My Alpha Replaced Our Baby With His Mistress’s Daughter Novel Cover

My Alpha Replaced Our Baby With His Mistress’s Daughter

I've always scented what others miss — Mitchell swore I could smell a lie a county away. Then the wand crossed my daughter's wrist at her pre-feast checkup, and my nose caught what no one prepared me for: her bloodline held no thread of mine. Something inside me vanished in that breath. Now I must face the man who shares my bed and the mistress whose daughter wears my name, unraveling every thread of the life I believed we built. My mate, my child, my future — all balanced on a truth that could destroy us.

Chapter 1

The scent-wand passed over Anya's collarbone at 9:40 in the morning, and something in my chest went missing before I understood why.

Dr. Holloway ran it slow, the way he always did for the pre-feast checkups, murmuring numbers to his assistant. I stood at the edge of the exam table with my hand flat against the cold steel, watching my daughter swing her bare feet and hum some tune from a cartoon. I wasn't thinking about anything. I was thinking about seating charts for the bonfire.

Then the wand crossed her wrist, and my nose caught what it was built to measure — bloodline threading, the marker every pup carries from the parent who birthed them. I've always had a strange gift for scent, sharper than any healer I've met, a thing Mitchell used to joke about at pack dinners. *Kora could smell a lie in another county.* I never thought it was more than a quirk.

Anya's skin carried no thread of mine. Not faded. Not weak. Absent.

My wolf whimpered, once, low and involuntary, a sound I felt more than heard, like a paw testing a floor that wasn't there. My hands didn't move from the table edge. My face didn't change. I thanked Dr. Holloway, took Anya's small warm hand, and walked her out into the hallway like the last six years hadn't just cracked down the middle.

I left Anya with Elder Ruth that afternoon, telling her I had errands before the feast. Then I crossed the eastern border alone, on foot, until I reached Mara's clinic — a healer from Ridgemont Pack, no marriage ties to Shadowvale, no reason to lie to me or for me. I'd helped her pack broker a trade agreement two winters back. She owed me nothing and everything.

"Two samples," I told her, setting the vials on her counter. "Mine and my daughter's. I need a full bloodline confirmation. Today."

Mara looked at me for a long moment before she nodded and got to work.

The results came back within the hour. Zero shared markers. Unambiguous, black on white, no room to argue with biology.

"Kora." Mara's voice was careful. "Do you want me to keep the original here? Just in case."

"Yes," I said. "Give me a copy."

She folded the original into a locked drawer and handed me the copy. I tucked it into my sleeve and walked back to Shadowvale with my spine straight and my wolf pacing behind my ribs, quiet now, waiting.

Mitchell was at his desk when I walked into the study without knocking. He looked up, saw my face, and I watched something in his shift — not surprise. Recognition. Like a man who'd been waiting six years for a knock he'd hoped would never come.

I set the folded paper on the desk between us. "Read it."

He read it. He didn't deny it. He didn't apologize. His jaw only tightened, and his eyes went flat and calculating, a man running numbers behind a still face.

"Where is she?" My voice came out level. I was proud of that, distantly, the way you're proud of a hand that doesn't shake while the rest of you is on fire. "Our daughter. Where is she, Mitchell?"

Nothing.

"How long have you known?"

He said nothing to that either. The silence sat between us like something alive.

My wolf surged then, a snarl that rattled up through my chest and into my throat, and for one second I felt my eyes go hot, gold bleeding into my vision. Mitchell saw it. I watched him see it — watched the flicker of something almost like fear cross his face before he buried it.

"Kora." His voice dropped into the Alpha register, that low commanding pressure meant to fold me in half. "Sit down."

The tone hit my knees like a hand shoving down. I felt my body want to obey out of six years of habit. I didn't sit.

"No," I said, and turned for the door.

"I said sit down." Sharper now, edged with something close to panic.

I didn't stop walking. Behind me, I heard his chair scrape back, heard the low scrape of his desk drawer sliding open — the one he kept locked, the one I'd never once seen him touch in six years of marriage.

I didn't turn around to see what was in it. I walked out into the hall, my heart slamming, the copy still folded against my wrist, and behind me Mitchell's voice cracked out through the open door, low and fast into his phone.

"Grant. My office. Now."
