfully. "Well, I guess there's nothing I can do, Evie. Since you're too scared to scratch your ticket and won't apologize, just stay there."

Bit by bit, I lost all my strength and slipped into a half-conscious state. Yelena immediately volunteered to take me to the hospital.

On the way, she quietly scratched my ticket before I heard a notification ping on my phone.

"Payment of 1,000,000 dollars received. Please check your balance."

She clicked her tongue in annoyance and muttered to herself, "Good thing you didn't scratch it yourself, or my secret would've been out…"

Suddenly, it all clicked.

Scratching my lottery tickets myself meant that I could siphon Yelena's luck back from her!
