Chapter 2

I had a slight cold, and I could be discharged from the hospital early the next morning.

Upon entering the living room, I saw Easton wearing an apron and cooking pumpkin soup in the kitchen.

When he turned around and saw me, he was stunned for a moment. Then he said, "I'm sorry about yesterday."

I pursed my lips silently, staring at the boiling pumpkin soup in the pot.

Pumpkin soup was never my thing.

I instantly understood whom he was cooking for.

I looked away and asked, "I want to talk to you about something. Are you free tonight?"

Easton frowned slightly as if thinking about something. Then he replied after a while, "Yes."

I nodded and turned to go upstairs.

The night came.

I sat in the living room from seven p.m. until half past midnight, but Easton wasn't seen.

Just as I was about to go back to my room to go to bed, I heard a noise coming from the entrance.

Easton looked tired. He must have rushed back.

He said, "I'm sorry to have kept you waiting for so long."

I looked up at him and said, 'It's good to have you back.'

I handed him the divorce agreement on the table as I spoke.

Easton took it over and frowned. From his face, I couldn't tell what he was thinking about.

"These days, I have been neglecting you, but I hope you can reconsider the divorce matter more carefully." His voice sounded magnetic.

"Look, he talks to me about our divorce in such a casual tone."

It was like how he usually got business done with his clients.

I suddenly felt a little dizzy. Smiling bitterly, I said, "Easton, you have always been ambiguous to me, making me feel exhausted."

Easton silently put the divorce agreement back on the table. Looking somewhat awkward, he opened his mouth several times. In the end, he didn't say a word.

I sat on the sofa in frustration, staring at him attentively.

It was so quiet in the living room.

It was Easton who broke the silence first.

"Giana, I can fulfill anything you want,' he said seriously and solemnly, "except for my love."

Hearing what he said, I was in so much pain.

"So what does everything between him and me mean?"

I was silent for a moment before saying lightly, "I want to work at your company."

Alana was at his company.

I couldn't be the only one who was sad.

"Okay." Easton agreed quickly. Then he looked at his watch and said, "I have something to do. I'll leave first."

Watching his departing figure, I suddenly felt sad.

I had been in love with him for six years.

It was at midnight.

Suddenly, I had a high fever. My whole body was burning.

In the heat, I felt someone touching my forehead with a slightly cool hand.

I half-opened my eyes and vaguely saw a white corner of clothing, murmuring, "Easton?"

The hand on my forehead trembled slightly.

"It's me."

I instantly became half awake, struggling to open my eyelids. Then I saw Easton's pale face.

"You have a fever," Easton said gently with great concern.

He got up. I reached out and grabbed his wrist.

I asked, "Where are you going?"

Holding mine, with a broad hand, he patiently comforted me and said, "I'm going to call the family doctor."

All the grievances that had been building up in my heart burst out at this moment. As tears rolled out of my eyes, I said, "Why do you always do this?

"One moment you're aloof and distant like a stranger. The next moment, you're caring for me so much.

"I beg you. If you don't like me, please don't give me any hope."

Easton helplessly wiped away the tears from the corners of my eyes. Then he said with distress, "I'm sorry. It's all my fault."

"I like you. I like you more than anyone else in the world."

I cried until I was tired. My head started to ache. Soon I fell asleep again.

I feel much better when I wake up the next morning.

Looking around the empty room, I felt like what had happened last night was just a dream.

My throat was dry. I turned around to get some water to drink.

There was a bowl of hot mushroom soup on the table.

"Mushroom soup?"

The mushroom soup was my favorite.

I felt a little confused.

It turned out that what had happened last night was not a dream.
