My boss was ecstatic when he learned that the client's representative was an old college classmate of mine.

He slammed his hand on his desk and put me in charge of the negotiations.

"Yana Lennox, this deal is a sure thing now."

I replied weakly, "I wouldn't be so sure."

My boss gave me a questioning look. "You've offended him before?"

I swallowed hard and said, "We dated in college. And I dumped him."

My boss's face immediately darkened, and he snapped the pen he was holding in two.

'Just my luck. We broke up two years ago, and I still manage to run into him. And to top it all off, he's the client.'

My boss went to discuss the matter with his own superior, and in the end, they decided I would still come to the meeting.

"President Yates, aren't you afraid he'll hold a grudge against me and tank the deal?"

My boss shot me a sideways glance. "Don't jinx it. Can't you try looking on the bright side? If all else fails—"

He looked me up and down with a piercing gaze, and I immediately had a bad feeling.

"Get back together with him, and let him be the one to dump you this time!"
