That evening, Archie handed me a necklace. "Come with me to the party tonight, and don't cause any trouble."

The delicate chain held a small stone, so understated it felt almost shabby.

It was from Giselle’s favorite brand.

"Archie, I don't want to go. My leg hasn’t healed yet."

He scoffed, as if he hadn’t heard me at all, and said coldly, "Stop being difficult. Go get changed."

Seeing me still seated, Archie frowned, grabbed my wrist, and yanked me to my feet, ignoring the pain it caused me.

In the car, I huddled in the seat, enduring wave after wave of pain, while he just stared out the window, his face as impassive as ever.

The party was to celebrate Giselle’s successful art exhibit.

Inside the grand room, she wore an elegant Victorian-style dress, the center of everyone’s attention.

Archie nudged me, speaking icily, "Make sure you apologize to Giselle later. Don’t upset her again."

Apologize? Had I not already humbled myself enough?

I glanced at the simple necklace around my neck, then at Giselle, who wore an extravagant necklace from the same brand, sparkling in the lights.

Just then, she walked over to us, gently linking arms with Archie, smiling, "Thank you for the necklace. I really love it."

Her gaze flickered to my trembling legs, and she paused, covering her mouth as she spoke softly, "Oh dear, what happened to your leg? A girl's health is important, Archie, you shouldn't be so careless."

Archie patted her hand, his eyes filled with tenderness, "Giselle, you're so thoughtful, always caring about others."

I couldn’t hold back any longer and sneered, "Is it amusing for you both to flirt right in front of me?"

Giselle’s brow furrowed slightly, and she looked at Archie with a hint of helplessness.

Archie's face darkened immediately, and he muttered, "Madeline, do you even understand boundaries? Giselle’s been nothing but kind, and you? You're always overthinking everything. Giselle isn't as calculating as you."

Before I could respond, he shoved me hard.

With my legs weakened by pain, I lost my balance and fell to the floor.

Curious eyes turned toward me, whispers buzzed through the air.

Archie didn’t pause even for a moment. Instead, he guided Giselle away, softly reassuring her, "Ignore her, let's go."
