On the night of the summer solstice, Aubrey Wilder stands in her ceremonial gown, ready to claim her place as Luna. Instead, Alpha Collin Drake publicly severs their bond, her neck mark turning ice-cold while Blair's perfume clings to his skin. The mate bond dies, but the real horror follows when he takes their son. With her heart in pieces and her pack turned against her, Aubrey must summon every ounce of courage to confront Collin, defy pack law, and fight for the family she refuses to lose.

My Alpha Rejected Me and Stole Our Son Chapter 1

The bond broke at 8:47 on the longest night of the year.

I was standing in the middle of the Ironridge banquet hall in the pale green Luna gown I had chosen myself, one hand resting on the back of the chair where I was supposed to sit, when Collin stepped onto the dais and turned to face me.

He did not look nervous. That was the first thing I noticed.

The second thing I noticed was the smell. Under his shirt, layered against his own scent like a second skin, was Blair's perfume. Not a trace of it. All of it. As if she had been rubbing it into his chest for months.

"I, Collin Drake, Alpha of Ironridge," he said, in the voice he used to give orders, "reject you, Aubrey Wilder, as my mate and Luna."

The mark on my neck went cold first. Then it went empty. Like a door closing on a room no one lived in anymore. Somewhere deep behind my ribs, my wolf lifted her head and screamed—one long, splintering sound that no one else could hear—and then she was gone. Not sleeping. Gone. The place she had lived was a hollow with the shape of her cut out of it.

I did not fall. Not yet.

Collin crossed the space between us in three strides. His hand was already reaching. I saw the brand in his other hand—silver, red at the tip, the metal singing with heat—and I understood, very clearly and very late, that this had been planned down to the second.

His fingers closed on my jaw.

The silver touched my neck where his mark had been.

The smell that came off me was my own skin.

I did not scream. I don't know why. Somewhere I had already decided, in the two seconds between his sentence and his hand, that I was not going to give this room the sound. I held his eyes instead. Dry. Open. A pack elder near the wall dropped a glass, and it shattered on the floor, and no one moved.

Blair walked out of the crowd already wearing his scent like a coat. She stepped up onto the dais and tilted her head, and Collin lowered his mouth to her throat, and my knees finally, quietly, went.

The last thing I saw before the floor was the nursemaid handing my son to a pack elder in ceremonial gray. Jaden made a small sound. Not a cry. A question.

At the doorway, Marcus, our Beta, stood with his hands at his sides and did not move.

---

Three years later, I woke before the sun.

I dressed in the gray tunic they gave the Omegas, tied my hair back, and carried the mop bucket to the corridor outside the Alpha wing. The tile there was cold. The scar on my neck ached when the tile was cold. I knelt.

I scrubbed.

A delta warrior stepped over my bucket without looking down. A junior Omega passed with a tray and did not meet my eyes. This is what invisibility feels like from the inside: not that people cannot see you, but that they have agreed, together, not to.

I finished the corridor. I moved to the next room.

---

The visiting Alpha's Beta was watching me when Collin dropped the plate.

I had been standing against the wall of the breakfast room, hands folded, waiting for the signal to clear. Collin was mid-sentence about grain trade. He picked up his plate—eggs, sausage, toast, a pool of gravy—walked around the long table, and let it fall from waist height at my feet.

The porcelain cracked.

"Eat," he said. "From the floor. My guests should see how well an Omega is disciplined at Ironridge."

Blair, in the Luna chair, lifted her coffee cup and blew across the rim.

I did not move.

"Aubrey." His voice dropped. "Eat."

The Alpha tone hit me between the shoulder blades and started to bend me down. It felt like a hand between my ribs pressing. My knees began to fold against my will. Halfway down—

The command stuttered.

A hairline. A skip. Like a record catching. For half a second the pressure went thin, and my body was my own again, and I felt Collin feel it. His face did not change, but something behind his eyes did. He shut his mouth and went very, very still.

I straightened. I looked at no one. I picked up the plate, wiped the gravy from the tile with the rag at my belt, and walked out with the broken porcelain in my hands.

At the doorway, Marcus was standing at his Beta position. He did not look at me. But as I passed, his hand at his side flexed once, and I heard him breathe in through his teeth.

He was counting. He had been counting for three years.

---

After dusk I slipped past the border marker at the northeast fence, ducked under the low pines, and pushed the branch aside from the mouth of my den.

Nova was awake before I was inside.

She came out of the blankets like a small dark arrow, low to the ground, ears back, and pressed her whole body against my legs. She was two years old and half-wild and mine.

"Let me see," I said.

She lifted her leg. A fresh scratch, thin but deep, ran along her thigh. I unrolled my herb pouch and worked in silence, chewing yarrow to a paste, laying it into the cut. She held still.

When I was done, she pushed her nose against my neck—right against the silver scar—and growled. Low. Long. At the metal. At the man. At everything.

I put my forehead against her fur and let two tears fall and no more. Then I wiped my face on my sleeve and reached under the folded blanket for the book.

The pack charter was dog-eared to failure. I had three copies now, taken quietly from three different offices over three years. In the margins my handwriting ran tight and small: cross-references, clause numbers, one word underlined twice—*jurisdiction.*

I turned to the custody section by firelight. Nova settled against my hip and watched the pages with the gravity of an older wolf.

Clause 14.2. Clause 22.8. Clause 31, subsection C, which permitted a mate to petition the Lycan Council directly if pack-internal remedies had been denied. I ran my finger under the line and read it twice.

Three grounds. I had three grounds.

I did not smile. I did not celebrate. I copied the numbers onto the inside of my wrist in pen, where I could see them tomorrow when I was scrubbing, and I closed the book.

Outside, somewhere past the tree line back toward the pack house, a car door slammed. Then another. Voices—low, male, the wrong side of the fence for this hour.

Nova's head came up.

So did mine.

Someone was at my den.
