Chapter 2

I bit my lip, refusing to show any weakness in front of him.

"Daisy was probably busy with her games, and I was just her scapegoat. There was no way she'd tell me where she was." I thought.

After a tense standoff, I finally sneered, "You're her husband and you don't know where she is? How should I know? Maybe I should ask those guys she's with, one of them might be able to tell you!"

Henry's anger flared, his face darkening dangerously, on the verge of exploding.

He grabbed my collar, yanking me up from the ground.

Just as he raised his hand to strike, one of the bodyguards noticed the plane tickets on the coffee table.

In the next moment, the tickets and the documents from my company, showing that I was to go abroad for training, were handed to Henry.

He glanced at them with disdain, a mocking smile spreading across his face.

"Ruined my wedding, made my bride disappear, and you still think you can escape the country?

"Dream on, you'll have plenty of time for that after you're dead!"

With that, he pulled out his phone and called my boss.

I immediately reached out to stop him, but the bodyguards restrained me, pinning my limbs down.

"Back when we were in love, Henry introduced me to the company, and I worked hard to earn my current position.

With just a word from him, my career could be destroyed."

The thought of this made panic surge through me.

"In my previous life, I had given up the chance to go abroad because of them, only to meet a tragic end in the mountains.

After my rebirth, I bought my ticket and packed my bags as quickly as I could. Was I still unable to escape?" I thought.

Henry dialed the number as I watched in terror.

Mr. Carter's voice sounded tired, but his tone was respectful.

When he heard Henry coldly order him to cancel my opportunity to go abroad and to fire me immediately, his voice rose in shock.

"What? Mr. Whitman, may I ask why?"

Henry's patience was running thin, and he snapped. "Do I need to explain myself? Do as I say, or your company won't open tomorrow!

"This woman, who sells herself for status, isn't someone you need either. If she hadn't seduced me, I wouldn't have been stupid enough to recommend her to you."

I struggled to speak, but a cloth was suddenly stuffed into my mouth, silencing me.

In the business world, Henry's word was law.

Hearing his command, Mr. Carter backed down, muttering a quick agreement before hanging up.

I felt a surge of helpless anger, my eyes turning red.

Just as I was about to say something, the phone on the sofa beeped with a new message. A bodyguard picked it up, unlocked it using my fingerprint, and handed it to Henry.

On the screen was a message from my boss confirming my dismissal. Henry shoved the phone in my face, forcing me to see it clearly.

Fury and despair made my vision blur, and I spat at him.

"The best decision I ever made was breaking up with you!

"You don't deserve love! You're a perfect match for Daisy, that conniving bitch!"

His response was a slap that nearly knocked me unconscious.

Then he grabbed my hair, pulling my head back roughly.

"You have no right to say her name! After all the money she's given you, now you've made her disappear. If we don't find her tonight, I'll make sure your whole family pays the price!"

With that, he began scrolling through my phone contacts right in front of me.

His eyes landed on the name I had marked as unique.

Without hesitation, he dialed it.

My eyes widened in shock, cold sweat breaking out on my forehead.

Soon, my boyfriend Kyle's gentle voice came through the phone.
