Chapter 4

"Tsk!"

Campbell Watson's lips curled into a disdainful smirk. Despite facing three handguns, he remained calm and composed.

His unflinching demeanor made the bald thug feel a sudden wave of unease. Anyone who could stay this calm while being held at gunpoint was either a fool or someone so formidable that they didn't fear bullets or blades. Clearly, Campbell wasn't a fool...

"I'll ask you one question. Answer it well, and I might consider letting you go. If your answer displeases me, I won't hesitate to send you to join your buddy," Campbell said, tossing a small pebble in his hand and squinting his eyes.

As he spoke, he walked closer to the three kidnappers, closing the distance between them.

An invisible pressure emanated from him, making the air around them feel heavy and oppressive.

If he didn't want to find out who had hired them, these three would already be corpses...

"Step any closer, and I'll blow your head off!" the third thug shouted, his voice betraying his fear. His hand, trembling, tightened on the trigger.

"You're shaking so much, you might accidentally fire," Campbell mocked, his lips curling into a sneer.

With a swift flick of his wrist, the pebbles in his hand shot out with a sharp whistle, moving at incredible speed.

Before the three kidnappers could react, the pebbles struck theiracupressure points precisely, rendering them immobile.

The three kidnappers' wrists went numb, losing their strength, and their guns fell to the ground.

"Dammit, die already..."

The third kidnapper hesitated for a moment, then suddenly pulled out another gun from behind his waist. He liked to play with dual guns, so he often carried two.

Campbell Watson didn't expect the guy to have another gun, but he wasn't going to give him the chance to use it.

As soon as the third kidnapper drew his gun, Campbell charged at him. When he moved, he was like a fierce tiger descending the mountain, exuding an overwhelming and destructive killing intent.

Although these kidnappers had some skills, they were no match for Campbell, a martial arts master who had cultivated inner strength.

Locked onto by Campbell's killing intent, the third kidnapper felt like he was being targeted by a prehistoric beast. The terrifying sense of impending death made his heart race, his hair stand on end, and his movements freeze.

In that split second, Campbell was already in front of him. With a hand as strong as steel, he grabbed the man's throat.

Crack.

Without a word, Campbell snapped the third kidnapper's neck, killing him instantly.

As the body fell limply to the ground, Campbell returned to his original spot, calmly lighting a cigarette, his expression cold and indifferent.

The bald thug glanced at the lifeless body of his comrade, his Adam's apple bobbing, cold sweat dripping from his forehead, and his hand trembling as he held his gun.

The killing intent Campbell had just displayed made him feel like he was in an ice-cold abyss, utterly terrified.

Even from his boss, he had never felt such a terrifying killing intent.

It reminded him of the time he encountered a demon-level higher-up in the organization. That higher-up had a similarly horrifying aura.

As an outer member, he was like an ant in the eyes of such a demon-level figure, someone he could only look up to.

The young man before him was a top-notch expert, comparable to the demon-level higher-ups in the organization.

The gap in their strength was too vast.

Even though he had a gun, he didn't dare to make a single move.

"What do you want to know?" The bald man swallowed hard, asking cautiously.

He was scared.

Thugs like them were ruthless when facing the weak, but when confronted with someone stronger, they were more afraid of death than anyone else.

"Who is your employer?" Campbell Watson exhaled a ring of smoke, asking calmly.

"I-I don't know..." The bald man shook his head, fearing the other wouldn't believe him, and quickly explained.

"I really don't know. Our boss is the one who takes the jobs and makes the plans. We just follow orders... We don't know anything else."

Another thug, the fourth in rank, was also terrified, nodding frantically on the side: "Even the target, we only find out an hour before the mission..."

"Oh? Is that so? Then where is your boss?"

Campbell's sharp gaze, like a knife, scrutinized the bald man and the fourth thug.

The two men were terrified, cold sweat dripping down their backs, not daring to make a sound.

It seemed like the person standing before them wasn't a man but a grim reaper from hell, ready to take their lives with ease.

"N-No, we don't know... The boss moves around a lot, we really don't know..."

The two kidnappers shook their heads vigorously, sweat pouring down like rain, their eyes filled with fear and pleading.

"Oh... In that case, you have no value left to live."

Before Campbell Watson finished his sentence, he suddenly pushed off with his legs, shooting forward like an arrow leaving the bow. His speed was so fast that it created a thunderous roar in the air.

The two kidnappers didn't even have time to react before they felt a tremendous force hit them, sending them flying. The world spun around them, and then everything went black as they lost consciousness...

Thud! Thud!

Two bodies fell from the height, kicking up dust.

Their chests were caved in, blood and flesh mangled, already lifeless.

