Chapter 1

While I was vomiting out of pregnancy, I gave Dustin a call.

It was my best friend who answered the phone.

She said on the other end of the phone in a coquettish voice, "Angelica, Dustin was drunk last night and stayed at my place for the whole night. He hasn't woken up yet."

"What's the matter? I'll convey a message for you."

I didn't cry or make a fuss. I took a taxi to the hospital alone and almost died on the operating table.

When Dustin saw my flat belly and the divorce agreement, he cried and asked me why.

The morning sickness this time was more intense than ever before.

I felt very uncomfortable and subconsciously called Dustin.

A familiar voice came from the other end of the phone. "Angelica, Dustin was drunk last night and stayed at my place for the whole night."

"What's the matter? I'll convey a message for you."

Heather's tone was like that of a hostess. I was stunned for a moment and stared at the phone screen for a long time.

After confirming that I had dialed the right number, I found my voice and asked the question in my heart.

"Why is he with you? Isn't he on a business trip?"

Heather chuckled and pretended to be surprised. "Didn't he tell you? I thought he told you that we had a party yesterday, and he drank too much on the spur of the moment. We all drank and couldn't drive, so I let him sleep at my place for the night."

"Angelica, we are best friends. You won't mind it, will you?"

I tightened my grip on my phone, feeling annoyed for some reason.

Heather and I grew in the same residential complex as Dustin.

Ever since we were young, we three had been close.

She was my best friend and Dustin's buddy.

When I was young, I was proud to have such pure feelings.

However, as I grew older, I started to get tired of such a relationship.

The more I thought about it, the more I felt that Heather was the so-called goody-two-shoes.

When I was dating Dustin in the hotel, she suddenly came from a corner of the room and gave us a big "surprise".

In the end, the three of us lay down and chatted under the quilt.

They were chatting and I was listening.

I had reminded Heather more than once that she had no sense of propriety and had made Dustin draw a clear line between him and Heather.

Whenever I said this, she would stand on the moral high ground and accuse me. "If I had feelings for Dustin, we'd have sex long ago. It wouldn't have been your turn."

Dustin also persuaded me. "Heather is always careless. She's just my buddy. Don't think too much about it."

Buddies? They were so close that they could sleep together and share the coffee together?

Before we got married, I asked Dustin to choose between Heather and me.

Ever since then, I had lost contact with Heather. We were like fire and water, and whenever we met, we would exchange sarcastic remarks.

Dustin rarely mentioned her in front of me.

When they met in public, they pretended not to know each other.

After that, he showed that he loved me very much and was considerate to me.

If it weren't for my morning sickness, I wouldn't have known that he lied to me when he said he would come back next week.

I knew without thinking who he had been with in the past few days.

There were some things I couldn't think carefully about.

Once I thought about it carefully, I realized that his gentleness and consideration in the past were all fake.

Coming to my senses, I said to the other end of the phone, "Ask Dustin to go with me to the hospital for a prenatal examination tomorrow."

"Okay, but I can't guarantee that he'll go..."

I couldn't be bothered with her stupid provocation and hung up the phone

I thought to myself, "Not ever again."

I closed my eyes wearily and held back the nausea and bitterness in my throat. Subconsciously, I raised my hand to touch my lower abdomen.

Baby, do you think Daddy will let us down?
