My Lover's Intern Made Me Infertile

During my tumor surgery, my partner, Dr. Finley Peterson, unexpectedly handed the scalpel to his intern, Dr. Ashley Moore. Trusting her training, he let her take over, but a critical error cost me my fertility and left a permanent scar. When I demanded accountability, Finley defended Ashley, dismissing my grief by claiming I never wanted children anyway. Devastated by his betrayal, I realized our relationship was over and told him he might as well marry his intern instead.

Chapter 2

I could understand my mother’s reaction, as much as it hurt. After all, my relationship with Finley had been a point of contention for years. We’d been together since college, and she was against it from the start. It wasn’t just Finley’s humble beginnings she disapproved of—his rural background didn’t sit well with her ambitions for me—but she also doubted his potential. She couldn’t see a future where he’d amount to much.

But Finley proved her wrong. Through sheer determination, he climbed from being the boy my mother once sneered at to becoming a respected young doctor at the hospital. That transformation changed everything for her. Her disdain had turned to praise, and she’d fully embraced him as the son-in-law she never thought she wanted, practically fawning over him at every opportunity.

I knew, deep down, my mother’s support wasn’t about me. It was about securing her own future through me. As my father had passed away when I was young, it had always been just the two of us. She was far more concerned about whether I would marry well than about my happiness. I was her only daughter, and she saw my marriage as her lifeline.

Because her future depended on it.

After Finley and I graduated, we got engaged, just like any other couple ready to start their lives together. We were preparing to walk down the aisle, but everything began to change when Ashley entered the picture.

Finley insisted their relationship was purely brotherly, but I could see it—it was more than that. He cared for Ashley in ways he never did for me, his fiancée. He began working late, claiming it was for surgeries, but when I checked with his colleagues, I found out the truth: he was spending that time with Ashley.

They stayed in the hospital together until late at night, working side by side—running experiments, analyzing cases, collaborating in ways that slowly shut me out. And the final blow? During my own surgery, the one meant to secure our future, he entrusted Ashley to take the lead.

Yes, surgeries carry risks. And, yes, Ashley’s previous results were flawless—every exam she took, she passed. All the evidence pointed to a freak medical accident.

But I can’t forgive her. No matter how logical it seems, she’s the reason I ended up like this.

Even if the evidence suggests it was an accident, what about the shift in her subjective intentions? What about the physical and emotional damage this has caused me? Whether or not I planned to have children, the scars—both seen and unseen—are real. From the moment I was placed on that operating table and Ashley became the surgeon, everything changed. There was no clarity from then on.

My mother, ever quick to switch sides, turned to Finley, her voice dripping with concern. "Finley, don’t worry. I’ll talk to her. Your relationship—years of love—won’t fall apart over something so trivial."

Finley didn’t even acknowledge her. He simply turned and walked away, not bothering to respond, leaving me standing there with my face still stinging from the slap.

I touched my cheek, feeling a sharp pang that wasn’t just physical. In that moment, I questioned everything—whose mother was she, really? How could she so easily take his side? I stared at her, wondering how someone could be so heartless.

And then, predictably, she turned on me. "Look at what you’ve done," she complained, her voice full of blame, as if I was the one ruining everything.

“Live a good life with Finley and stop being so suspicious all the time. He’s successful now—you should be happy for him!”

“Besides, you're getting married! What are you doing?”

“Everyone has been notified! You said you didn’t want to get married. Where do you expect me to save face now?”

“Can’t you be more filial? You were the one who wanted to be with him! I supported your decision! So why are you acting like this? We can’t let something like this happen during an operation!”

Listening to my mother’s words, I felt a chill run down my spine. I couldn’t hold back any longer. “Mom, do you have any idea that I nearly died on that operating table? And you want me to just move on and live happily with Finley? Have you even considered my feelings?”

Her expression shifted to my words, and she resorted to her usual tactic of using guilt to manipulate me. “How can you say that? Are you just mad at me? Finley is now the department director! Just get married and enjoy life with him! Stop being so picky! Who else would want you if not him? You need to reflect on your behavior!”

With that, she turned and left the room, leaving me to stare at her retreating figure, bitterness welling up inside me.

I picked up my phone and began typing out my experience online. The title read: My Fiancé’s Indulgence in His Intern Caused a Medical Accident That Left Me Infertile.
