My Husband Chose His Fake Pregnant Mistress Over Me

Vivian still plates Per Se takeout with the same quiet care she has never outgrown. Then the elevator opens, and Kendrick steps in with a stranger pressed against him—Stormi, all curves and wounded, triumphant eyes, her hand cradled over her stomach. She is carrying his child, he announces, and she moves in tonight. The serving spoon turns heavy in Vivian's grip as her carefully arranged world tilts. Stormi's fragility looks rehearsed, her victory too deliberate. In a marriage built on wealth and silence, Vivian must decide whether to surrender her place or expose the lie beneath Stormi's perfect performance.

Chapter 1

I was plating the Per Se takeout with the same careful arrangement I always used—a small vanity I'd never outgrown—when I heard the elevator doors slide open. The sound of Kendrick's footsteps was different tonight, heavier somehow, accompanied by another set I didn't recognize. I straightened, wiping my hands on a dish towel, and turned toward the entryway.

Kendrick stood there, his arm wrapped possessively around a woman I'd never seen before. She was beautiful in the calculated way of someone who knew exactly how to weaponize her appearance—all curves and wide, wounded eyes that somehow managed to look both fragile and triumphant at once. Her hand rested on her stomach in a gesture so deliberate it made my skin crawl.

"Vivian," Kendrick said, his voice carrying that new authority I'd been hearing more often lately. "This is Stormi. She's carrying my child. She'll be moving in tonight."

The serving spoon felt suddenly heavy in my hand. I set it down with deliberate care on the marble countertop, the soft clink of metal against stone the only sound in the silence that followed his announcement. Stormi's eyes tracked the movement, a flicker of something like satisfaction crossing her features before she composed herself into a mask of gentle distress.

"I'm so sorry for the timing," she whispered, though her tone suggested she was anything but sorry. "The doctor says I need to be somewhere stable for the pregnancy. I hope you understand."

I looked at her—really looked—and saw the predator beneath the performance. But I said nothing. Not in front of her. Not yet.

"Kendrick," I said quietly, "I'd like to speak with you privately."

He hesitated, his arm tightening around Stormi's waist. "Anything you need to say—"

"Privately," I repeated, my voice carrying the same quiet finality my father's did when he ended board meetings.

Kendrick nodded curtly and guided Stormi toward the living room. "Make yourself at home," he told her, as if she needed the invitation. "I'll just be a moment."

In our bedroom—still legally ours, though I suspected that wouldn't last—I turned to face him. The man I'd loved enough to disappear for. The man whose entire career I'd built in the shadows while he believed himself a self-made king.

"Is this really what you're choosing?" I asked. Four years of sacrifice, of quiet love, of burning my own identity to fuel his ambitions—all compressed into those five words.

Kendrick's face hardened. "Don't start with the dramatics, Vivian. You should be grateful I'm not simply throwing you out on the street. Stormi needs support right now. She's giving me what you couldn't—a child."

The cruelty of it stole my breath. Not the affair—I'd suspected that for months—but the casual weaponization of my deepest wound. The choice I'd made to focus on his career, on us, on building something together before starting a family.

"This is my home," I said simply. "I'm not leaving."

His laugh was sharp and unfamiliar. "Your home? Check the deed, Vivian. It's in my name. You have twenty-four hours to clear out of the master bedroom. Stormi needs the space, and the stress isn't good for the baby."

The next morning, I watched Stormi's systematic occupation of what had been mine. She wore my silk robe to breakfast, her fingers trailing over the bookshelves as she rearranged my carefully organized volumes to make room for her own. Delivery men arrived with her belongings—designer clothes, expensive art, a vanity mirror that cost more than most people's rent.

"This is so much better," she sighed, catching my reflection in the hallway mirror. "Don't you think? It needed a woman's touch."

When Kendrick was present, she was all soft vulnerability, one hand perpetually cradling her still-flat stomach. But when we were alone, her eyes met mine with the cold satisfaction of a cat watching a mouse it had already cornered.

Three days later, she delivered the final blow. "Kendrick, darling," she said, her voice trembling with manufactured distress, "all these... reminders. The photos, the letters. They're stressing me out. The doctor says stress isn't good for the baby. Could we maybe...?"

Kendrick didn't hesitate. He began pulling my keepsakes from the shelves—photo albums from our honeymoon in Santorini, the love letters we'd exchanged during his early business trips, the small handmade gifts from our first anniversary. And then, worst of all, the rattan rocking chair we'd spent an entire weekend building together, laughing at our terrible craftsmanship, bonding over our shared incompetence.

I followed him to the courtyard, my heart pounding as he created a pile of my memories. The match struck with a harsh rasp, and then the flames were licking at the edges of our past.

I couldn't let him burn the chair. That chair was the last piece of the man I'd fallen in love with—the one who had patience for mistakes, who had laughed with me instead of laughed at me. I rushed forward, barefoot on the cold concrete, reaching for it through the growing inferno.

The smoke hit me like a physical blow. I gasped, my lungs rejecting the acrid air, and felt my knees buckle. The last thing I saw before darkness claimed me was Kendrick's face, watching impassively as I collapsed onto the pavement.
