For weeks, I felt a pull I couldn’t explain, something urging me to spy on Alpha Xavier. It didn’t make sense, but tonight, I gave in. I found myself sneaking through the darkened halls, my heart pounding as I approached his office. I pressed myself against the cold stone wall with my senses heightened, picking up every sound. That’s when her scent hit me —Celeste, the beta’s daughter who circled Alpha Xavier like a predator. My wolf stirred, but I shoved her back down. This wasn’t the time to lose control.

“You don’t need her anymore, Alpha,” Celeste purred.

“She’s weak. She’ll never give you what I can.”

Weak? My nails dug into the stone wall, scraping against the rough surface. Celeste, that snake, was trying to replace me.

Alpha Xavier’s voice was low and calm but unmistakable.

“You’re right. The pack needs an heir. You’re carrying my child, and that’s what matters now.”

I froze. His child? My blood ran cold as the meaning of his words sank in. The late nights, the distance, and the coldness weren’t because of pack business. It was because of her. My chest tightened, and I had to bite my lip from making a sound. Then, Celeste’s smug laughter filled the room, ringing my ears like a victory bell.

“I knew you’d see it my way,” she said triumphantly and chuckling.

“She’s only holding you back, Alpha. Once the baby is born, the pack will accept me as Luna. They won’t have a choice.”

I couldn’t breathe. My grip on the stone tightened until my fingers throbbed, but I didn’t care, I barely felt it. I stood beside Alpha Xavier as his Luna for five years. And now, because I hadn’t given him a child, he was tossing me aside like I was nothing.

“I’ve made my choice,” Alpha Xavier said coldly.

That was it. He’d chosen Celeste. My body shook, and I stumbled back, barely able to keep my feet moving as I ran away from the office.

When I reached our cabin, I slammed the door and immediately collapsed onto the bed. Tears welled in my eyes, but I controlled them. I couldn’t afford to be weak right now. My mind raced, trying to understand what I’d heard, but it all pointed to the same thing: Celeste had won. She was carrying his child and was all that mattered to him. So, I cried.

After several minutes, my tears dried up and birthed rage. Celeste might have his child, but that didn’t make her Luna. That title was mine, and I had fought for it with everything I had. She couldn’t just walk in and take it.

Slowly, I pushed myself to stand in front of the mirror. I looked like a mess. My hair clung to my damp skin, my eyes swollen from crying, but there was a fire behind them.

I paced the room, thinking. Confronting wouldn't help. Charging in full of rage would only give Celeste the satisfaction of seeing me break. No, I needed to be smarter. I needed a plan.

A knock on the door snapped me out of my thoughts. My heart jumped when I saw Alpha Xavier open the door. Tonight, he came home early. He stood in the doorway, his face unreadable but his presence filled the room with tension.

"What are you doing here? Didn't you say you must take care of something important for the pack's business?” I demanded.

Alpha Xavier didn't respond right away and just closed the door.

“We need to talk.”

I crossed my arms over my chest and narrowed my eyes at him.

“There’s nothing to talk about. You made your choice.”

"What?" he said in surprise.

I didn't respond but just looked at him. He closed his eyes as he realized I knew about his betrayal. Alpha Xavier stepped closer, and his eyes were so dark that I couldn't understand.

“It’s not that simple, Raven.”

I laughed.

“It’s actually that simple. You chose Celeste. Now you’re here to what? Explain? Justify it?”

His jaw tightened, trying to control his temper. But I knew he was pissed.

“I didn’t want it to happen like this.”

“Then why did it?” I snapped.

“You’ve been lying to me for months, and now you expect me to just accept this?”

"Look Raven... my parents had been hoping for grandchildren until they died, and we still haven't had at least one. The elders, the pack, all were asking when."

I was about to argue with him when the door burst open. Celeste stormed into the room, annoyed to see me. I glared at her, but she only smirked.

"I knew you would be here, Alpha Xavier. You couldn't stay away from her, could you?” Celeste spat.
