My Alpha Wants His Mistress to Bear an Heir Chapter 1

Ember's POV

"My love and I are expecting our first pup."

Elara’s post caption burned my heart and each word cut through me like a sharp claw.

Memories of what I had always wanted swirled in my chest, tightening each second. I had dreamt of having pups of my own—tiny paws stumbling towards me, calling me “Mom.”

I’d imagined teaching my daughter to shift for the first time, guiding her through the pain of the change, or watching my son’s first run beneath the full moon. I had wanted our house to be filled with the sound of young wolves, their playful growls echoing in the night.

But Darius? He had always brushed me off. Whenever I’d mentioned having our pup, he’d say the timing wasn’t right, or he wasn’t in the mood. He’d laugh, saying pups were too loud, too much trouble—like they were something to be pushed aside.

It wasn’t just the pups, though. I wanted that life with him, to build something lasting. But the more I tried to get close, the further away he drifted. It felt like I was chasing a dream that was always slipping out of my grasp.

Then things changed.

Darius began staying out late.

I noticed him looking through articles on raising pups—something he never cared about before. My heart leapt. Maybe he was finally ready. Maybe he wanted the future I had longed for, the family we could build together.

But as the days passed, the truth became clearer. Those plans? They weren’t for us. They were for someone else.

For her. Elara.

The thought twisted inside me like a blade.

That night, Darius came home earlier than usual. The door creaked open, and he called out, "Hey, babe!" His voice sounded too cheerful, too fake.

I lay in our house, staring at the ceiling, my heart in pieces. The sound of the shower in the other room barely comforted me. When he finally climbed into bed, his hand brushed mine, as if nothing had changed between us. But I couldn’t reach back.

I wanted to feel something, anything, other than this emptiness. I wanted to believe we could fix it, that we could save what was broken. But all I could feel was the truth—I wasn’t the one he wanted.

Then, like it was the most casual thing in the world, he spoke. His voice was soft, almost tender.

“Ember, Elara wants pups, but she doesn’t want them with someone she doesn’t love. Once the pup is born, I’ll end things with her. I promise.”

His words were like a punch to the gut. My breath caught in my throat. Elara. The pup. It wasn’t just a mistake. It was real. He had planned a future—but not with me.

I couldn’t respond. Slowly, I pushed his hand off me and shifted to the edge of the bed. The cold space between us was impossible to ignore.

Sensing the change, he snapped. “What’s your problem? You said you didn’t care about my past! You said you just wanted to be with me!” His voice rose, sharp with frustration.

He continued ranting, accusing me of jealousy. “I didn’t even have to tell you this. I was honest out of respect. You’re making this harder than it needs to be. You’re really disappointing me right now.”

Then came the final blow. “If you want pups, I can have one with you later. I’ll sleep on the couch tonight.”

With that, he stormed out, leaving me in silence. I lay there, staring at the moonlight filtering through the trees. A bitter laugh escaped my lips. In his mind, being “honest” was a favor. And if I didn’t accept it, I was the one at fault.

I had been blind for so long, but now the truth was as clear as day.

I had poured everything into Darius—my loyalty, my love, my future. And what had he given me in return? Betrayal. I had imagined us as mates, me as his soon-to-be Luna, raising pups, building a family together. But all of that was in ruins now, shattered like the bond I thought we had.

The next morning, Darius was already gone. He had been slipping away early and disappearing for days at a time. It wasn’t like this was new for me; he had been doing this for a while now.

Just as I was about to leave the house, Elijah, his gamma, reached out through the pack’s link.

“Ember, I’ve been trying to contact Alpha Darius for days.” His voice was steady, but the words were like a bolt of lightning. “He hasn’t returned to the Alpha’s office at all. Do you know what’s going on with him?”

I knew exactly where he was.

The pieces finally fell into place, and my stomach churned. Darius wasn’t just hiding something—he was with Elara. The knot in my chest tightened, fury and despair swirling as I imagined them together, their betrayal out in the open.

I shoved those thoughts aside and focused on the only thing I had planned for the day—my appointment with the pack healer. I was getting a routine procedure done, nothing serious, but it didn’t matter. My mind wasn’t on the surgery; it was stuck on the wreckage of my life.

The healer worked quickly, and I was awake again in no time. But it wasn’t the anesthesia that left me feeling numb—it was the weight of everything Darius had destroyed.

As they guide me out, I saw something that made my blood run cold.

It was them…clinging to each other.

Elara and my mate…Darius.
