Chapter 3

“I’m glad you finally left him,” I heard my wolf say in my head, “I’ve been waiting for this day for a long time.”

I raced through the shadows, avoiding the lights as I ran away from the house, from my old life.

“I’m glad I left too,” I thought to her, “I just hope it’s a clean break.”

“You honestly don’t think that, do you?” My wolf scoffed.

“I’m hoping.”

Then I heard it, the wolf call. Blake has sounded the alarm for the pack to look for me. I don’t know what he told them, but I doubt it was the truth.

“Your hopes were too high.” She sneered. I ignored her and just let her help me run away. I used the shadows to hide, and the alleys to make sure I’m staying away from the usual paths.

Eventually, I reached a part of the city that is off limits to our pack. It’s off-limits because it is the only part of our city claimed by a neighboring pack. I knew it was a risk, but it was a risk I was willing to take.

It was already midnight when I arrived at the place. When I thought it was safe, I shifted back to my human form and wandered around, looking for spare clothes.

Thankfully I found some clothes in one of the clothes lines that seemed abandoned. It’s not the most comfortable shirt and shorts, but it will do.

I walked around the neighborhood on high alert. As much as I was safe from Blake, I wasn’t safe being part of the Seattle Pack in the Tacoma Pack’s territory. The pack is known to be ruthless and their Alpha unforgiving,

After a few hours of going around, I got hungry. I found a bakery where they didn’t lock their door. In hindsight, that should have tripped the alarms in my head, but I was really hungry.

As I was eating delicious bread, I heard a loud bang and then suddenly I was surrounded by werewolves.

They all growled at me, making me freeze where I stood.

The bell of the door rang and a man with striking grey eyes came in.

“Looks like this Luna is very far away from home.”

“You know who I am?” I asked, shocked, “How do you know who I am?”

“I’m the Alpha of the Tacoma pack. Of course, I know my enemies’ Luna.” He said, sounding slightly offended.

“What are you waiting for?” I said, trying to keep my voice from shaking, “Aren’t you going to kill me?”

He approached me, lifting my chin with his finger. He looked deep into my eyes, as if he was studying me and my past just by looking.

“Hmm,” He said, musing and thinking of his words, “You’re…different. You seem…untouched. But that’s impossible, right?”

“No,” I said defensively, “Is there something wrong with being a 26-year-old untouched wolf?”

“Absolutely not,” He said, “But it is weird to have an untouched 26-year-old MATED wolf.”

I tried to look away but he held my head in position, “Eyes on me.” He said in a voice so commanding I nearly buckled my knees.

“You’re…interesting.” He said dreamily, “Your name is Laura, right?”

“How do you know?” I asked, getting really scared now.

“Again, I’m the Alpha.” He said mockingly, “Of course I know.”

“And what’s your name then, Alpha?” I asked.

He chuckled, “A Luna of a pack who doesn’t know their enemy pack’s Alpha’s name. So, the rumors are true.”

“What rumors?” I hissed, getting annoyed.

“That you don’t do much for the pack.”

I looked down, ashamed that my role has reached other packs.

“Well, that’s all the confirmation I need.” He said, pushing me towards the arms of the two men behind me.

They gripped me tight, holding me to make sure I didn't escape.

“What are you doing?!” I demanded, still trying to get out of their grip.

“What do you think?” The Alpha said, patting himself down to make him look presentable again.

“I don’t know! That’s why I’m asking.” I said, angry now.

“Oh,” He said, amused, “Feisty, I see. Well, your alpha has set a high bounty for you. Time for us to collect and for your Alpha to owe us.”
