My Alpha Rejected Me for the Kitchen Omega

8.8 / 10.0
At 9:47 p.m., the celebration turns to ruin. Harrison lifts his glass, and every Alpha, Beta, and delegate watches as he crowns Addilyn—the kitchen omega—in the midnight-blue gown from their own marking ceremony. His choice is a public execution of their bond, a brutal theft of the future they promised, and a wound that bleeds before the whole pack. Now, with her heart shattered and her place stolen, the night that should have sealed their union becomes the moment everything falls apart.

My Alpha Rejected Me for the Kitchen Omega Chapter 1

The bond broke at 9:47 p.m., halfway through the toast I wrote for him.

Harrison stood at the head table with a glass of wine in his hand. Every Alpha I had invited was watching him. Every Beta I had seated by rank. Every delegate whose name I had memorized. And beside him stood Addilyn, the little omega from the kitchens, wearing my gown.

My Luna gown. Midnight blue silk, silver thread at the collar. I had worn it at our marking ceremony. It was meant to be locked in my closet.

"I, Harrison, Alpha of Ironridge Pack," he said, loud and clear, "reject you, Gemma, as my mate and Luna."

The mark on my neck went cold. It did not fade slowly. It went out all at once, like someone had pressed a thumb onto a flame. Then the cold turned to nothing, like a door closing on an empty room.

Inside my chest, my wolf woke up for the first time in years. She howled, and it was rage, not grief. It ripped up my throat and burned behind my eyes.

Then she was gone.

The hall went still. Every wolf felt it. The broken bond rolled through the room like a cold wind. Glasses stopped halfway to lips. Someone's fork hit a plate.

Addilyn pressed herself against Harrison's arm. Her lip shook. Her eyes were wet and wide, like she couldn't believe her luck. She was good at that face. I had watched her practice it in the kitchen window for months.

They were all waiting for me to fall apart. I could feel it.

I set down my wine glass. Slowly. The click on the table was the only sound in the room.

"I, Gemma, accept your rejection," I said. My voice was flat and even. It carried to the back wall. "Let the hall witness it."

Harrison blinked. He had expected tears. Maybe he wanted them.

I walked the length of the table. Nobody stopped me. My heels were loud on the stone floor. Addilyn saw me coming and shrank back, but not fast enough.

I slapped her. Hard. Her head turned with it.

"That dress is mine," I said.

She gasped and grabbed Harrison's sleeve. For half a second, her eyes went sharp and cold. Then the tears came back. Too late. I had seen it.

I didn't look at Harrison. I turned to Dorian, our Beta, and to the Gamma standing behind him.

"I invoke the Luna Accord," I said. "In full. Every alliance I brought into this pack. Every territorial bond. Every training pact. I am taking them back."

Dorian's face went white. He knew. He had written the bonding terms himself, five years ago, to keep me small. And he knew the Accord sat above every one of them.

Harrison's jaw locked. He looked past me, at the wall. He always did that when he was scared.

Then I felt it. The Alpha tone, pushed through what was left of the bond.

*Gemma. You will go to your quarters and you will stay there.*

It hit me like a gust of wind. For one second my knees wanted to bend. Then the pressure broke apart against the cold place on my neck, and there was nothing behind it.

I didn't move. I just looked at him.

The whole room watched their Alpha's command fail. I heard someone at the allied table whisper. Harrison heard it too. His face went red.

"Then hear it out loud," he snapped. "As of tonight, Gemma is omega. Gamma, take her to her quarters. Put a guard on the door."

The Gamma hesitated. Only a second. Then he took my arm.

He walked me out past the Riverside Alpha, whose daughter I had helped find a mate. Past the Blackwater delegate, whose border dispute I had settled at three in the morning. Past the map on the wall that I had paid for, every line drawn under my watch.

I kept my chin up. I kept my face calm.

The dead mark pulsed once with cold. Then it went numb.

---

My old Luna quarters looked the same. The same bed. The same desk. The same window over the training field. But the lock was on the outside now.

I sat on the edge of the bed. My fingers went to the back of my neck, the way they always did. Checking for warmth.

I stopped myself. I put my hand in my lap.

There was nothing to check anymore.

I closed my eyes and reached for my wolf. Before tonight, she had always been thin and far away, like a voice through a wall. Now there was no wall. There was no voice. Just quiet.

Fine.

I had never had a strong wolf. I had something else.

I started at the top. Riverside Pack. Alpha Weston. Training pact, three years, renewed in March. His weakness was his eldest son. Blackwater Pack. Border agreement, signed in my handwriting. Clause nine gave Ironridge the eastern river. Clause nine only stood while I was Luna. Greyhollow. Silver Creek. The northern trade route. Seven alliances. Eleven pacts. Every name. Every phone number. Every favor still owed to me, not to him.

Harrison never learned any of it. He never had to. I did it all.

I went through the list twice. Then a third time. Slowly. Until I could say it in my sleep.

Outside my door, boots shifted. A low voice. The guard was changing. I looked at the clock. 11:58. Two minutes between the old guard leaving and the new one getting settled. He went down the hall to the stairs first. I counted the steps.

I wasn't planning to run. Runners got caught.

I was planning to move.

Then I heard Harrison in the hallway. His voice was tight.

"Dorian. Get the Blackwater Alpha on the phone. Tonight. Before she does."

A pause. Then Dorian, very quietly.

"Alpha... she never gave us his number."
