My Cousin Married My Fiancé
My Cousin Married My Fiancé Chapter 1
My cousin, Claire Sullivan, had always been a very "helpful" person. She's always ready to lend a hand, even if it means helping herself.
She married the billionaire fiancé I had been with. She told me, “The richer the man, the crazier he gets. I’m doing you a favour by taking this burden off your shoulders.” She was really selfless, sacrificing herself for me. At least, it was what I taught.
Then, she sold one of her husband's unused villas, telling everyone it was because I needed a place to hide my boy toy. She even maxed out her husband's secondary credit card, saying it was to help me pay off my gambling debts.
Then, when she got pregnant and had an affair with her husband's brother that sadly led to a miscarriage, she blamed me.
She told everyone I was responsible. She said that I was the one sleeping around with a bunch of male models and pushed her when she tried to stop me, causing her to lose the baby.
In the end, I was sent to Spain by her husband to “atone” for my sins. There, I was brutally tortured, violated and killed by her lover.
But then, miraculously, I opened my eyes again and found myself back on the day Claire had her affair and miscarriage.
——
Whenever Claire went on a date with her lover, she told her husband, Edward Thompson, that I was asking for her help. She would come up with all sorts of excuses. Whether I needed emotional support after being caught as "the other woman," or getting in trouble with debt collectors, or even when I went to the hospital for a private procedure, she would lie and say she was by my side.
If it had not been for Edward, I would never have known how much of a tangle she'd got me into. He confronted me about my past life and was pretty angry, saying I'd done things I never did.
Now, I had been here again.
Edward’s angry voice was blasting through the phone once again. I smile bitterly.
Edward’s voice blasts in my ear, “Sophie Wiliams! It is so late. Why do you keep making Claire stay at your place? I have had enough of this! Claire is your cousin, not your mother. She is pregnant, married and doesn't need your endless problems dragging her down! Can you have some shame and stop bothering her every day for no reason? Why are you so determined to ruin our lives? Just because I left you doesn’t mean you can destroy my family out of spite! Claire is a very innocent person. If you keep using her like this, don't blame me for being rude! Hurry up and send her back home!"
Edward seemed to have reached his limit, bombarding me with his anger. I let his yelling wash over me and I felt oddly calm. Actually, when I was dating Edward before, I thought he was the sweetest, gentlest gentleman.
But every time he was nice to me, Claire would use horror cases of husbands who murdered their wives to warn me. She said men are inherently hypocritical; the more perfect a man seems, the more dangerous he is.
While I believed her and distanced myself from him, she was the one who swooped in, comforting him and spinning lie after lie about me. With Claire's “help”, I drifted further away from Edward.
If I had not accidentally seen Claire's sexy lingerie at Edward's house, I would still be grateful for having such a smart cousin to help me see through the scumbag. Not long after, she married Edward. Since then, I have kept my distance from the two of them.
But Edward did not think so. I often received his furious questions. Aside from work, my life was spent explaining Claire's whereabouts. But I didn't know what Claire was doing. I could only follow the reasons she had given me in advance, dealing with the pressure and making excuses. Until the day Edward angrily found my house, taught me a lesson and then sent me to the Spain in a sack.
I finally realized that I had become the one who took the blame for everything.
I couldn't help but feel a surge of anger when I thought about how Edward got revenge on me in my previous life. And then there was Claire and her lover, who murdered me to cover their tracks. It all made me so angry! I thought it's time for a change.
Today, I would make you uncover the filthy truth about your ‘perfect’ wife, Edward!
A cold smile curled as I responded to the phone, “Claire is busy right now,” I said casually. “She is dealing with some plumbing issues. She won’t be back for a while.”
I hung up and turned off my phone before Edward could respond, cutting off any further conversation. No more explanation. No more apologies. Before I can even sit down, there’s a pounding at the door.
The door burst open with so much force that I stumbled back when I unlocked it. Before I could even think, a group of bodyguards pinched me down. Edward came storming into my tiny apartment, his heavy footsteps echoing as he flipped furniture, ripped through every room and searched for Claire. He looked around the two-room hut, searching for her. Yet nothing was found.
“She is busy with plumbing, isn’t she? Where is she?” he demanded, his face flushed with anger and frustration.
I tilted my head, looking at him with an angry face. The pleasure of revenge grew in my heart.
I raised an eyebrow and said calmly, “I said she is busy with the plumbing, but I never said it was at my place. Maybe she is at your brother’s house dealing with it. Why don’t you check there?”
Edward’s eyes darkened as he grabbed a fistful of my hair, his voice dropping dangerously. “Stop playing games with me. This is your last chance. Where is she?”
