My Husband Killed My Dad
Chapter 3
After packing all the gifts, I went to the study to print out the divorce agreement, signed it and put it on the coffee table in the living room.
The cemetery had been chosen long ago, right next to my mother and I was ready to take my father’s ashes to bury him.
When I was holding an urn in my hand and dragging a suitcase, I was about to open the door and leave when I was stopped by Darren’s angry voice behind me. “Penelope, stop right there! Are you going to run away after this?”
He rushed over and blocked my way.
“Explain to me what’s going on. When did you become so jealous? Have you learned to join your father to take revenge on Addison?”
He put a video of Addison being touched on the buttocks by an old man in front of me.
The man in the video had his face sideways and his face was not clear because of the distance, but his figure was very similar to my father.
It was obvious that Darren had put the blame on my father without checking for his childhood sweetheart.
It was ridiculous. My dad trusted him so much and always treated him like his own son and apprentice. He ended up like this with his sincerity. I felt really bad for him.
I suddenly knocked his phone away and glared at him fiercely. “You have to explain to me why you lied to my dad to work for your little childhood sweetheart at the construction site?”
Darren seemed to have his true face exposed and his angry and red face instantly showed a bit of embarrassment.
“Penelope, I just told my dad that there is an important project recently and asked him to help keep an eye on it. As a supervisor, to control the quality, so he showed up at the construction site.”
Darren was still making excuses.
Because I was busy with the villa design recently, Darren was not satisfied with the design of the master bedroom and the courtyard and changed it back and forth for several versions. Now I thought about it and realize that the project was for his little childhood sweetheart.
I didn’t have time to contact my dad for a while. I just remembered that it was my dad’s birthday the day before yesterday. I wanted to go home to give him a surprise, but I found that he was not at home, so I called him.
It was very noisy on the other end of the phone. It was the sound of construction, but my father’s joyful voice was still clear. “Penelope, Dad is here at your and Darren’s new villa. Dad will decorate it for you as soon as possible, I guarantee you will be satisfied!”
I knew as soon as I heard it that Darren had lied to Dad that it was a villa for his childhood sweetheart.
I couldn’t bear to let Dad worry about me and Darren and I didn’t want him to know that our relationship had broken down. After all, it was me who insisted on choosing Darren. If Dad knew now, he would only blame himself for not stopping me.
So I prepared to carry the cake to celebrate his birthday and persuade him to go back in person, but who knew that when I arrived at the scene, I saw a group of people surrounding him.
I pushed through the crowd and the cake was squeezed to the ground. Dad lay straight on the ground, his hands were shaking badly, but I still did CPR and desperately called for people to call 911. But in the end, I couldn’t save him.
My father was originally just a supervisor, but Darren urged him to make progress every day. Dad thought that he could do more and did it himself, forgetting that he couldn’t be overworked. He was still moving bricks in the 39-degree high temperature and he died suddenly.