At this moment, the last syllable of Campbell's sentence finally left his mouth.

Campbell looked at the three bodies on the ground, his face expressionless. From the moment he appeared, the fate of these kidnappers had been sealed.

Creak.

Campbell turned to untie the ropes binding Promise when a screeching sound of brakes came from outside the yard.

Next came the sound of a car door closing and the gate being pushed open.

A flurry of hurried footsteps approached the main house.

Campbell Watson reacted quickly, erasing any traces of his presence and swiftly slipping into the side hall. He crouched by the window, hiding behind a pile of clutter.

Just as he concealed himself, a well-dressed young man pushed the door open and entered.

The young man had sharp features, a sinister look, and a menacing aura around his eyes, clearly not someone to be trifled with.

"Holy crap, they're dead?"

The young man was shocked to see three bodies on the floor, his face turning pale.

After composing himself, he picked up a handgun from the ground, cautiously scanning the room. Finding nothing suspicious, he quickly moved toward Promise Nelson, who was tied to a wooden post.

Though he didn't know why the kidnappers were dead, he had more pressing matters to attend to.

"Promise, Promise..." The young man grabbed Promise Nelson's shoulders, shaking her forcefully.

"Ugh..."

Promise Nelson groaned, her delicate brows furrowing. Her head drooped and swayed, her beautiful eyes fluttering as she showed signs of waking up.

"Promise Nelson, don't blame me. Only if you die can I become the true heir of SkyRise Corporation."

Seeing her about to wake up, the young man's expression twisted with malice. His eyes gleamed with a savage light as he raised his right hand, aiming the gun at Promise Nelson's head.

He disengaged the safety and slowly applied pressure to the trigger.

His eyes flashed with a crazed intent to kill...

Campbell Watson, who had been watching closely, felt a surge of murderous intent and was about to make his move when suddenly, the sound of police sirens blared outside.

"Well, they sure know how to time it. Not as dumb as I thought," Campbell muttered under his breath, pulling back behind the clutter.

Bang, bang, bang...

Car doors slammed shut, and the sound of footsteps rapidly approached the warehouse.

The young man, who had been snarling moments before, suddenly became panicked and flustered, not knowing what to do.

Cops? How could there be cops in such a remote place?

The young man was stunned. Killing Promise Nelson was now the last thing on his mind.

He quickly took out a handkerchief to wipe his fingerprints off the gun and shoved it into the hand of one of the corpses. Then, he took a deep breath, rubbed his face vigorously, and tried to put on a look of extreme urgency as he pretended to untie Promise from the wooden post.

"Bang."

At that moment, the door was violently kicked open, the two halves of the door hanging precariously from the frame, creaking as if they could fall at any moment.

Brooke, covered in a thick layer of dust, stormed in with a menacing aura.

"You bastard, come out now! I know you're hiding here..." Brooke shouted, but immediately fell silent.

She had seen the three corpses on the ground and the woman tied to the wooden post.

"Police! Don't move! Hands on your head and get on the ground, or I'll shoot!" Brooke quickly aimed her gun at the young man who was untying the ropes, shouting sternly.

"What the hell is going on here?"

The two male officers following Brooke saw the three bodies and the three American handguns on the ground. They were shocked and immediately realized the gravity of the situation. They quickly drew their guns and called the city's criminal investigation unit.

These two male officers were members of the criminal investigation unit. They had received a call for help from Brooke and, having nothing else to do, decided to accompany her to catch a thief. They wanted to see who had the guts to mess with the police force's toughest officer, but they hadn't expected to stumble upon a shooting-related homicide.

A shooting case was a big deal.

"Wait, wait... This is a misunderstanding... I'm not a bad guy. I'm Berloff Nelson, the general manager of SkyRise Corporation.

This person who was kidnapped is our president, Promise Nelson. I..."

"I don't care who you are. Now, put your hands on your head and get on the ground immediately," Brooke interrupted the young man's explanation, warning him sternly once more.

"Don't, don't shoot! I'm getting down, I'm getting down..."

The young man, staring at the dark barrel of the gun, felt a chill run down his spine. He obediently put his hands on his head and squatted down.

One of the male officers immediately rushed over, handcuffed the young man, and pushed him aside. The other officer, while keeping an eye on the surroundings, slowly approached to examine the three bodies.

One had his throat crushed to death, and the other two had their chest bones shattered, internal organs ruptured, as if they had been hit by a truck. Their deaths were gruesome.

The officer inspecting the bodies couldn't help but take a sharp breath, his eyes showing a trace of shock.

Preliminary estimates suggested that the three men hadn't even had a chance to fire their guns before they were killed in one blow.

The perpetrator was no ordinary person!
