Chapter 4

Dora marched ahead, dragging me by my hair. My maternity dress was torn to shreds by the rough playground surface, leaving my skin raw and bleeding.

When we reached the middle of the field, a crowd of students gathered around us, forming a tight circle. The faces that used to smile and call me “teacher” now looked at me with contempt and disgust.

I tried to shield my face with my hands, clinging to whatever dignity I had left, but Dora roughly shoved me aside. Every breath sent sharp pain through my abdomen.

Dora shoved her camera in my face and shouted, “Look at your teacher here! She’s been seducing men all over school! She’s blown all the money for my son’s study abroad, and the school’s only response was to fire her! I’m going to make sure she’s banned from education for good! How can someone like her even be a teacher? What could she possibly teach you?”

She glared at me, her eyes dark with anger. “Don’t say I didn’t give you a chance. Kneel down and admit you were wrong. Apologize for accusing my husband and promise to pay back the money for my son’s education, and maybe I’ll let you off the hook!”

I glared back at her, my mind a storm of rage. Just as I was about to respond, I saw a familiar figure pushing through the crowd.

Dora’s lips curled into a satisfied grin.

My husband, Alexander, stood in front of me with a stony face. I felt a wave of helplessness and reached out to him, but he coldly knocked my hand away.

He said, “You said you were being harassed by your boss, and I believed you until today. But how do you explain this—” He pulled out his phone and showed me a video that was circulating everywhere.

In the video, I was in the school’s staff dorm, changing clothes and smiling.

My eyes widened in shock, and I shook my head frantically.

He continued, his voice icy, “This video is from you. You sent it to that man yourself! Elena, what’s the real story here?”

I remembered when the water pipe burst and David offered to fix it. That must have been when he installed a camera in my dorm.

A shiver ran down my spine as I realized this, and I desperately tried to explain, but the pain in my abdomen flared up.

I bent over, clutching my stomach, and reached for his shoes. “Please, take me to the hospital. I’ll explain everything when I’m better. I’m in so much pain…”

He callously kicked my hand away and said, “I’m not here to take you to the hospital. I’m here to file for divorce. As for the child, let the biological father handle that. I’ve done all I can.”

Without another word, he turned and walked away, leaving me behind. No matter how much I pleaded, I couldn’t stop him from walking out of my life.

The crowd around us whispered in sympathy.

Dora clapped her hands with glee. “Even your husband sees your true colors now. Still not admitting it?”

The pain in my stomach was unbearable, and my words tumbled out in a rush. “True colors? My true colors are those of a victim of your husband’s harassment! He’s the real monster here! Plenty of teachers at this school can vouch for me. You and your husband have destroyed my life, and you’ll get what you deserve!”

Dora’s face turned a furious shade of red as she handed the phone with the live stream to a relative and stormed toward me. Without a moment’s hesitation, she threw herself on top of me, pressing down hard on my already agonized abdomen.

The pain was excruciating, making me cry out helplessly. Not a single person around us showed any sign of sympathy.

Dora pounded my head with both hands, her voice cracking with fury. “You think you can get away with this? Even if I have to die, I’m taking you and that bastard child of yours down with me!”

“You’re still so defiant, thinking I can’t do anything to you! Today, it’s either you or me who’s going down!”

“You’re pregnant, yet you’re still trying to seduce my husband with those filthy photos? Don’t blame me for what happens next!”

As she finished shouting, someone from the crowd tossed her a soccer ball. Dora’s eyes sparkled with malicious glee.

She got up off me, lifted my maternity dress, and exposed my rounded belly. Without a second thought, she placed the soccer ball against my stomach and pushed it down hard.

But she wasn’t done. She put her full weight on the ball, increasing the pressure. The pain was unbearable, and I screamed out in agony.

Blood began to flow from beneath me, but all I could see was the cold, indifferent camera lens. My vision blurred, and my consciousness started to fade.

Just before I completely lost awareness, I saw a group of female teachers, who had also been harassed, along with some leaders, coming toward us. “Stop this! The investigation team is here! What are you doing?!”
