Chapter 5

The next morning,Wendy arrived at the postpartum care center carrying several shopping bags to visit me.

“Sandra!I’ve missed you and my godson so much these past few days!”Wendy said as she took off her coat, revealing a tight, sexy camisole dress.

Hickeys were clearly visible on her collarbone and jaw.

But the most eye-catching thing was the sapphire necklace around her neck.

I stared at the necklace for a long moment,my expression darkening.“Wendy, that necklace on your neck looks really familiar…I think it’s the one I saw at the auction last year.”

Wendy touched the necklace around her neck and said with a sarcastic smirk,“People say pregnancy makes you dumb for three years. Are you sure you’re not remembering it wrong? This necklace was a gift from my darling husband.”

No.I was certain this was the very necklace Zack had personally bid for.Its design was one of a kind, with significant collectible value.

I had loved it so much at the time that I’d deliberately paid an exorbitant price to win the bid.

“You’re not getting a divorce with your husband anymore? How come he’s still giving you such an expensive gift?”I asked,my voice calm but cold.I had once felt sorry for my best friend’s unhappy marriage and had treated her with great care, never expecting I’d invited a wolf into my home.

Wendy waved it off nonchalantly.“Just coax men a little and they’ll behave...Oh anyway,Sandra, have you received any strange text messages lately?”

I looked puzzled.“No.Why do you ask?”

“Oh,nothing…I just saw some news recently,”Wendy said casually.“It’s about men who can’t hold back while their wives are in postpartum confinement and go looking for other women.Mr.Orgeta is young, rich and handsome, you’d better keep a close eye on him.”

Her tone was calm on the surface, but the look in her eyes was filled with provocation.

I stared hard at Wendy, whose obviously altered face was smug with the satisfaction of someone who believed she’d gained the upper hand.

I wondered,if someone took a knife to that face, would any man still like it?

“Oh really?Maybe that’s true for other men,but I trust Zack,”I said with a slight curve of my lips.“He loves me so much. He’d never do something like that.”

Wendy let out a soft laugh and pulled two plastic bottles from her bag, handing them to me.“I had a meeting at the headquarters the past couple of days and brought you something good for postpartum recovery. They’re imported.I even translated the labels for you.”

“This one is oral,it’ll brighten up your dull complexion…And this one’s a topical cream for your private parts. It’ll help you regain that tight, delicate feel and make your man absolutely addicted to you.”Wendy’s voice was dripping with enthusiasm.

“I’ve tried both myself. They really work. You have to use them regularly.Your husband always needs to stay hooked. You know how men are. They’re always chasing something fresh. Now that you’ve had a baby, you can’t afford to be sloppy like when you were pregnant.”

I gave a cold smile.“Don’t worry.I won’t waste your kind intentions.”

“We’re besties, after all,”Wendy said, her voice sweet but hollow.“If your marriage is happy,I’m happy for you too.”

But she was celebrating too soon. The real drama was just beginning.

Using fatigue as an excuse,I politely showed her the door.

After Wendy left,I immediately called my assistant to come to the postpartum care center.

I handed over the oral and topical medications and instructed her to send them straight to a testing lab.

That night,I received another video from that same unknown number.

This time, the setting had changed. It was the rooftop and stairwell of the postpartum center.

The video once again showed only Zack’s face.

The infatuated, intoxicated look he gave the camera stood in stark contrast to the venomous, hateful things he had said about me before.

“Sandra, that old hag,has been fawning over me since our school days.If it weren’t for her family’s money,I wouldn’t even have looked at her!Every single second I spend with her disgusts me to no end! There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for you! You’re the only one I’ll ever love in this lifetime!”

***

I silently synced the video to the cloud, then turned off my phone and lay back down on the bed.

I didn’t shed a single tear. The ones who should be crying were those two despicable traitors.
