Chapter 10

Just then,Wendy arrived. She walked over and naturally took the baby from Zack’s arms.“Sandra,congratulations.You’ll be out of confinement tomorrow.Once you're back home, don’t forget to keep up with the internal tonics and external treatments.Your figure will be back to its pre-pregnancy state in no time.”

“Aren’t those supplements really expensive? If you ask me,once a woman’s had a baby, there’s no need to mess around like that.As long as there’s enough milk to feed the kid, that’s enough,”Yohana said impatiently.

Wendy smiled and said,“I gave them to Sandra. It didn’t cost Mr.Orgeta a cent.”

“Now that’s what I call capable and generous. Not like some people who do nothing at home and just burn through money,”Yohana said with a veiled jab.

Yohana stood by the window, conveniently blocking the view between me and Zack.

Even with so many people in the room,Zack actually dared to sneak a pinch on Wendy’s butt.

Yohana stood there scolding me for ages and Zack didn’t utter a single word in my defense.

Even though I knew my husband was fooling around with my best friend right in the postpartum care center,I swallowed all my grievances and chose not to alert them.

I hadn’t even finished my postpartum confinement and the three of them were already parading around like a happy little family.Did they really think I was a pushover, easy to bully?

“Zack, listen to what your mom is saying!”I couldn’t help but yell.

Only then did Zack react. He gave Yohana a sideways glance and said,“Mom,Sandra has already gone through so much giving birth. How can you still say something like that?”

“Gone through so much? What’s so hard about it for a hen that can’t even lay eggs?”Yohana said arrogantly, hands on her hips.

I looked at the bejeweled older woman in front of me.That top-grade strand of white pearls around her neck had been a gift from my own mother when the two families were discussing marriage.

"I gave the Orgeta Family a healthy, chubby son,how does that make me a hen that can't lay eggs?Watch your mouth!"I raised my voice, showing no courtesy to the mother and son.

"Sandra, don’t be angry. My mom doesn’t know any better and just talks nonsense,"Zack hurriedly stepped forward to ease the situation.

Wendy also chimed in,trying to help."Exactly, she just speaks bluntly.Don’t take it to heart, she’s an elder."

Bluntly?

Since marrying into the Orgeta Family, when had Yohana ever treated me kindly?I had served her wholeheartedly, treating my mother-in-law like my own, only to be repaid with a cruel insult, calling me“a hen that can’t lay eggs.”

"Give me back the necklace,"I stepped forward and yanked the pearl necklace off Yohana’s neck.

Yohana was so furious that she could barely breathe.“That’s mine! What right do you have?”

“Because that pearl necklace was a gift from my mother!”I shouted back.

Realizing that I was genuinely enraged,Zack hurriedly dragged Yohana out of the room.

Wendy put the child down and couldn’t help but scold me.“Sandra, she is still an elder. How could you disrespect her like that and snatch her necklace? If it weren’t for Mr.Orgeta all these years, the company wouldn’t be doing so well and you wouldn’t be living like a rich lady.”

“You really think all of this is Zack’s doing?”I shot Wendy a cold glance,my expression as dark as water.
