Chapter 1

My husband, Harry Forger, who couldn’t have kids, got a college girl pregnant.

He was thrilled and planned to keep it a secret until the baby was born, but I caught him red-handed at the hospital.

I completely lost it and demanded to know how he could betray me after all I had done to land 10-billion-dollar deals for him.

He just handed me divorce papers and said coldly, “You can’t give me a child, but Claire is already pregnant and needs someone to take care of her. I’m going to marry her and give her a real family.

“Sign the papers. If we end things peacefully, you can still have a spot in the company.”

I refused, and that’s when his revenge started.

He had me thrown in prison and froze all my assets.

In the end, he even tied my parents, who both had heart problems, to a drop tower ride.

“Sign the divorce papers, and I’ll let them go. If you don’t sign, then watch them die up there.”

I fell to my knees in tears as I signed the papers and begged him to spare my family.

But the next second, my parents were still hurled from the top of the drop tower ride.

“No!” I screamed.

When I woke up, I was back on the day Harry Forger had handed me the divorce papers.

This time, I slammed both the divorce papers and my resignation letter on his desk.

“As you wish.”

Harry snorted as soon as I said that.

“Anna Wesley, I asked for a divorce, and you hand me a resignation letter? Do you think quitting will make me feel sorry for you and that I’ll back down?”

He picked up a pen, signed his name on the divorce papers, and tossed them in front of me.

“I gave you a chance. You just didn’t appreciate it. Since you want to be a menace, don’t blame me for being ruthless.”

After signing the divorce papers, he didn’t even spare me a glance before walking away.

I watched him leave and suddenly recalled how our company had been established five years ago.

At those endless business dinners, I was the one who drank for him because he was allergic to alcohol. I had ended up being hospitalized with stomach bleeding.

As his wife, I never slacked off for a single day. For three years, I gave everything I had and pushed the company to go public.

At the celebration party, he held me and cried.

“Anna, I was born unable to have children. I can never give you a child, yet you still married me and fought beside me through thick and thin.

“I swear on my life that I will never forsake you!"

In the previous lifetime, that promise had kept me shackled for decades.

I truly believed that because I loved him and had shared his hardships, we’d grow old together.

Even when I found out about his affair and that he had gotten another woman pregnant, I still foolishly thought he would come back to me.

It wasn’t until he threw me in prison and caused my parents’ deaths over that college girl that I finally came to my senses.

Even lovers who met at a young age could see their relationship deteriorate this badly.

True love was never eternal.

I smoothed the creases on my resignation letter. My gaze remained calm.

This time, I wouldn’t repeat my mistakes.

If he behaved heartlessly, I would show no mercy.

I called my parents.

“Mom, Dad, I have a new business venture in Demarcia. Could you go there and help oversee things for me? I’ll join you in two weeks once I’ve sorted out everything here.”

They didn’t ask any questions. After hanging up, I handed the divorce papers to my lawyer.

I then returned to the office to pack my things.

When I opened the door, I found a young woman, who seemed five months pregnant, sitting in my chair.

“Ms. Wesley.” My secretary, Linda, came in after me with tears in her eyes as she called out softly.

“Mr. Forger gave the order this morning. Ms. Yates is to take over your position, but she hasn’t even graduated from college! On top of that–”
