My Alpha Rejected Me for His Rogue Mistress Novel Cover

My Alpha Rejected Me for His Rogue Mistress

At exactly 10:14 on a Tuesday night, my sacred bond shattered forever. Memphis arrived twenty minutes late to our sacred Mate Ceremony, carrying the unmistakable, cloying scent of his rogue mistress, Nellie, on his skin. This ultimate betrayal was exposed before three hundred gathered wolves, including powerful allied Alphas and Victor Hale, the Lycan King's watchful Beta. With trembling hands, I watched our divine union twist into a humiliating, public execution of my heart.

Chapter 3

Alaric did not let me leave the chamber after the notebook.

He waved his council out with a single gesture, and they filed past me without meeting my eyes. When the doors closed, the room felt smaller. Quieter. He gestured for me to sit, and I did, the borrowed jacket still tight around my shoulders.

"There are things you need to know," he said. "I will tell you all of them. Now."

I nodded. I had not slept. My hands still trembled faintly from the run. But Sable was wide awake inside me, and she was listening.

He began with my mother.

Seraphina. Her name landed in my chest like a stone dropped into still water. She had been the King's younger sister, mated to the Alpha of a small allied pack in the northern foothills. The Gonzalez rogues had come at night. They had killed her mate at the door. They had poisoned her with wolfsbane—enough to stop her wolf but not her heart, a specific Gonzalez cruelty—and they had taken me from her arms while she was still breathing.

"She is alive," Alaric said.

My fingers tightened on the chair arm.

"In a private facility. She has been comatose for twenty-six years. The healers cannot wake her. They have tried everything." He paused. The pause was long. "Her survival has always been tethered to yours. They have told me this for years. I did not understand what it meant until last night."

I did not trust my voice. I waited.

"Your wolfsbane work," he said. "The antidotes you brewed for Silverfang."

"I taught myself," I said. "From old healer texts. I—"

"You manifested it." He said it plainly. "It is royal healer blood. Seraphina's gift. It has been working through you since before you understood what a wolf was. Every warrior you kept alive in that pack, Elena—you did not learn that. You inherited it. And it was reaching for your mother the entire time without you knowing."

I sat very still.

Five years. Every dawn at the stove, grinding root, measuring drops. Memphis collecting the kits from my workbench without a word of thanks. Warriors I had pulled back from death, who had bowed their heads to Nellie last night and let Memphis speak the vow over me.

It had never been a skill I earned. It had been a birthright they did not know they were stealing.

"The alliances," I said quietly.

Alaric nodded once. "Your latent aura anchored them. Bloodline channels through proximity. Every treaty Memphis Watkins signed was sealed by a Luna presence the Council registered without naming. Now that you have been removed, those treaties are dissolving. They began dissolving the moment your mark went cold."

"He doesn't know," I said.

"He will learn."

Sable rumbled inside me, low and satisfied.

---

The Gamma's first mind-link reached me at dusk.

It arrived like a tap on a window from across a great distance—quiet, deliberate, threading past the broken Silverfang bonds and finding me anyway. *Luna. The packs are pulling out. Three dissolution notices already. Memphis called an emergency council. He cannot explain it.*

I closed my eyes. *Where are you?*

*Holding cell. Sub-level two. They have not harmed us. He is using us as leverage. He will demand your return.*

*Hold,* I sent back. *I am coming for you. Not yet, but I am coming.*

There was a pause. Then: *Yes, Luna.*

The word landed differently now. It was not aspirational. It was accurate.

---

I did not sleep that night either. I worked.

By morning I had drafted a brief—bloodline confirmation, Victor Hale's witness affidavit on the involuntary biological refusal of three Silverfang warriors, a preliminary territorial impact assessment built from the treaty terms in my notebook. I requested a formal audience with the Lycan Prince. Caelan Hale. Commander of the Council's enforcement division. The only authority who could move the Luna Accord clause through the tribunal.

His aide responded within the hour.

The strategy chamber was on the north side of the compound, all clean lines and tall windows. I wore borrowed clothes—a plain dark dress the Lycan staff had brought without being asked—and I carried the brief in a single folder under my arm. My hair was still damp from a hurried shower. I did not care.

The doors opened.

The scent hit me first—pine and something cool underneath, like rain on stone—and I had no name for what it did to me. My chest tightened. Sable went very still inside my mind, the way a wolf goes still at the edge of a clearing when something important is on the other side.

Caelan Hale rose from behind the table.

He was tall. He did not perform it. He simply stood, and the room arranged itself around him without his asking. His eyes met mine and held, and for one half-second his hand flexed at his side as though he had reached for something and stopped himself.

He did not speak first.

He gestured to the chair across from him. I sat. I placed the folder on the table between us and slid it toward him.

"Prince Hale," I said. "I am invoking the Luna Accord against Alpha Memphis Watkins of Silverfang. I have brought the supporting documentation."

He opened the folder.

He read in silence for a long time. Not skimming. Reading. His finger paused once on Victor's affidavit and once on the dissolution timeline I had projected from my treaty notes.

When he looked up, his face was composed. His voice was even.

"Tell me, Elena," he said, "how you came to brew wolfsbane antidote without formal healer training."

I blinked. The question was in the brief. He had just read the answer.

"It is on page four," I said carefully.

"I know." The corner of his mouth shifted—not a smile, something quieter. "I would like to hear you tell it."

I told him.

He asked two more questions—about the night of the rejection, about the three detained warriors. Both answers were already in front of him. I answered anyway. He listened the way I had not been listened to in five years: without correcting, without interrupting, without waiting for his turn.

When I finished, he closed the folder.

"You have the enforcement division," he said. "What timeline do you require?"

I had not expected it to be that simple.

"They are holding three of my warriors," I said. "I need the Accord moved before he uses them."

Caelan nodded once. "Then we move tonight."

He held my eyes a moment longer than the meeting required. Something passed behind his expression—controlled, deliberate, withheld—and then he gave it room and let it go.

He did not tell me what he had scented when I walked through the door.

Not yet.
