My Sister Slept With My Groom to Save Me Chapter 1

The Plaza Hotel smelled like a million dollars of crushed white roses, but down in the subterranean parking garage, the air was stale and heavy with exhaust. I gathered the voluminous skirts of my Vera Wang gown, the silk rustling like dry leaves in the quiet cavern. In my hand, a velvet box held custom platinum cufflinks—a pre-wedding surprise I couldn't wait to give my perfect fiancé.

Callum’s black SUV sat in its reserved spot, a gleaming monolith of polished steel. The doors clicked unlocked as I approached with his spare key fob. I slid into the driver's seat, intending to leave the box on the center console. As I leaned over, the scent of his bespoke bergamot cologne washed over me, rich and familiar.

Then, I saw it.

Hanging from the garment hook in the back was his backup tuxedo. Resting starkly against the midnight-black lapel was a single, pristine white hair.

My breath caught. *Luna.*

Our cat had been dead for months. A horrific incident Callum had been so terribly sympathetic about. There was absolutely no reason for her fur to be on a tuxedo tailored just last week. It was deliberate. An arrogant, silent taunt left out in the open. A sudden, violent chill spiked down my spine, freezing the blood in my veins.

My fingers trembled as they brushed the center console. The SUV’s active dashcam system sat dormant. Driven by a sickening, magnetic pull, I tapped the screen. The system booted up, casting a harsh blue glare across my heavily powdered collarbones. I scrolled to the most recent saved clip. Last night. 1:15 AM.

The video flickered to life. The interior cabin view.

The air vanished from my lungs.

There was Callum, perfectly coiffed, his tie undone. And straddling him in the passenger seat, her hands tangled in his hair, was my older sister. Helena.

The audio was horrifyingly crisp. The muffled gasps, the frantic rustle of fabric, the low, possessive growl in Callum’s throat as he pulled her closer. Helena—the sister who had shadowed my entire life, who looked at the world with deadened eyes and a cigarette perpetually between her lips—was kissing my fiancé with a desperate, destructive hunger.

I stared at the screen until the edges of my vision blurred into black. The velvet box slipped from my hand, the platinum cufflinks spilling onto the floor mats. I didn't cry. The betrayal didn't manifest as tears; it ignited as a slow, blinding inferno in the center of my chest.

I killed the engine. I stepped out of the SUV. The heavy silk of my gown no longer felt like a fairytale; it felt like armor.

Upstairs, the Grand Ballroom of the Plaza was a blinding sea of crystal chandeliers and New York’s elite. The string quartet was playing something soft and classical as guests mingled before the ceremony. I pushed through the gilded double doors, the heavy thud drawing the eyes of five hundred billionaires, socialites, and board members.

"Ivy?" My father, Richard, stepped forward from the crowd. His silver hair caught the light, his face etched with sudden, deep confusion. "Sweetheart, what are you doing? The ceremony isn't for another—"

I walked right past him.

Callum stood near the towering champagne pyramid, a vision in his primary tuxedo. Not a single hair out of place. His eyes, usually warm and inviting, flashed with a microsecond of cold calculation as he took in my rigid posture.

I marched directly to the band's staging area and ripped the microphone from its stand. A sharp screech of audio feedback pierced the ballroom, silencing the murmurs instantly.

"Ivy, darling," Callum said, his voice a smooth, perfectly modulated purr as he stepped toward me, hands raised in a placating gesture. "What is going on? You're shaking. Let's go to the suite—"

"The wedding is off," I said. My voice didn't shake. It echoed through the cavernous room, cold and absolute.

A collective gasp rippled through the high society crowd. My father blanched, gripping the back of a gilded chair as if the floor had dropped out from beneath him.

Callum’s flawless smile fractured, the muscles in his jaw ticking. "Ivy, sweetheart, you're hysterical. The stress of the day—"

"I saw the dashcam footage, Callum," I interrupted, the words slicing through his polished facade like a scalpel. I locked eyes with him, watching the warmth completely drain from his irises, leaving behind a dead, sociopathic void. "I saw you and Helena in your car last night."

The silence that followed was suffocating. The name dropped like a bomb. *Helena.*

Callum’s knuckles turned white as he violently adjusted his expensive cufflinks, his mask slipping entirely. "Ivy, you don't understand what you're doing. You're making a scene over a misunderstanding—"

"I understand perfectly." I dropped the microphone. It hit the polished marble floor with a deafening crack.

I turned my back on the man I thought I loved, on my father's horrified stare, and on the smoking ruins of my sheltered life. I gathered my skirts and marched out of the ballroom, the heavy silk trailing behind me, leaving Callum completely powerless in my wake.
