Mocked and Betrayed Until My Heiress Identity Made Them Beg Chapter 1

My best friend, the one I had cherished like a sister, severed our bond in a single moment.

Without hesitation, she handed me a bank card, her expression unreadable.

"This is for all the years you spent groveling at my feet like a dog," she said.

I stood there, stunned. I couldn’t understand it.

It wasn’t until I found her kneeling in the VIP room of the city's most exclusive club, her forehead pressed to the floor, her lips hovering over a greasy man's shoes, that everything fell into place.

I rushed forward, desperate to pull her away, but she shoved me back with surprising force, her eyes burning with fury.

"Mind your own damn business! This is just a game between my husband and me. How did a whore like you get into a place like this? Are you here to seduce my husband? Get out!"

With all her strength, she pushed me toward the door.

I wanted to tell her I hadn’t snuck in; I had every right to be here.

Because this club belonged to my family.

But before I could utter a word, the greasy man’s cold, mocking voice cut through the air.

“Since you’re here, you’re not leaving.”

Earlier that day, I had just finished a call with my brother and was about to leave my internship when the receptionist stopped me, handing me a bank card, saying it was left by my bestfriend, Heidi Scott.

I was puzzled. Unlocking my phone, I saw a message she had sent half an hour ago.

One sentence froze me in place.

"Let’s break up. Don’t contact me again. Tell Wesley I don’t want him anymore. There’s $10,000 in the card; you and Wesley can split it as though you’ve been licking my charity like dogs all these years."

I never imagined that the best friend who was about to become my sister-in-law would sever our bond so ruthlessly.

Confusion swirled in my mind as I thought back to last night.

We had always shared the same birthday and she had carefully placed a mango cake on the table, one she had made herself.

But she was severely allergic to mangoes, only making it because they were my favorite.

I had watched as a rash bloomed across her hands, her eyes red and irritated, yet she had only smiled.

I had felt a mix of emotions, touched by her gesture yet deeply saddened by the price she paid for it.

She had wiped away my tears with a soft laugh, calling me a child who never grew up.

We had made our birthday wishes together.

I had wished that our friendship would last forever and that we would finally become family.

She had wished for my brother and me to always be happy and healthy.

That night, we had clung to each other, swearing we would always remain best friends.

That we would marry, have children and watch our lives unfold side by side.

Yet now, with a single message, she had shattered everything.

How had everything changed overnight?

My thoughts were in turmoil and the bank card in my hand felt impossibly heavy as if it carried the weight of something far greater than money.

Heidi came from a poor family but had always been fiercely ambitious. When I first transferred to Sterling Heights University, I heard whispers from classmates that her parents were both disabled and she had a younger brother with cerebral palsy. She had clawed her way into university through sheer determination, her will stronger than steel.

I had first seen her in the cafeteria, sitting alone in the corner, her clothes faded and threadbare. She ate quietly, her meal nothing more than a bowl of free soup with plain rice.

I couldn’t stand watching.

So, I played it off, pretending the food was unbearable, pushing the chicken legs and braised pork from my plate toward her.

She had looked up, her eyes red-rimmed but shining with something fierce, something unyielding.

From that day on, the silent girl started looking after me in her own way, helping with my homework, fetching water and reserving seats in the library.

Our bond deepened with time, drawing us closer and closer until everything changed a year ago.

The car accident had been brutal. I barely clung to consciousness as I was rushed to the hospital, my body battered, my mind hazy.

The blood bank was running dangerously low. Without hesitation, Heidi rolled up her sleeve and gave what she could, never pausing to consider the toll on herself.

Then came the worst news: I had injured a kidney. While I struggled to process it, she was already begging the doctor to take one of hers, desperate to keep me from ever knowing, afraid I would drown in guilt.

But she didn’t realize this hospital belonged to my family. My parents knew everything from the moment I was admitted. There was no keeping secrets from them, no hiding her selfless act.

When I finally walked out of that hospital, I didn’t confront her, didn’t call out her reckless sacrifice. Instead, I made a silent vow that Heidi would be my sister from that day forward.

Perhaps kindness had a way of calling to kindness because my brother, deeply moved by her devotion, began to pursue her.
