Chapter 1

My college roommate, Miranda White, adored romance novels. She would always fantasize about being the protagonist of such novels.

She dreamed of being loved by a rich, handsome man and eventually marrying rich.

Although her allowance only came to a hundred a month, she insisted on buying a wool coat worth a thousand.

She would put on the most dazzling makeup and put on a fake persona.

She vowed to make every man around her love her.

"I will only marry a rich hottie. My Prince Charming will find me," she proudly proclaimed.

I was kind enough to caution her, warning her to protect herself and work hard to improve her life.

Instead, she thought I was just jealous.

"You're the kind of person who wants everyone else to be as miserable as you, aren't you? What rotten luck to have you as a roommate."

Fine, then! It wasn't as if I'd be the one who'd become bankrupt by her online boyfriend!

Miranda, the Delusional Roommate

My roommate, Miranda White, loved romance novels.

She always fantasized about becoming the rich and beautiful protagonists of her novels, dreaming of the day a rich and handsome young man would fall in love with her at first sight.

Her goal in life was to find a rich, handsome, and devoted boyfriend who could launch her to the top of society.

As such, she did all she could to present herself as a rich beauty.

She would dress herself in luxury clothing and use the best skincare products she could get her hands on. All counterfeit, of course.

Then, she studied how to better attract guys.

She would burn the midnight oil reading articles titled "100 Ways to Make Boys Fall in Love with You."

Every aspect of her was practised, from the way she spoke to the clothes she wore.

The number of guys who desired her on campus kept growing, but she was never satisfied.

She only wanted someone rich and handsome.

To attract better men, she began clubbing, staying out all night at bars. She even started dating a guy online.

That was because in her latest novel, the protagonist found her one true love through online dating.

She would drift through the room, boasting about it. "My boyfriend is so very rich and handsome. Hard work truly pays off."

She would even share the loving voice messages from her boyfriend in the group chat.

"Babe, I really love you. Even though we've never met, I know I can't live without you.

"You'll surely feel soft and sweet in my arms when I hug you. I can't wait to see you, babe. All my money is yours.

"I bought you a gift, babe. Remember to collect it."

...

My other two roommates were green with envy.

"Miranda, he must really like you. He's even buying you gifts!"

"All his money is yours? It must be true love. Everyone's right. It's best to date the rich."

"It's a fairy tale come to life. Such is the love between princes and princesses."

...

I was rendered speechless at their envy.

Did they not find it all far too fantastical? Pretty words cost nothing. How was this considered true love?

Besides, Miranda had never met this guy in real life. How was she certain this boyfriend of hers was a prince and not a scammer?

Most online relationships ended in disaster.

It was with that in mind that I decided to warn Miranda to be cautious. "It's best to be careful with strangers. There are a lot of scammers nowadays. You must stay safe."

To my surprise, she did not appreciate my advice and even called me jealous.

Fine.

It was clear that I was not needed here.

Regardless, her reaction told me that our principles in life were vastly different. Thus, I decided to ignore Miranda.

I did not expect her to scratch my car.

I was furious.

However, Miranda merely blushed with timid embarrassment.

"Listen, I read a novel last night where the protagonist found true love after crashing into the man's Mercedes. In the end, they got married.

"After I read that, I saw a sports car in the campus parking lot. I didn't crash into it, but scratching it up is the same, right?

"It's clearly a divine sign for me to find my Prince Charming as soon as possible."

I knew she was somewhat insane, but I didn't think she'd be that bad!

That car was brand new, and it was a gift from my mother!

My parents reminded me to lie low and get along with my peers before I started my first day in college.

That was why everyone thought I came from a working-class family.

My parents kept telling me I absolutely had to keep a low profile, never showing off any signs that I could be rich. Otherwise, they would cut me off, forcing me to work part-time.

Hence, there was no way I could reveal that the sports car was mine.

Still, I could not just endure such injustice.

"Miranda, are you crazy? You scratched up a very expensive car. Can you even afford to pay the compensation if the owner comes after you?" I demanded angrily.

"I just had to do it. Besides, what's it to you? I'm only doing this so I can get to know more rich men. All of this is so my Prince Charming could find me soon," she replied, her words nearly causing my mind to explode due to sheer absurdity.

I was trembling with fury.

Honestly, I couldn't understand how a person like her had actually passed the SAT.
