Chapter 1

My husband, Roy Aniston, won five million dollars in the lottery, but he didn't tell me. He shared the news with the whole family and even his ex-lover.

He bought gifts for everyone and took a day off to accompany his ex-lover for a private photoshoot worth five thousand.

Little did he know his mother, Freya Aniston, was kidnapped for being too ostentatious. Terrified of implicating her son, she left my number.

"Jennifer, I've been kidnapped! They're demanding 2 million in ransom. Hurry, get the money and save me!" Freya's voice trembled over the phone.

I was on a business trip and didn't understand how an ordinary person like her could be kidnapped. Despite this, I immediately called my husband.

When he answered, his ex-lover's flirtatious voice echoed, "Oh, this dress is too tight, Roy, could you help me take it off..."

Interrupting, I urged, "Roy, your mother has been kidnapped! You need to go save her!"

Roy coldly responded, "What a ridiculous story in this day and age. How boring!"

He hung up, prompting me to rush back from my trip.

At the train station, I saw on the news that the kidnappers had harmed Freya.

Later, I discovered that not only had my husband cheated, but he had also won five million in the lottery, not intending to share a penny with me.

.....

On the fifth day of my business trip to Costaland, I received a call from an unknown number. It was Freya in a panic.

"Jennifer, I've been kidnapped!

"They're demanding 2 million in ransom. Hurry, get the money and save me!"

Initially thinking it was a prank, I tried calling Freya back but couldn't reach her.

Realizing the seriousness, I called the unknown number.

Freya's voice sounded more urgent. "Jennifer, why haven't you arranged the money yet? They said if the money doesn't arrive soon, they'll chop my hands and feet!"

I asked for her location and details of the kidnapping, but Freya hesitated and abruptly ended the call.

Stuck on my business trip in a secure hotel, I couldn't leave immediately.

Making sure it wasn't a prank by Freya, I didn't dwell on the oddities and quickly called my husband.

His ex-lover's voice answered, "Oh, this dress is too tight, Roy, could you help me take it off..."

"Ah, this dress is too tight, Si Huai, help me take it off..."

Roy chuckled softly in response. The two were just about to exchange intimate whispers.

Interrupting, I repeated the urgent situation. "Roy, your mother has been kidnapped! You need to go save her!"

Roy coldly dismissed it as nonsense, frustrating me. "What a ridiculous story in this day and age. How boring!"

After the call got abruptly cut off, I persistently dialed Roy's number a few more times until he finally picked up.

His tone was laced with impatience as he barked, "Jennifer, can you stop being so childish? It's just about not getting you a gift on our anniversary, I already said I forgot, how long are you going to keep this up?"

His voice boomed from the phone, startling a passing colleague.

Concerned, they asked, "Jennifer, are you okay?"

I shook my head, and only then did my colleague leave, reassured.

Alone in the hotel corridor, the chill in the air matched the coldness in Roy's impatient words.

In the past, I had been away on a business trip for five days, and Roy and I had been at odds for two weeks. He was well aware of how much our anniversary meant to me, so I would have been unhappy if he hadn't prepared a gift.

Yet, he carried on as if it was all expected.

Ironically, he now grew impatient and blamed me for being unreasonable.

Amidst this emotional turmoil, the urgent memory of Freya's distress call pierced through. Taking a deep breath, I calmly relayed to Roy.

"I wasn't causing a scene. Just now, Freya called me from an unknown number, saying she's been kidnapped and they're demanding two million in ransom!"
