My Former Mate Begged Me to Heal Him

8.9 / 10.0
The moment the clock strikes 9:47, Ivy Larson's world collapses as Alpha Cole Thomas rejects her before the entire Ashvale Pack, leaving her mark half-bitten and her heart in ruins. The door slams shut on their future—until Cole returns, shattered and desperate, pleading for the healing only she can give. Now Ivy faces an impossible choice: let the past stay buried, or risk everything on a forbidden second chance that could destroy them both.

My Former Mate Begged Me to Heal Him Chapter 1

The bond breaks at 9:47 p.m., while the last vial is still warm in my hand.

Cole stands across the ceremonial stone from me. Torchlight burns in his eyes. The whole Ashvale Pack circles us, two hundred wolves pressed shoulder to shoulder. My mate mark is still wet on my neck. It is half-bitten and half-set, just like the ritual says. All he has to do is finish it.

Instead, he lifts his chin.

"I, Cole Thomas, Alpha of Ashvale, reject you, Ivy Larson, as my mate."

The mark goes cold first. Then it goes empty, like a door closing on an empty room. Pain splits my sternum and folds me onto my knees.

My wolf shrieks inside my skull.

Then I smell her. Jasmine, and under it something chemical, sharp as bleach. Victoria Hill, the Silvercrest Alpha's daughter. Her scent is all over him. On his collar. Under his jaw. Layered thick, like weeks of it.

I hold up the vial. My hand shakes, but my voice doesn't.

"This is the counter-agent. Thirty-seven nights. It's keyed to your wolf and no one else's."

Cole laughs. Short and cold. He rips the vial out of my fingers.

"Omega superstition," he says, loud enough for the back row.

He throws it down.

The glass explodes on the ancient stone. Silver liquid hisses across the rock and soaks into the cracks. Thirty-seven nights of grinding herbs until my fingers bled. Gone in one second.

Victoria steps out of the crowd in a white dress. She slides her hand into his like she has done it a hundred times. Maybe she has.

Luna Margaret, Cole's mother, gives one small nod from the front row. Approval. Beside her, his cousin Luke, Ashvale's Beta, smirks at me like I'm a stain on the floor.

And then I hear it. Through the last torn thread of the bond, one thin sound.

Cole's wolf whimpers.

Cole hears it too. His jaw locks. His shoulders go stiff. He shoves the sound down so hard I feel the thread snap completely.

Inside me, my wolf goes silent. Not calm. Stunned. Like something hit her over the head.

"Stay down, Ivy," Cole says. The Alpha tone rolls over me, heavy as wet sand. "It's over."

My knees want to obey. My spine doesn't.

I push one palm against the stone. Then the other. I stand up.

A murmur goes through the circle. Cole's eyes narrow, like a dog that won't sit.

I don't look at him. I raise my right hand and let my claws slide out. Then I dig them into my own neck, right where his teeth went in.

I tear the mark out.

It burns. Blood runs warm down my collarbone and into my dress. Somebody in the crowd gasps. A woman near the torches turns her face away. Even Luke stops smiling.

I won't let it finish setting. I won't carry one piece of him.

I crouch and pick up two shards of the vial. They're sharp and slick with the elixir and my own blood. I walk to Cole. I set them down at his feet, one, then the other. Neat. On purpose.

Then I look up at him.

"When your wolf goes silent," I say, "remember this sound."

I turn around.

The pack parts for me. Nobody says my name. Nobody follows. I walk past Margaret, past Luke, past every wolf I ever stitched up or gave fever tea to. I walk past the last torch and into the dark trees, into rogue land.

He took my mate. My pack. My place.

But the formula is still in my head, every gram, every step. And my healer blood is still wet on my fingers.

He can't smash those.

---

Three months later, I'm living in a hunter's shack with half a roof. It rains through the corner every night.

I'm awake at 3 a.m., like always, when she comes back.

*Ivy.*

My wolf. Her voice is faint and rough, like she has been screaming somewhere I couldn't hear.

*Get up,* she growls. *We are not omega. We are not finished.*

I sit up in the dark and cry for the first time since the ceremony. Just once. Then I wipe my face and light the lamp.

I remember Victoria's serum. That bleach smell on Cole's skin. I know what's in it. I could smell it eating his wolf even then.

So I write it down. The base compound. The way it fakes strength. How fast it kills the wolf spirit, year by year. I borrow every clinical text I can steal or trade for and check every line.

It takes six weeks. When I'm done, the packet is forty pages thick.

I mail it to the Lycan Council's research division under a fake healer's registry number. No name. No return address.

I drop it in the box and feel my wolf pace inside me, pleased.

It's the first vial of a different kind of war.

---

Seven years after the rejection, I reach the iron gate of the Ironveil Lycan Court.

My boots are worn through. My bag is heavy with herbs and notebooks. I have a name now in some packs, whispered. The rogue healer who can fix what others can't. But I have no pack. No home.

The wind shifts.

Cedar. Winter storm. Clean and cold, like snow before it falls.

My wolf jerks awake so hard I stumble.

A man stops on the path ahead of me. Tall, dark-haired, dressed for border patrol. His eyes flash silver for one second. I know who he is from the aura alone. Logan Castillo. The Lycan Prince.

He breathes in. I watch it hit him. His whole body goes still.

He knows. I know. The pull between us is so strong my scarred neck aches.

I brace. I wait for him to grab me. To say the word. To claim me before I can think.

He doesn't move.

"You look like you've walked a long way," he says quietly. "Do you need shelter?"

That's all. A question. Mine to answer.

I look at him for a long time. My wolf begs. I make her wait.

"Yes," I say.

He steps aside. He doesn't reach for my bag.

I walk through the gate on my own feet, my forty pages of proof riding against my spine.
