Chapter 2

Dominick's face drained of color in the span of a single breath.

He stood in the doorway, his Beta Marcus half a step behind him, his mother Aileen gripping the frame with white knuckles. Behind them, twelve pack members crowded the narrow hallway—elders, warriors, witnesses. They had come expecting to find their Luna disgraced, clothes torn, a rogue's scent marking her skin.

Instead I stood in the center of the room, silver dress intact, phone held steady in my outstretched hand.

The rogue lay bound and gasping on the floor behind me, silver-laced spray still burning his eyes.

The silence stretched. Someone in the hallway coughed. No one moved.

Dominick's mouth opened. Closed. His gaze flicked from me to the rogue to the phone in my hand. I watched the calculation happen behind his eyes—the script collapsing, the plan unraveling in real time.

Then his face hardened.

"Alicia." His voice dropped into the Alpha tone. Not the warm public register he used at ceremonies. The other one. The command voice that carried the weight of his wolf and his rank, designed to crack through resistance like a fist through glass. "Put the phone down."

I didn't move.

His jaw tightened. He stepped into the room. Marcus followed, hand already moving toward his belt—toward the silver-edged cuffs pack security carried for rogues.

"I said put it down." Dominick's voice rose, the Alpha tone intensifying. The air pressure in the room shifted. I felt it press against my skin, my chest, the base of my skull. "Kneel. Submit. Now."

Every witness in the hallway dropped their gaze. Bared their necks. The instinct was automatic, older than thought. Even Marcus's shoulders curved forward slightly, his wolf responding to the command layered into Dominick's voice.

I did not kneel.

Something inside me—geological, ancient, two years and one prior rejection in the making—refused.

Dominick's eyes widened. "I am your Alpha. You will—"

"No."

The word came out quiet. Steady.

And then my wolf erupted.

I had felt her rising since the moment I'd read Victoria's letters in Dominick's study. A pressure building behind my ribs, my spine, the back of my teeth. She had been dormant for so long—silent after my first rejection, distant through two years of suppressing every instinct that told me something was wrong.

Now she tore free.

My bones cracked. The sound echoed in the small room like gunfire. I dropped to my hands and knees as my skeleton reformed, ribs expanding, spine elongating. Pain ripped through every nerve. I heard Aileen gasp. Someone in the hallway swore.

The shift took less than ten seconds.

What stood in my place was massive.

Two meters of wolf, silver-furred from muzzle to tail, with an aura that hit the room like a shockwave. I felt it roll out from my center—authority, presence, something that had been buried under years of being told I was weak, defective, disposable.

Dominick's Alpha tone shattered against it.

He stumbled backward. His hand shot out to catch the doorframe. Marcus made a choked sound and dropped to one knee, his wolf forcing submission before his human mind could process what was happening.

Aileen seized the doorframe with both hands, her face gone white.

In the hallway, the twelve witnesses fell back. Two of them hit the opposite wall. One elder—Marcus's father—pressed his palm flat against his chest as though his heart had stuttered.

I turned my head toward Dominick. Met his eyes with my wolf's gaze.

His aura—the Alpha presence he had carried his entire life, inherited from his father, the foundation of every command he had ever given—cracked visibly. I saw it fracture like ice under pressure, splintering outward from the center.

He couldn't speak.

A voice came from the hallway. "Moon Goddess. Silver fur."

I shifted my focus. The pack healer, Maren, had pushed through the crowd. She stood in the doorway, one hand pressed to her mouth, staring at me with an expression I had never seen on her face before.

Recognition.

"Alpha-blood lineage," she whispered. "Silver fur. The old bloodline. I thought—we all thought it was extinct."

The hallway erupted in whispers. I heard fragments: *impossible*, *dormant for generations*, *how did we not know*.

I shifted back.

The transformation reversed, bones compressing, fur receding. I stood human again in less than five seconds, my dress torn at the seams but still covering me. Someone—Britta, one of the senior warriors—stepped forward and draped a tablecloth over my shoulders. I wrapped it around myself without breaking eye contact with Dominick.

He was still pressed against the doorframe. His breathing was shallow. His aura, diminished and fractured, flickered weakly around him.

I spoke.

"I invoke the Luna Accord."

The whispers stopped.

Maren's head snapped toward me. Marcus, still on one knee, looked up with his mouth open.

Dominick's face went from white to gray.

"The Luna Accord," I repeated, my voice carrying through the hallway, "requires a formal tribunal before the full Ironveil Pack before any Luna can be stripped of rank, title, or bond. Mandatory. Immediate. Irrefusable."

I stepped forward. Dominick didn't move.

"You wanted witnesses," I said quietly. "You'll have them. Every member of this pack. Tomorrow night. Main hall."

I looked past him to the twelve faces crowding the hallway. Some of them wouldn't meet my eyes. Others stared at me with expressions I couldn't read—shock, confusion, something that might have been fear.

I held up my phone.

"I have a recording," I said. "Of the rogue confessing that you commanded him to assault me. I have letters in your handwriting detailing the plan. I have financial records showing pack funds redirected to rogue networks. And I have this."

I touched the mark on my neck. Dominick's mark. Two years old. Still warm.

"I have the mate bond you intended to use as a weapon."

Dominick finally found his voice. It came out hoarse, stripped of the Alpha tone's resonance.

"Alicia—"

"Tomorrow night," I said. "Tribunal. You don't get to script this one."

I turned and walked toward the door. The crowd parted. No one tried to stop me.

Behind me, I heard Dominick's breathing—ragged, uneven, the sound of a man whose entire foundation had just collapsed beneath him.

I didn't look back.
