Chapter 3

The forest blurred around me as I ran, my lungs burning with each desperate breath. Freedom was just beyond the territory border—a chance to reach Shadowmere, to find my daughter before Logan and Alicia could harm her.

"Stop her!" A command echoed through the trees behind me.

I pushed harder, my wolf surging beneath my skin, begging to break free. Just a little farther—

A wall of muscle and fur slammed into me from the left, sending me sprawling across the forest floor. Pain shot through my shoulder as two Beta warriors pinned me down, their massive bodies crushing my limbs into the damp earth.

"Luna Rosemary," one of them growled, his voice strained with the effort of restraining me. "Alpha commands you return to the pack house immediately."

"I'm not your Luna anymore," I snarled, twisting against their grip. "Not after what he's done."

Another warrior approached, his expression grim. "Alpha Logan says you're emotionally unstable. That you can't be trusted to make rational decisions right now."

"Emotionally unstable?" I laughed bitterly. "Is that what he's calling it when a mother tries to save her child?"

The warrior wouldn't meet my eyes. "Please, Luna. Don't make this harder than it needs to be."

I felt it then—the mate bond tugging at my consciousness, Logan's voice slithering through our connection.

*Rosemary, return to the pack house now.*

His Alpha command hit me like a physical blow, making my body betray me even as my mind screamed in rebellion.

*You can't keep me prisoner!* I fought against his influence.

*I'm protecting you from yourself,* came his cold reply. *The decision is made. Our daughter will serve the pack as needed.*

---

I stood in the doorway of what had been my bedroom for three years, watching as pack members carried Alicia's belongings inside. Her scent already permeated the space—vanilla and jasmine replacing my own subtle rosemary fragrance.

"This is my room," I said quietly to no one in particular.

Alicia appeared behind me, her hand resting possessively on my shoulder. "Not anymore, dear. Logan thought it best if I took over the Luna quarters immediately."

"Immediately," I repeated numbly.

"Given the... circumstances." Her smile was razor-sharp. "I've already arranged for your things to be moved to the east guest room. It's quite comfortable there, I assure you."

I watched as she directed the pack members to hang her clothes in my closet, to place her jewelry box on my dresser. Each item she added felt like another nail in the coffin of my life here.

"Oh, and Logan wants you to join us for dinner tonight," she added casually. "A formal affair. I've invited the entire pack leadership to welcome me properly."

---

The dining hall fell silent as I entered. Every seat at the head table was filled except one—not mine, but Alicia's. She sat in my chair, her golden hair cascading over shoulders draped in a dress that matched the Luna's ceremonial colors.

"Rosemary," Logan acknowledged me with cool politeness. "Please, take a seat."

The only available chair was three tables away, among the lowest-ranking pack members. I felt dozens of eyes tracking my movement as I walked the length of the hall, my back straight despite the humiliation burning through me.

"Thank you all for coming tonight," Alicia's voice rang out once I'd sat down. "As you know, there have been some... changes in our pack leadership."

Murmurs rippled through the crowd.

"It's important to remember," she continued, her eyes finding mine across the room, "that pack strength comes from proper bloodlines. A Luna who cannot produce strong heirs is merely a temporary placeholder."

Several pack members shifted uncomfortably, their loyalties visibly torn. Three years of serving them, caring for them—and yet they remained silent as Alicia dismantled my life piece by piece.

---

The pack gardens had always been my sanctuary. Now, as twilight settled over the roses, I found a moment of peace to collect myself.

Something felt different. A sensitivity in my senses I hadn't noticed before. The flowers seemed brighter, their scents more vivid. And beneath it all—a tiny flutter of life.

I gasped, my hand flying to my stomach as realization dawned. Another pup. Growing inside me even now.

Hope bloomed in my chest for the first time since discovering Emma's fate. Perhaps this would change everything. Perhaps Logan would remember our bond, our family.

I found him in his office, Alicia perched on the edge of his desk like she belonged there.

"Logan," I said urgently. "I need to speak with you."

He sighed, dismissing Alicia with a gesture. "What is it now, Rosemary?"

"I'm pregnant," I announced, my voice steady despite my racing heart. "We're going to have another child."

The silence that followed was deafening.

Finally, Logan's eyes met mine—cold and distant as a winter sky.

"I reject this mating," he said formally, his voice carrying the weight of Alpha command. "Any pup conceived from this point forward is illegitimate in the eyes of this pack."

The world seemed to tilt beneath my feet. "What?"

"This pup will not be recognized as mine," he continued, his eyes flashing with dominance. "If you insist on carrying it to term, it will be sent to rogue territory at birth—just as Emma was."

Just as Emma was. The words echoed in my head as my world collapsed for the second time in as many days.
