My Alpha Rejected Me for His Chosen Luna

9.3 / 10.0
At 10:14 on a Tuesday night, the ceremonial clock tolled as her mating bond fractured. For three years, she had healed with blood and brewed wolfsbane, her scarred hands proof of devotion while Ironvale whispered she was unworthy. She chose a white dress with lace framing her mate mark, believing she finally belonged. But when the great hall filled and the sacred text opened, the doors slammed—and Kaden spoke words that ended everything.

My Alpha Rejected Me for His Chosen Luna Chapter 1

The bond broke at 10:14 on a Tuesday night.

I know because I was staring at the ceremonial clock above the altar when Kaden spoke the words. Three years. Three years of blood-healing that left my palms scarred. Three years of brewing wolfsbane in careful batches while the pack whispered I wasn't worthy of the Luna title. Three years of believing the mate mark on my neck meant I finally belonged somewhere.

The great hall was full. Every wolf in Ironvale had come to see us complete the ceremony. I stood at the altar in the white dress I'd spent weeks choosing, the one with lace at the collar that would frame the mark when Kaden renewed it. The officiant had just opened the sacred text when the doors slammed open.

A messenger. Young, out of breath, eyes wide. He crossed the hall in a run and whispered into Kaden's ear.

Kaden's face changed. Not shock. Something else. Something that looked almost like relief.

He didn't look at me. He turned to face the pack.

"Fiona Ellis has returned to Ironvale," he announced. His voice carried through the hall, steady and clear. "She has recovered memories of a prior chosen-mate claim."

The room went silent. I felt the mark on my neck flutter, confused.

Then Kaden turned to me.

His eyes were flat. Empty.

"I, Kaden Richardson, Alpha of the Ironvale Pack," he said, and the formal cadence made my stomach drop, "reject you, Madison Montgomery, as my fated mate. I sever the bond granted by the Moon Goddess. I release you from all mate obligations. I claim Fiona Ellis as my chosen Luna."

The mark on my neck went cold.

Not painful at first. Just cold, like someone had pressed ice directly against the skin. Then the cold spread inward, down through my chest, into the hollow space where the bond had lived for three years.

Kaden's wolf howled. I heard it through the bond, one last time—a sound like something tearing, like a door slamming in an empty room. Then silence.

Complete. Absolute. Silence.

My knees buckled. I grabbed the edge of the altar, white lace bunching under my fingers. The severance pain hit in a wave—not sharp, but hollow, like someone had scooped out my insides and left nothing but cold air. My wolf, who had been humming soft and content all evening, let out a single strangled whimper and went quiet.

I looked up. Kaden was already turning away.

The pack moved. Not toward me. Toward him. Voices rose in a murmur, then a buzz. Congratulations. Well-wishes. Someone laughed.

I was still on my knees on the altar steps.

A junior omega—I didn't know her name—came over and took my elbow. She didn't meet my eyes. She helped me stand, steadied me when I swayed, and guided me off the platform. My legs felt like they belonged to someone else.

No one else moved to help. No one looked at me.

I walked through the crowd in my white dress, the mate mark on my neck numb and empty, and not one wolf met my gaze.

By dawn, they'd moved me to the labor wing.

The room was small. A cot, a chair, a narrow window that looked out over the training yard. My ceremonial dress was still on the floor where I'd left it. I sat on the edge of the cot and pressed my thumb against the mark on my neck.

Nothing. No warmth. No hum. Just scar tissue and silence.

My wolf stirred, faint and far away, like she was trying to reach me through water.

I didn't cry. I sat very still and counted my breaths until the sun came up.

Three days later, Fiona moved into the Alpha house.

I watched from the laundry rotation. She swept through the main hall in a dress the color of wine, smiling at the warriors, touching Kaden's arm with easy ownership. At dinner that night—I was serving, now—she stood at the head table and gave a speech about Ironvale's future.

"The strong borders we've built," she said, her voice warm and confident. "The alliances that keep us safe. The healing protocols that protect our families."

She didn't name me. She didn't name anyone.

The pack applauded.

I set down a tray of glasses and walked back to the kitchen. My hands were shaking.

Every shield on those borders—I'd placed them. Every batch of wolfsbane—I'd brewed it. Every alliance—I'd negotiated it, alone, while Kaden signed the papers and took the credit.

And now Fiona stood there, in my place, claiming it all as hers.

I looked out the narrow kitchen window. The ceremonial hall was visible in the distance, lit up for another celebration.

My wolf growled. Low and distant, but unmistakable.

Not a whimper this time.

A warning.

Before I'd even recovered, Kaden summoned me to his study.

I went because I didn't know what else to do. The bond was gone, but I was still pack. Still bound by hierarchy. Still conditioned to obey.

Kaden sat behind his desk. Fiona stood beside him, one hand resting on his shoulder.

"Paisley's condition is deteriorating," Kaden said. No greeting. No acknowledgment of what he'd done. "The rejection doesn't dissolve your pack obligations, Madison. You'll continue the blood-healing rituals. It's a duty you owe to Ironvale."

I stared at him.

Fiona smiled. Thin and cold.

"It's not personal," she said. "It's just what's best for the pack."

I should have said no. I should have walked out.

But three years of conditioning don't break in three days.

I went to the healer's wing. Paisley was waiting, pale and quiet in the chair by the window. She looked at me, and something in her eyes looked like guilt.

I didn't speak. I sat down, took her hand, and opened the blood-healing bond.

Without the mate bond as an anchor, the drain was immediate and brutal. My palms bled. My vision blurred. I felt my own vitality pouring out, nothing coming back, just a one-way hemorrhage that left me hollow.

I collapsed before the session was even finished.

When I woke, I was back in the healer's wing. Paisley was sitting beside the cot, her face white.

"Madison," she whispered. "You can't do this again. It's killing you."

I closed my eyes. My wolf growled again, louder this time, and I finally understood.

Kaden intended to bleed me dry. He would call it duty. He would frame it as obligation. And he would keep taking until there was nothing left.

I waited until the healer left the room. Then I got up.

My legs were weak, but I made it to the administrative wing. The record room was locked, but I had the override code—I'd filed half the documents in there myself.

I pulled every file with my name on it. Wolfsbane batch logs. Border deployment maps. Alliance negotiation records. Every piece of proof that Ironvale's survival had been my work, not Fiona's, not Kaden's.

I packed them into a leather satchel and locked it under my cot.

I didn't tell anyone.

But I had the receipts now.

And I wasn't leaving them where Kaden could burn them.
