Chapter 1

My fiancée asked me to sit in the back of the car on the wedding day because her assistant was feeling motion sickness.

I was the groom, yet I couldn’t even sit in the front car. I had never heard of such a thing.

I asked my future mother-in-law, Helena Rouen and brother-in-law, Isodore Orfanel, for help, but they were surprisingly in agreement and urged me to be magnanimous.

My relatives and friends were all waiting to see me make a fool of myself, especially those jealous colleagues who had already filmed videos ready to mock me.

I directly got into Jeanne’s car passenger seat and said, “You said you didn’t want me to marry someone else, so are we going to register our marriage now?”

Jeanne was thrilled and said, “Yes, of course we are!”

Upon learning that I had already registered my marriage with someone else, my former fiancée’s family panicked.

——

I got up early today and finally completed all the wedding rituals.

Just as I was about to get into the wedding car, Karina Orfanel pulled me back.

“Wait a moment. You sit in the back of the car.”

I didn’t react at first.

“What?”

“Lambert gets motion sickness. He has to sit in the front. Just make a small sacrifice. The journey isn’t that long anyway.”

“Karina, today is a big day for the two of us. I’m the groom. I should sit in the back and the assistant can sit with you in the front. Do you think that’s appropriate?”

“Besides, when people get motion sickness, they usually need to open the window, or at least sit in the front passenger seat. I’ve never heard of someone needing to sit in the front seat because they get motion sickness.”

Lambert Wegel couldn’t hide his smugness.

“I’m sorry, Michael. My condition is a bit special. Ms. Orfanelis worried about me, so she insisted that I sit with her in the front.”

“I don’t want too either. After all, it’s not proper.”

I was about to explode.

“You know it’s not proper.”

But with so many relatives and friends present, I held back my anger and tried to speak to him in a calm tone.

“The front car is always for the groom and bride. If you let Lambert sit with you, people will think you’re marrying him.”

“Why care so much about what others think? The relatives and friends here today know who I’m marrying.”

Seeing that talking to her was useless, I went straight to her mother.

“Mom, Karina insists on having her assistant sit in the front car with her and wants me to find a car in the back.”

Before her mother could speak, her younger brother came over.

“Michael, if my sister told you to sit in the back seat, just sit there. It’s no big deal. Why bother coming to Mom to complain?”

“My daughter is so busy with work. She needs to keep her assistant by her side at all times. In case there’s work to handle on the way, it’s more convenient for them to be together.”

“You two are going to be husband and wife in the future, so just be more tolerant and understanding.”

Karina had already opened the door of the first car for Lambert and watched him get in.

The relatives and friends around us were all discussing it. Some were surprised and dissatisfied, but most were just gloating and waiting to see me make a fool of myself.

A few colleagues who had never gotten along with me at the company didn’t bother pretending anymore and directly pulled out their phones to take photos of the first car and me.

While filming, they commented, “The arrogant man who forced the marriage is getting his comeuppance. Although Karina agreed to marry him, she didn’t even let him sit in the first car.”

“Our Lambert is Karina’s true love. Even if the scummy guy, Michael succeeded in forcing the marriage, what can he do now? He doesn’t even have the right to ride in the wedding car with Karina!”

They kept saying more and more hurtful things and I couldn’t help but shout.

“Shut up!”

They reluctantly put away their phones.

“Michael, even if you used underhanded means to make Karina marry you, you still can’t compare to Lambert’s status in Karina’s heart!”

“Exactly. If I were you, I wouldn’t get married today. If you have any self-respect, just go home right now!”
