This werewolf romance plunges into betrayal and heartbreak, where a rejected mate must face the devastating consequences of a broken bond.

My Alpha Rejected Me for His New Luna Chapter 1

The clock on Dane's desk read 3:00 AM when he finally spoke the words.

"I, Dane Stone, Alpha of the Ironveil Pack, reject you, Samara Crawford, as my mate."

His voice was flat. Clinical. Like he was reading quarterly profit reports instead of severing a bond the Moon Goddess herself was supposed to have blessed. Behind him, through the floor-to-ceiling windows of his private quarters, I could see headlights cutting through the dark—Lilyana's convoy rolling up the long drive to the pack house gates. He'd timed this perfectly. Clear out the old Luna before dawn so the new one could move in with the sunrise.

The pain hit a heartbeat later.

It felt like molten silver pouring through my veins, burning from the inside out. My wolf—Seraphine, suppressed and caged for three years—howled in my consciousness, a sound of pure anguish that no one else could hear. The bond-severance tore through the carefully constructed walls I'd built around my heart, ripping at connections I'd spent a thousand days pretending existed.

I didn't make a sound.

Dane was watching me. Waiting. I could see it in the way he held himself, shoulders tense, eyes narrowed with something that might have been concern or might have been impatience. He expected me to collapse. To cry. To beg him to take it back.

I met his gaze instead.

Three years. Three years I'd played the quiet little Omega, muting my scent with wolfsbane, keeping my head down, enduring his indifference like it was a gift instead of an insult. Three years of watching him look through me like I was furniture. Three years of calculating every smile, every soft word, every moment of manufactured compliance.

And he still thought he knew me.

"The documents are here," Dane said, pushing a stack of papers across his desk. "Pack release forms. Sign them and you're free to go."

Free. The word was almost funny.

I walked to the desk on steady legs even though the pain was still ripping through me. Inside my mind, Seraphine was thrashing against the wolfsbane cage, desperate to break free and tear his throat out. I pushed her down gently. Not yet. Not yet.

The pen felt heavy in my hand. I signed each page with careful precision—Samara Crawford, neat and small, the signature of a wolf who knew her place. When I finished, I set the pen down and looked at him one last time.

His eyes were amber in the low light. His wolf was close to the surface. For just a second, I thought I saw something flicker across his face—doubt, maybe, or the ghost of a question he didn't know how to ask.

I turned and walked out.

The pack house was dark and silent. Everyone was asleep, tucked into their beds, dreaming of whatever normal wolves dreamed about. None of them knew their Alpha had just severed a mate bond at three in the morning to make room for his shiny new Luna. None of them had ever really seen me anyway.

I moved through the corridors like a shadow, my footsteps soundless on the polished wood floors. Past the kitchen where I'd served breakfast a thousand times. Past the common room where I'd sat quietly in the corner during pack meetings, invisible and insignificant. Past the library where I'd spent three years systematically photographing every page of the pack archives, building my case piece by piece.

The front door opened without a sound.

Outside, the forest was waiting. Dark and vast and full of possibility. Behind me, I could hear the rumble of Lilyana's convoy getting closer, the ceremonial howls of the border guards welcoming the future Luna home.

I stepped into the trees and started running.

The bond-severance pain was still there, a constant burn under my skin, but I pushed through it. Seraphine guided me even in her cage, her instincts sharper than any map. We knew these woods. We'd memorized every trail during those long nights when Dane couldn't be bothered to notice I was gone.

By the time the sun touched the horizon, I was fifteen miles away and moving fast. By the time Lilyana walked through the pack house doors to her welcoming ceremony, my wolfsbane-masked scent had already started dissolving from the Alpha quarters, fading like it had never existed at all.

And by the time Dane realized I hadn't collapsed, hadn't begged, hadn't broken—I was already gone.

Ariel's safe house sat on neutral territory, a small cabin tucked into a valley between pack lands where no Alpha's authority could reach. I made it there just as my legs finally gave out, my body hitting the porch steps hard.

The door flew open. Ariel was there in an instant, savage and tender, her arms catching me before I could fall the rest of the way.

"I've got you," she said. "I've got you."

Inside, she kicked the door shut and helped me to the couch. The pain was worse now, a delayed reaction as the full weight of the severed bond crashed over me. I'd been holding it together through sheer will, but here—here I could finally let go.

The sobs came in waves. Three years of suppressed agony, three years of swallowed rage, three years of playing weak when I was anything but. Ariel held me through all of it, her hand steady on the back of my neck, grounding me.

"He's an idiot," she said quietly. "And when you're ready, we're going to make him regret every second of it."

I pulled back enough to look at her. My best friend. My sister. The only wolf besides my father who'd ever really seen me.

"I'm done pretending," I whispered.

Ariel's smile was sharp and fierce. "Good. Because I've been waiting three years for you to say that."

I stood on shaking legs and walked to the bag I'd packed before the rejection—the only things I'd brought from Ironveil. Inside were the vials of wolfsbane perfume I'd used to mask my scent, the documents I'd stolen from the pack archives, and every piece of the muted, shapeless clothing I'd worn to blend into the background.

I took the wolfsbane vials to the sink and smashed them one by one, watching the liquid drain away. Then I carried the clothes to the fireplace and fed them into the flames.

Ariel watched me, understanding in her eyes.

When the last piece of fabric caught fire, I closed my eyes and stopped fighting.

Seraphine surged forward—not breaking free yet, but closer than she'd been in three years. I could feel her strength, her rage, her absolute refusal to be caged anymore. My true scent started to emerge, night-blooming jasmine and frost, so different from the faint, docile fragrance Dane remembered.

"That's my girl," Ariel said softly.

I opened my eyes and looked at the flames consuming my disguise.

Dane thought he'd rejected a powerless Omega.

He had no idea what was coming.
