My Mate Dug Up My Father's Grave Novel Cover

My Mate Dug Up My Father's Grave

I guarded my father's grave—a hero who died saving our pack. One night, his runestone was replaced with cheap pink marble, his ashes dumped in the flooded Under-Crypts. The one who ordered it? Kael. My fated mate. The future Alpha. He did it to bury a dead dog for Selene, an Omega from a foreign pack he was trying to impress. When I confronted him, he rolled his eyes. "Your father is just a collection of old bones. It's not as if he can feel the cold." He thought I was a weak Beta who managed graves. He didn't know I carry the bloodline of the White Wolf. I didn't cry. I gathered evidence, walked to the Supreme Council, and filed three petitions. One to strip his title. One to exile his accomplices. One to reject him completely. It was time he learned who he had betrayed.

Chapter 2

Elara POV

I regarded the whimpering wolf before me, a tool to be used. "You will render a magical copy of this page," I commanded, my voice leaving no space for refusal. "And you will affix your signature, attesting that it is a true copy made under your hand."

"But... the future Alpha..." he stammered.

I drew the silver dagger from my boot, its polished surface reflecting the meager candlelight. I did not press it to his throat, but merely rested its flat, cold side against his trembling hand on the desk. "The future Alpha has broken a sacred law. You were his instrument. Your only path to survival is now paved with cooperation. Do it."

He nodded frantically, his hands shaking as he fumbled for a blank sheet of parchment. He placed it over the contract and muttered a duplication incantation. A soft blue light swept over the page, the ink bleeding through to the copy in perfect mimicry.

I snatched the copy from the table.

There, at the bottom of the page, was a blood oath signature.

The dark red ink belonged to Kael.

Beneath the reason for relocation, his script was a careless scrawl: Temporary Placement.

He had bartered my father's consecrated rest for a political flirtation.

I folded the parchment and shoved it deep into the pocket of my heavy wool cloak.

I left Zephyr a crumpled heap on the floor and moved toward the northern edge of the grounds.

The entrance to the Under-Crypts was a heavy iron door, its surface a tapestry of rust and creeping moss.

The rusted iron door groaned under the force of my shove.

The stench of mold and stagnant water billowed out to meet me.

There were no magic lamps down here, only a dense, suffocating blackness that swallowed all light.

The stone steps leading down seemed without end; by the third level, the chill of standing water had breached the tops of my boots.

I stopped at the very bottom.

I navigated the narrow corridor until I reached the cell marked G-0892.

It was not a grave. It was a mere storage locker, sealed with rusted iron bars.

Through the mottled metal gaps, I saw it.

My father's purple sandalwood urn sat forlornly on the damp, filthy floor, half-submerged in a puddle of sludge.

There were no offerings.

There was no eternal flame to guide his soul to the Moon Goddess.

He had been sitting in this lightless, fetid space for nineteen days.

I reached out, my fingers wrapping around the iron bars; the rust on them bit into my palm like splinters of ice.

The cold metal bit into my skin.

I remembered the exact moment the Silver poison took my father's life.

He had whispered that he was so cold.

My balance failed me, and I had to brace one hand against the damp stone wall to keep from falling. The sharp, uneven rocks of the floor dug into my knees through the fabric of my dress, but the sensation was distant, unimportant.

The pain in my chest was not a weight, but a shard. My lungs felt as if they had inhaled a draft of powdered glass, each breath a fresh agony that pulled at my nerves.

My Inner Wolf let out a long, sorrowful whimper that echoed in the hollows of my mind.

But beneath the grief, something else stirred—the White Wolf, ancient and patient, pressing against the cage of my ribs. Not yet, it seemed to whisper. Not yet. But soon.

I stayed there for a long time, letting the damp cold seep into my bones.

Then, I stood up.

I walked back up the stairs, leaving the darkness behind.

I climbed into my carriage waiting outside the crypt gates.

The driver looked back at me, waiting for the command to go home to Kael's manor.

I did not speak.

Instead, I pulled out a small magic portrait from my cloak.

It was a moving picture of the day my father's tombstone was placed.

In the picture, the white magnolias swayed in the warm breeze.

A hot pressure built behind my eyes, but I refused the release of tears.

Tears were for the weak.

I was a White Wolf, and I knew the Pack Law better than anyone in this territory. My father had spent years teaching me, not just the sacred rites of the crypts, but the legal codes that protected them. He knew this day might come—not this exact betrayal, but the day someone would test the sanctity of what we guarded. He had prepared me for it.

My mind, now honed to a razor's edge by grief and fury, began to assemble the facts.

Kael had committed three major crimes.

First, he broke a sacred magic contract that was registered in my name.

Second, he violated the core Pack Law by disturbing a hero's rest.

Third, and most unforgivably, he had permitted an outsider's pet to defile our Ancestral Crypts, a place bought with the blood of our warriors.

That was a direct blasphemy against the Moon Goddess.

It was a crime punishable by exile.

"Drive," I told the coachman.

"To the manor, my lady?" he asked.

"No," I replied, my voice a steady, low thing. "Take me to the estate of Silas, the Law Enforcer of the Supreme Council."

The carriage lurched forward into the night.

I looked out the window at the passing forest.

Kael thought I was just a quiet, obedient Beta who managed old graves.

He was about to learn that the crypts were not my prison—they were my domain. And in my domain, I was not prey.
