Chapter 1

"Dear husband, let's shower together," I mumbled, noticing his restlessness and desire to go out. I threw myself into his arms, seeking comfort and closeness.

He never could resist me. When we were still dating, every embrace led to a kiss and every kiss sparked a deeper longing for us.

Now, as a married couple, his passion had only intensified, making our moments even more intimate.

At first, I was over the moon, which was why we had a joyous life. Marrying the man I was affectionate with and being loved so deeply made us stay together as a couple.

My loving husband doted on and cherished me the most.

That night, my husband was as sweet as pie after midnight. I was so tired that I fell asleep in the blink of an eye. I have no idea how long I slept, but I woke up feeling parched and uncomfortable.

I once called out to my husband, but he didn't answer. So, I bit the bullet and got up to fetch myself a drink of water.

As I turned on the bedside lamp, I noticed the empty bed; my husband wasn't there.

I had doubts but didn't think deeply about it as a problem. Shaking those thoughts away, I poured water to quench my thirst and called my husband to ask whether she was.

However, it was pretty odd that he didn't answer.

I had no idea what he was up to for being lost out of the blue. No one was home except for me and he wouldn't respond to me or answer my phone calls. In a fit of rage, I sent him a message.

Minutes later, he replied, [Oh, sorry, there's something urgent in the company. I'll handle it in the meantime. I'll be back, just sleep again.]

"Something urgent?" I asked myself, still doubted.

Nevertheless, I sent, [Okay, right. Just come back as early as you can. Don't tire yourself up.]

[I know. Just stay up on time. Rest well, baby. I love you.] he replied.

I didn't ask much that day. I just hung up the phone and went back to sleep.

But later on, he often vanished in the middle of the night, leaving me exhausted from love and unable to wake up.

I noticed his strange behavior occasionally and wanted to ask him about it, but I figured he wouldn't answer, so I kept quiet.

"Tonight, I must find out the reason behind this."

Beckett Campbell, my loving husband, got up from bed and planned to go out. However, as he listened to my words, he curled his lips and made a snap decision. He walked over, scooped me up and carried me into our bedroom.

He carried me to the bathroom and closed the door behind us.

I was so dizzy from his kiss that I was afraid I'd fall asleep again, just like before.

So, I wrapped my arms around his neck and pressed him down for dear life.

He was astonished, as he was always the one to take the initiative when we were together and I would never do such a thing.

Glancing at me, he smirked and said in a somewhat sinister voice, "Baby, are you coming today?"

I dared not answer. Instead, I smiled and picked up a towel. Without a word, I tied his hands and feet to see if he was in a hurry to leave.

Yet, as the minutes ticked by, he remained as cool as a cucumber.

Furious, I stared him straight in the eyes, realizing he wasn't in a hurry. It seemed I had jumped to conclusions.

Was he not going out? Or was he just going for a walk to enjoy the cold breeze?

It might be, but I was worried, thinking he wasn't going out and I lost interest in playing along.

I pushed him away and went to take a shower.

But as soon as I turned around, he grabbed my arm and asked, "Baby, why aren't you continuing? What's the matter?"

I rolled my eyes and snapped, "You take a shower first. Once you're done, I'll pick up where we left off. Mark my words."

"Oh, right. But aren't we going to shower together? It seems like a perfect way to enjoy the night," he teased.

In the past, when we were still head over heels for each other, we used to shower together. But tonight felt different—odd and strange.

He had pushed me to my limit and I was emotionally drained. After I came out, my eyes were red from crying.

He gently laid me on the bed, smiled and kissed me. Then, trying to make things right, he poured me a glass of water.

Indeed, I was parched. As soon as I got the water, I gulped it down.

He then wrapped me in his arms, turned off the light and gently rocked me to sleep like a baby.

Countless nights, he had held me close, comforted me and watched over me until I was sound asleep.

I didn't want to drift off, but my eyelids felt like lead. When drowsiness suddenly hit, I clutched his hand and said, "Husband."

"Hmm, I'm here. I'll always be here. Now, go to sleep," he murmured.
