My Alpha Wanted His Mistress and My Luna Mark Novel Cover

My Alpha Wanted His Mistress and My Luna Mark

Seven years of letters, stolen calls, and patient waiting end the moment Lyra crosses her alpha mate's threshold. The house reeks of another woman—floral, foreign, woven into every curtain. Then Florence appears, soft and practiced, a Silverfang mark on her wrist, a small boy clutching her sleeve with the same brand. The mark that once burned Lyra's neck now claims a family she never knew existed. Her homecoming becomes a raw confrontation with betrayal, as the mate who swore he'd wait reveals a life built entirely without her.

Chapter 1

The scent hit me eight steps past the threshold. Not Cassius's pine and iron — something else, floral and foreign, worked so deep into the curtains and the grain of the banister that it had to have been there for years. Seven years I'd waited for this doorway. It took eight steps to unravel it.

I stopped in the middle of the entry hall, my duffel bag still on my shoulder, and made myself breathe again.

"Florence." Cassius's voice came from the stairs, warm, careful, the voice I remembered from letters and stolen phone calls. But before I could answer, a woman appeared at the top of the staircase.

She was lovely in a soft, practiced way — a robe cinched at the waist, hair loose, a mark on her wrist I knew on sight because it was the same one burned into my own neck. Silverfang. A small boy stood beside her wearing the identical mark, his hand fisted in her sleeve.

Then I heard the meow.

Barnaby trotted out of the boy's bedroom, sleek and unbothered, and wound himself around the child's ankles like he'd done it a thousand times before. He didn't look at me once.

"Who is this?" I asked. My voice came out smaller than I wanted.

"This is Lia," Cassius said, coming down the last steps too fast, positioning himself between us like a referee. "And her son, Tru. Florence, I can explain—"

"Explain what? Why she's wearing my mark? Why my cat is sleeping in that boy's room?" The words scraped out of me raw. Seven years of patience cracked open in one breath.

His jaw tightened. The air around him thickened, pressed down, and his voice dropped into that register I'd only ever heard him use on pack members who'd stepped out of line. "Calm down. Be reasonable." Every syllable landed like a hand on the back of my neck. "I owe Lia's family my life. Tru's wolf is traumatized — the healer prescribed a stable Alpha presence. You're acting cold-hearted over something you don't understand."

Something in my chest — small, curled tight for over a decade — twitched.

And underneath his authority, through the bond, I felt it: guilt. A hot, guilty pulse radiating straight from his sternum into mine, buried under all that command like a stone dropped in water. He could bury his voice. He couldn't bury that.

My wolf, silent since I was a girl, scraped at the inside of my ribs for the first time in years.

The mark on my neck flared — hot, then cold, then hot again, a stutter like a door trying to decide whether to close. I swayed, one hand flying to my throat, and caught the doorframe with the other.

Cassius reached for my shoulder, proprietary, certain I'd fold the way I always had.

I stepped back before his fingers found me.

He blinked, thrown by that small, deliberate inch of space. It wasn't much. It was the first thing I'd taken back in seven years.

Dinner that night, Lia sat at his right hand. The Luna's seat. She served him roast lamb the way you'd serve a man you'd fed for years — unthinking, exact. Pack members greeted her by name and me with careful, unsure nods, like they weren't certain which woman they were supposed to know. Tru called Cassius something warm and familiar I didn't quite catch, and Cassius ruffled the boy's hair with an ease that had never once been offered to me.

Through the bond I caught flashes of him — contentment, thick and domestic, soaked in someone else's cooking and a child's laugh. My wolf scraped harder. I ate in silence at the far end of the table, memorizing the shape of every wrong thing in the room, my knuckles white around my fork.

Afterward I found Maren, the healer, restocking the medical cabinet in the side corridor, her sleeves pushed up, movements quick and efficient.

"How long has Lia been living in the Alpha quarters?" I asked.

Her hands went still over the shelf.

She didn't answer. She didn't look at me. Her eyes dropped once — to the mark on my neck — and something in her face went soft with a pity so deep it told me more than any words could have. Then she set a small tin of salve on the counter beside my hand, unprompted, and walked away.

I closed my fist around it and carried it down the hall — past the Alpha quarters, past a narrow door beneath the stairs that reeked, faintly, unmistakably, of that same floral sweetness — to the guest room at the end of the corridor. Not the den. Not mine.

I'd barely shut the door when a burst of warmth rolled through the bond — his, easy, unguarded, laughing at something far below me in the house.

My wolf snarled, once, sharp and awake.
