Chapter 2

When they returned the next morning, they found my body—eyes open, bleeding from my ears, nose, and mouth.

Amanda gasped in shock. Jason quickly tried to calm her.

Then he and the two other roommates helped Amanda fabricate an alibi. They spread lies that I lived recklessly, hooking up with men at nightclubs, and eventually contracted a fatal disease, dying of HIV.

The university brushed it aside. The police never investigated.

The story leaked online, and even after my death, I was cyberbullied mercilessly. People called me a slut, said I was filthy, and that I deserved to die.

Some enraged strangers even spray-painted vulgar slurs on my parents’ home, asking how they could give birth to someone so shameful.

Eventually, my parents couldn’t bear the humiliation and grief—one died of a stroke, the other fell to their death.

Back in this life, I was determined to see Amanda’s downfall.

But just now, I had blurted out that her snake was a venomous banded krait.

Emily Brown stared at me in shock. “Lily, what are you saying? There’s no way it’s poisonous.”

Sophia Davis also nodded. “The snake is cute. Amanda even named it Bubbles. Don’t spread rumors.”

Though they feared the snake too, they didn’t dare offend Amanda. After all, Amanda had money. She often treated them to food, bubble tea, and even bought them pads, moisturizer, and sunscreen.

In my past life, when I said it was poisonous, Amanda grew angry and they sided with her, leaving me isolated.

This time, I coughed lightly and smiled. “Amanda, Bubbles is adorable. How could it be poisonous? Emily and Sophia were just joking with me, saying it was venomous, so I repeated it.”

The two froze, stunned by my words. Amanda’s expression brightened instantly.

Not long after, I received messages from Emily and Sophia in our private group chat without Amanda:

Emily: “Lily, why did you say that? By the way, the snake really is a banded krait. It’s dangerous. Please tell Amanda to get rid of it!”

Sophia: “If she doesn’t listen, just tell the RA and have her punished!”

They both knew it was poisonous.

But they never dared confront Amanda. Instead, they always pushed me, the “nice one,” to speak up.

That was how I died last time—listening to them.

Amanda looked at me and smiled. “So Lily, you don’t mind me keeping the snake in the dorm?”

“Bubbles is so cute. Why would I mind? I’m thrilled.” I replied.

Emily and Sophia panicked in the group chat.

Sophia: “Lily, are you blind? It’s venomous!”

Emily: “If it bites someone, it’ll be trouble!”

In that group, they often gossiped about Amanda, saying her money came from questionable sources, that she had several sugar daddies, and worked at nightclubs.

I sent a tongue-out emoji, then took a screenshot.

Realizing their mistake, they scrambled to cover up:

Emily: “Lily, we were joking. Of course Bubbles isn’t poisonous.”

I replied with a laughing-crying emoji.

Satisfied that no one objected, Amanda set the cage on the dorm balcony and fed the snake.

I headed off to class, and afterward, found an apartment for rent near campus.
