Chapter 1

When Jasper handed me the divorce papers, I was completely caught off guard.

“Elara, I really love Luna. When I met her, my life suddenly became vibrant,” Jasper said, looking at me with that lovestruck gaze, like a teenager experiencing first love.

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. “Jasper, don’t you think it’s a bit inappropriate to say this to me?” I asked, trying to mask my disbelief with a forced smile.

“I know I’ve let you down, but true love is pure, Elara,” he responded, with an air of sincerity that almost made me laugh.

I turned away, picked up the divorce agreement, and skimmed through it. “So, you’re leaving with nothing and not fighting for custody of our daughter?”

“Is that alright?” Jasper asked, looking anxious.

Wait, seriously? Is this actually happening?

No more dealing with his drunken nights, no more awkward family gatherings during the holidays, and I still get to have our daughter with me. Plus, all the money, shares, and real estate? They’re mine! He’s really leaving without taking a single penny.

I had to hold back a smile as I asked, “Doesn’t your true love mind that you have no money?”

“Luna isn’t materialistic. She loves me for who I am,” Jasper replied confidently, standing tall.

I mean, sure, Jasper does have that mature, handsome charm, like the debonair uncle straight out of a romance novel. But still...

I forced myself to wait a few seconds before picking up the pen and signing my name on the divorce agreement. “Well, this way, it won’t look like I’m just after the money.”

“You’re signing already?” Jasper looked at me, a mix of surprise, shock, and a hint of fear in his eyes.

“You’ve already signed too. Let’s go to the courthouse while it’s still open,” I said, my heart racing, praying nothing would derail this sudden windfall.

Thankfully, Jasper signed without hesitation.

Two hours later, I held the freshly stamped divorce certificate in my hand, feeling like I was ready to dance right there.

“Elara, even though we’re divorced, I’ll still be here if you need anything,” Jasper said with a hint of emotion. “And please, tell our daughter that I love her.”

With that, Jasper walked away without looking back.

I got into my car, a smile slowly spreading across my face. Thank goodness there’s no waiting period for divorces here.

Just as I was about to start the car, my phone rang. It was my best friend, Victoria.

“Elara, did you really divorce Jasper?”

“How did you find out?” I asked, surprised.

“Jasper posted about it on Instagram,” Victoria paused. “Are you okay?”

I couldn’t help it—I burst out laughing. “Hahahaha.”

Victoria was startled. “Elara, are you sure you’re okay? I’m coming over right now.”

I could hear her rushing to pack her things on the other end of the line. “Victoria, really, I’m fine. Jasper actually left everything behind—for another woman!”

“Honestly, I couldn’t be happier. I got rid of a huge burden! Now, all the money belongs to my daughter. There’s no way the mistress or any future illegitimate kid is going to get a dime! This is such a win! I’m thinking of buying a lottery ticket—I might just win $5 million today.”

Victoria sighed, “Well, I guess I was worried for nothing.”

Jasper and I met through a blind date. Our families were on the same social level. I’m an only child from a wealthy family and a senior executive at a publicly listed company. His family saw me as his golden ticket and pushed hard for our marriage.

After we got married, I helped Jasper stabilize his company, expand his business, and even managed his family’s internal squabbles. He became really successful, making tons of money along the way.

I thought after all these years, even if he and his family had their motives in the beginning, there’d be some real feelings between us by now. That is, until his mistress, Luna, sent me their intimate videos and bragged about how she was going to take away all my wealth.

I’d be lying if I said I didn’t hate her. You can try to steal my man, and maybe I’ll let it slide. But if you try to touch my money, I’ll make sure you regret it.

I was all set to transfer my assets, ready for the fight, but who knew? Jasper turned out to be some kind of pure-hearted lover and actually chose to leave with nothing!
