Chapter 4

“You go about your business and I'll be a good husband. I’ll wait for you at home, okay?”

With a sigh of relief visible, she had her secretary personally send me downstairs. Before I left, she also specifically told me that the Harperwood Family would be hosting a dinner party tomorrow night. It was to celebrate Edmund's return. After all, Edmund was the president of the group and wanted to save face.

To the outside world, they all claimed that Edmund was abroad for further study. They didn't mention the fact that he was in prison. I nodded and said that I knew about it. I won't make trouble at the dinner party. She then felt relieved to send me away.

Back home, I unloaded the wedding photos on the wall. I used scissors to strangle them a little bit. Then I threw it into the trash can. In the evening, Elizabeth didn't go home. Instead, Edmund re-logged into his social account.

After a long time, he sent an Instagram post. He posted a picture after a long time. It was a candlelight dinner for the two. The woman didn't show her face, only a slender wrist. But you could see the difference in skin colour with the surrounding skin. It was Elizabeth. I liked the picture as he wished. Then I turned off my cell phone and packed my bags.

The next morning, the secretary brought a dress for Elizabeth. I opened it and took a look. It was an old model that was eliminated last season. In the evening, when I arrived at the banquet site. Mackenzie had just finished her speech. She handed over all of the company's projects with the Emberlyn Family to Edmund Forrester.

There was a lot of envy on stage. They complimented Edmund for his good fortune. Both rich plums held him in their hearts.

The moment I appeared, the crowd was instantly silenced. They were showing an expression of watching a show. Meanwhile, Elizabeth was too busy socializing. She had no time to pay attention to me. Edmund then hosted her for a while.

But a few minutes later, he took me to the upstairs terrace. In front of me, he stopped acting and exposed his true colours. His expression was full of sarcasm and sinister.

“Sebastian, after so many years, you're still as useless as ever. These three years I've been abroad. I really thank your wife. Because of her, I've lived a good life. You don't think Elizabeth married you because of love, do you? I want to tell you the truth. If it wasn't for you suing, she wouldn't even give you a single glance, Sebastian. You're just a joke for her.”

Anger flared up in my heart after hearing Edmund's words. I couldn't hold back any longer as I slammed a hard punch into his face. He sneered and stepped back quickly. He rolled down the stairs.

The hall resounded with screams. Elizabeth rushed over at the first opportunity. She held the person in her arms. Raising her eyes to me, her gaze filled with anger.

Elizabeth shouted to me, “Sebastian Cuthbert, what are you doing? Are you crazy? Edmund kindly entertained you. Why are you pushing him? Didn't you say you wouldn't pursue the matter back then? Why are you making a scene about today?”

My expression was cold at that moment. My voice was emotionless.

“I'm making a scene, Elizabeth? Are you sure? What happened back then, shouldn't you give me an explanation?”

She wrinkled her eyebrows. A flash of panic in her eyes.

“What do you mean, Sebastian? Explanation for what? Didn't Edmund already make amends to you for these three years? What more do you want now? One size does not fit all, Sebastian. No matter how it was before, it's not a reason for you to make a move on him today. So, I want to apologize to him now!”

Not waiting for me to open my mouth, Edmund was already in tears of aggression in her arms. “Stop, Elizabeth. Don't make it difficult for your husband. Back then a thousand mistakes were all my fault. I felt sorry for him. Today's matter is my apology to him, Elizabeth. Since he hates me so much, let's not contact each other in the future, okay? I don't want to make these things more difficult for you.”

The nails were ruthlessly embedded in the palm of my hand. My blood dripped down. At that moment, both Edmund and Elizabeth embrace each other. They then leave together. It made me know that we were done.

Elizabeth was stunned for a moment. She didn't understand what her secretary meant. It was only after a long time that she came back to her senses.

“A letter of apology? Are you kidding me? That thing has been safe in the police station for three years. How could he suddenly find it?”

The secretary was sweating with anxiety. Her voice stuttered a bit. She then glanced toward the hospital bed and approached Elizabeth's ear.

“I'm not sure, Mrs. Elizabeth. But the copy of the letter of apology was indeed sent by Mr. Sebastian. I called him to explain, but he didn't pick up. I suspected that he knew about that year's incident. Before I had time to go to the police station to ask about it, I rushed over here to tell you.”

Elizabeth replied, “What should we do now? He won't sue, right? If this is exposed by him, the company's reputation that has been built up over the past few years will all be over.”
