Chapter 3

The TikTok appeared on my phone two days after I left Nolan standing in that parking lot.

I was in the penthouse. Morning light came through the floor-to-ceiling windows. My coffee sat untouched on the dining table. Rachel's files were spread out in front of me. Bank statements. Transfer logs. A paper trail that would bury him.

My phone buzzed. A notification. Jade Simpson posted a new video.

I almost didn't open it. Then I did.

The video started with a close-up of her face. Perfect makeup. Glossed lips. Hair that caught the sunlight just right. She smiled at the camera. That soft, breathless smile. Then the camera panned down. Designer bag on the passenger seat. Manicured nails on a leather steering wheel. The dashboard of a Porsche. Matte black. The same one I'd seen in the parking lot.

Her voice was light. Almost giggly. "When he said he'd give me the world," she said. A black heart emoji floated across the screen. Then the hashtags: #blessed #selfmade.

I watched it twice. The video was thirty seconds long. She'd already posted it an hour ago. It had 12,000 views. The comments were full of heart emojis and fire emojis. *You deserve it queen.* *Living your best life.* *Goals.*

I set the phone down. My hands were steady. Completely steady.

She thought she'd won. She thought posting that video was a victory lap. A message aimed directly at me. Look what I have. Look what he chose.

She had no idea what she'd just done.

I picked up my phone again. I scrolled through my contacts. Found the name I needed. Marcus Chen. Digital marketing consultant. We'd used his firm three years ago when we launched the company's rebrand. He was expensive. He was also very, very good.

He answered on the second ring.

"Everly," he said. His voice was warm. Surprised. "It's been a while. What can I do for you?"

"I need a video boosted," I said.

"Okay. What kind of reach are we talking?"

"Maximum," I said. "I want it everywhere. Corporate networks. Media outlets. Social feeds. I want every investor, every journalist, every executive in Manhattan to see it."

There was a pause. "That's aggressive targeting. What's the content?"

I sent him the link.

Another pause. Longer this time. "Everly," he said carefully. "This is personal."

"Yes," I said.

"You understand what happens when something goes viral in the wrong way. Once it's out there—"

"I know exactly what happens," I said. "That's why I'm calling you."

He was quiet for a moment. Then he said, "I'll need forty-eight hours. And my standard rate."

"You'll have double your rate," I said. "I want it done in twenty-four."

"Done."

I hung up. I set the phone on the table. I picked up my coffee. It was cold now, but I drank it anyway.

Rachel called an hour later.

"I saw the TikTok," she said.

"Good," I said. "Everyone's about to."

"Everly." Her tone shifted. Careful. "What did you do?"

"I gave her what she wanted," I said. "Attention."

Rachel was quiet. Then she laughed. It was a short, sharp sound. "You're terrifying," she said. "I love it."

The video hit a million views by the next morning.

I watched the numbers climb from the penthouse. 1.2 million. 1.5 million. 2 million. The comments section changed. The heart emojis disappeared. New comments flooded in.

*Wait isn't that the car from Crawford Tech's fleet?*

*She's the assistant right? How does an assistant afford a Porsche?*

*Homewrecker vibes.*

*This is the girl from that wedding fire video. She burned the bride's dress and now she's with the groom???*

Someone dug up photos from the wedding. Side-by-side screenshots. Jade holding the sparkler. Jade standing next to Nolan at the motor club. The comments turned vicious.

By that afternoon, the video had 3 million views. A financial blogger I'd never heard of wrote a thread connecting the Porsche lease to Crawford Tech's corporate account. A journalist from TechCrunch reached out to our PR team asking for comment on "alleged misuse of company funds."

The hashtag started trending. #HomewreckerJade.

At 4.7 million views, Jade deleted the video.

But the internet doesn't forget. Screenshots lived everywhere. Reddit threads. Twitter. Instagram stories. Someone even made a TikTok stitch with the caption: *When you're so confident you incriminate yourself.*

My phone buzzed. A text from an unknown number.

*You did this.*

I stared at it. I didn't respond. Another text came through.

*You're ruining my life.*

I set the phone down. I poured fresh coffee. I walked to the window and looked out at the city. The skyline glittered in the afternoon light. Somewhere out there, Jade Simpson was watching her carefully curated world collapse in real time.

I took a sip of coffee. It was hot. Perfect.

I didn't feel guilty. I didn't feel cruel.

I felt ready.

Because this was just the beginning.
