Chapter 3

He excitedly asked me to go out. "Sophia, I've booked a restaurant. Today we'll have dinner together with Clara and I'll officially introduce her to you."

Although I did not want to, I still nodded because I wanted to see the girl who had been by Pierre's side since childhood.

When I arrived, I found that she was a lot different from what I had imagined. I thought she was a sweet girl, but she had a neat short hair and had a cold and cynical face.

Yet she smiled with joy when she saw Pierre.

After we sat down, he began ordering some dishes. "Garlic butter baguette, wild mushroom cream soup, green salad, escargot, medium rare beef tenderloin steak, baked ribs and salmon with lemon."

"Alright, that's all for now."

I looked at him in confusion. I knew that salmon with lemon was my favorite and baked ribs were Pierre's favorites.

However, the other two things, escargot and wild mushroom soup, I once clearly said that I did not like to eat them, so who did he order them for?

Within a few minutes, I got the answer.

"Pierre, you ordered all the dishes I love to eat. You're so kind."

After saying that, she stretched out her palm. Pierre smiled affectionately and patted her palm gently.

Seeing it, I felt a deep sense of sadness in my heart.

Pierre was so considerate to her that he even remembered her favorite dishes.

In the dining table, I also felt that the way they got along was not like that of ordinary friends and Clara even confessed her love to him.

So it was hard for me not to overthink.

Just as we enjoyed the dishes, Clara brought up their childhood topics from time to time.

He responded to her with a smile in his eyes and I could not get a word in.

I felt like I was a stranger between them. Just seeing their interaction, I was uncomfortable, so I tried to enjoy my meal in silence.

Once in a while, I glanced at Pierre. He did not seem to notice my discomfort and instead, continued chatting with Clara cheerfully.

They even had more topics to talk about than Pierre and I.

At this time, Clara gave me a provocative look, as if to say, "He and I grew up together as childhood sweethearts. How can you, an outsider, compare to me?"

After having dinner, I clearly told the man.

"I don't like you come into contact with Clara. Don't you think your way of getting along with her is like that of a couple? When you walk on the street, those passers-by say that you two are a couple. Besides, she has confessed her love to you, can't you completely cut off contact with her?"

However, he responded, "Is it because I didn't take your feelings into consideration at the dinner table today?"

"I had a good chat today, but I won't do that next time. I rejected Clara for you, what else are you thinking about?"

After saying that, he added lightly. "If I could be with her, I would have been with her a long time ago and there would be no place for you."

It was that sentence again. I had heard him say it at least five times.

What I despised the most was people acting like boyfriend-girlfriend under the guise of being friends.

So I broke up with him, but he panicked.

For my sake, he deleted all contact information with Clara and promised me that he would not contact her again.

At that time, I easily forgave him. After all, he chose me between me and his childhood sweetheart.

But it was not until Pierre told me in tears, "Sophia, Clara ... something happened to her."

When I came back to my senses, it was already evening. I saw Pierre arriving late at the door of the ward.

There were beads of sweat on his head and when he saw me, his eyes were full of guilt.

"Sorry, Sophia, I'm late."

After seeing him, I did not have the desire to ask for his comfort. It was endless disappointment and despair.

For countless moments in the ward, I had been thinking that perhaps this child should not have been born in the first place.

With this child, Pierre and I had an inexplicable bond, but now that it was over, the bond was gone.

I could break up with him with peace of mind.

I turned my head away in disappointment, not even wanting to ask him what the engagement party was about.

Perhaps he knew that he was truly unforgivable this time, so he rushed to the stool next to me and sat down.

He said with a trembling voice, "I'm sorry, I went to negotiate a contract with a client and accidentally got drunk, so I came late."

As I watched him tell me a lie with a poker face, my heart sank into an ice cellar in an instant.

I stared at that face carefully, I did not know why, it made me feel so strange. He seemed to be not the Pierre I had known before.

I clearly told him that I hated lie the most.

He also promised me that he would never lie to me and if he did, he would be struck by lightning. Unfortunately, when he said these words, the lightning did not strike him.

I sneered and said, "Did you forget that I have Clara's social media circle of friends?"

I knew Clara sent it to me on purpose and she was afraid that I did not see it.

But fortunately, I saw it, otherwise I would not have known that they were so disgusting.

Pierre suddenly panicked. He quickly explained to me that he did not mean to deceive me and he was afraid that I would be angry if he told me.

I almost squeezed out these words from my mouth. "Pierre, our child is dead! But you are happily holding an engagement party with your childhood sweetheart!"

After I said that, I could not stop laughing. It was just too ironic.

He did not dare to answer, so I said, "She is your future wife, so who am I? Why don't we break up and you go marry her?"

As soon as my voice came out, Pierre froze in place. After confirming that he had not heard me wrong, he hurriedly took out his mobile phone and said, "Sophia, don't rush to make a decision. If you don't believe me, I'll call Clara."

The phone call was answered shortly after and he anxiously said to the other end of the phone, "Clara, Sophia has misunderstood. Please explain to her quickly."
