My Husband Wanted Me on OnlyFans, So I Left Him for a Millionaire Model Chapter 1

I set my suitcase down by the bedroom door so quietly that neither of them heard it.

The bedside lamp was on. Its yellow circle fell across the rug and caught a pair of red stilettos, one standing, one tipped on its side like it had been kicked off in a hurry.

Then I saw the robe.

Champagne silk, wide sleeves, a thin lace trim at the collar. I'd bought it three weeks ago and hidden it in the back of my closet for our anniversary. Now it was wrapped around Sienna Marsh, Derek's new "brand consultant," and she was sitting up in my bed with her bare legs tangled in my sheets.

Derek shot upright. His shirt was gone, his belt hanging open.

"Claire. You said Thursday."

"My shoot wrapped early."

On the nightstand, his phone glowed face-up for once. I could read the notification from the doorway: *Subscription renewed — $49.99.* Under it, a creator's name and a tiny blurred thumbnail.

A week ago, he'd sat across from me at our kitchen table, swirling wine, using the soft voice he saved for when he wanted something.

*Babe, half the girls you photograph make more on OnlyFans in a month than you make all year. Just help me carry the company debt for a while. It's temporary.*

I'd laughed, thinking he was joking. He hadn't laughed back.

Six years ago, after my mother's funeral, I'd locked myself in her darkroom for two days. Derek found me there with developer staining my fingertips brown. He'd kissed each one and told me I'd never have to change a single thing about myself to make him happy.

Same mouth. I was finally seeing what else it could do. It could turn love into a price tag.

"That is my robe, Derek," I said. "And that is our bed."

Sienna tugged the silk tighter across her chest, but she didn't look sorry. She looked curious, like she was waiting to see if I'd cry.

"Okay," Derek said, holding up both hands. "Before you lose it—"

"I'm not losing anything."

I didn't cross the room. I didn't grab her hair. I took out my phone and opened the banking app we'd shared since the day we got married.

He'd stopped checking it months ago. He thought I had too.

I scrolled.

Creator subscriptions, four of them, recurring. The Solana Bay Resort in Miami, three nights, the same weekend he'd told me he was at a client summit in Atlanta. A deposit to a property management firm on East 64th Street. Then a charge from Celine on Madison Avenue for $3,200.

My eyes went to the floor by the bed. A cream-colored shopping bag sat there, Celine stamped in black across the side. Sienna's wrist was looped through the handle of a matching smaller one, like she'd been too excited to set it down.

Everything fit together. The phone he'd started leaving face-down at dinner. The anniversary reservation he'd canceled because of "a quarterly crunch." Every strange transfer he'd waved off as client maintenance.

"Miami," I said. "You told me Atlanta."

"It was a work trip."

"With a couples massage on the invoice?"

His jaw tightened. "Claire, it's my money too. I'm allowed a private life. Married people don't have to report every single purchase—"

"It's our money. You signed the papers saying so."

Sienna leaned over to the nightstand and picked up a shipping label that had come off one of her packages. She held it between two fingers and read it with a little smile.

"Forty-one Larkin Street," she said. "Isn't that your old house? He said you'd never go back there."

I knew that address. I'd painted the porch of that house myself. Derek had told me he'd rented it out to cover debt. So Sienna was getting packages at our old house while payments to Halcyon Property Group on East 64th Street came out of our account.

I looked at him. He looked at the wall.

"You called her rent a client expense," I said. "Which client sleeps in my sheets?"

Sienna laughed under her breath.

Derek swung his legs off the bed. "You're not doing this. You're not standing there acting like a prosecutor in my bedroom."

I didn't answer. I unzipped the outer pocket of my camera bag and lifted out my mother's old Pentax.

It was heavy and scratched and older than I was. She'd carried it to every wedding and graduation she ever shot. I raised it, framed the bed, the twisted sheets, the red heels, the two of them.

"Put that down," Derek said.

I found focus.

He moved faster than I expected. He grabbed the camera with both hands and wrenched it out of my grip, and before I could reach for it, he swung it hard against the marble top of my vanity.

The crack of metal on stone filled the room.

Something small and glass rolled across the floor and stopped against the toe of my boot. The lens. The front element had split in a clean diagonal line.

He tossed the body onto the vanity. On the back of it, a strip of yellowed tape had peeled loose at one corner. My mother's handwriting, in faded blue ink: *Property of Anne Dorsey.*

Sienna had gone quiet.

Derek was breathing hard, waiting for me to scream, to fall apart, to ask him whether he loved her.

I didn't give him any of it.

I bent down and picked up the lens. Then I walked to the vanity, lifted the camera, and pressed the corner of the label flat with my thumb until it held.

"Seriously?" he said. "That's what you care about right now? A broken camera?"

I kept my eyes on the tape.

"You want to know what your problem is, Claire? You're stubborn and broke and you think you have time. You don't." He laughed, short and ugly. "You are almost thirty. If you want money, put that body to work."

The room went very still.

Behind him, Sienna pulled her knees up and stared at the bag on her wrist.

I set the lens beside the camera. On the marble, where the Pentax had hit, there was a white chip shaped like a crescent.

I twisted off my wedding ring. It came loose easier than I'd thought it would. I placed it right on top of that white mark.

"What are you doing?" Derek asked.

I took out my phone and photographed the bed, the stilettos, the Celine bag, the shattered lens, the ring on the scarred marble. He took a step toward me, then stopped, like some part of him finally understood that touching me again would be a mistake.

I slid the camera and lens into the inside pocket of my coat. I didn't touch the jewelry box, the laptop, or the cash he kept in the closet safe. My lawyer had told me once, half-joking over drinks, that the woman who grabs everything on her way out is the one who ends up explaining herself in court.

I picked up my suitcase. It was the same one I'd walked in with.

In the hallway, the door clicked shut behind me. I held my phone to my mouth and pressed record.

"Vera, it's Claire. I need you to preserve the records on our joint account starting tonight. Everything going back a year. I've got photos from the bedroom, timestamped. I'll send them now. I'm filing."

I hit send.

The apartment door flew open. Derek stood in the frame, still shirtless, his face red.

"You think you're going somewhere? Look at you. No rich man is going to want a woman I threw away."

I pushed the elevator button. It lit up under my finger.

"You can keep the bed," I said. "My lawyer gets the rest."

His mouth opened, but the elevator chimed before he found anything to say.

As the doors slid closed, my phone buzzed in my hand.

*Scheduled transfer: $4,850 to Halcyon Property Group — East 64th St. Processing on the 1st.*

Sienna's next month of rent, already lined up from our account.

I watched my reflection in the steel doors, the coat pocket weighed down by my mother's broken camera, and took a screenshot.

My marriage was over.

But I was only just starting to collect evidence.
