Chapter 3

No one in my grandma's family liked me. My uncle had asked my mom countless times to send me back. One time, I overheard a conversation between my uncle and my mom.

My uncle, who was tall and had a tough demeanor, said to my mom, "You quit such a good job and moved back home, and you are still afraid that little brat won't be comfortable? You are wasting your time here!"

My mom's hair was fluffy, and there were still bits of cotton debris on her eyelashes that hadn't been cleaned up: "Nathan is a proud and tough child. If I move back, he will be living in others' home. You and our mom don't like him because of his dad, not to mention causing trouble for your wife. This way is better. I will raise the two of us with my own hands."

Uncle sighed, gave mom a big red envelope and walked away. Seeing me eavesdropping outside, Uncle gave me a disdainful look.

I made a face at his back. Since I was little, I knew he was not a good person. Mom had taken back my custody, but he still wanted my mom to send me away.

Well, I'm still young now. When I grow up a little more, I'll leave on my own without you telling me.

Mom didn't let me idle either. On days when I didn't go to school, she gave me a pair of big scissors and let me sit under the sun to cut open the old quilts that people wanted to use.

The quilts were thick and heavy. Some people's quilt cores were even black and smelly. Mom asked me to cut the cotton into strips so that they could be easily put into the machine.

My hands were small and I didn't know how to use force. The skin on my tiger's mouth would often be worn out. At this time, mom would coldly throw me a band-aid and say coldly, "This is the consequence of forgetting to wear gloves."

She had always been cold and sarcastic to me. She despised me for being a child of my dad's family. She said I looked like my dad and that I would grow up to become a heartless and unfaithful man.

I was not weak either. I said she was as fat as a pig and that it was the right choice for my dad to leave her.

At that time, our lives were too bitter and too tiring. We always took the closest people around us as punching bags.

When she asked me to cut open three more quilts, I exploded and asked, "Why can my classmates go to the basketball court? Why does everyone have the latest camera, but I'm already in my second year of high school and have nothing? Every day after school, I have to stay at home and do these dirty and meaningless chores with you."

She put the cotton seeds into the bag while wiping the sweat off her forehead: "Because you have a tough life."

She looked indifferent, her hands never stopped putting the cotton seeds into the bag, glanced at me: "You can't go anywhere today. The three quilts will be picked up in the afternoon, and the cotton seeds collector will come in the evening. If we don't finish these, we won't even have dinner."

The more I looked at her cold expression, the more uncomfortable I felt in my heart, "You don't love me, you're not good to me, why do you want me?"

"My father's family lives in a mansion and drives luxury cars. If it weren't for you, I would be a pampered young master. Why do I have to suffer with you?"

My mom, who was busy putting the cotton seeds, walked towards me with trembling lips, unbelievably. As she walked away, the bag of cotton seeds that had just been filled but not tied up fell over, and the cotton seeds inside scattered like the words I couldn't take back.

My mom didn't look at those cotton seeds again, she walked up to me: "You want to be the young master of your dad's family, right?"

I raised my head high and said defiantly: "My dad's new wife is gentle and slim, she dresses beautifully every day. My mom should be like that, not like you, who is so mean, fat, and always makes me suffer."

My mom raised her hand, and I thought I was going to get beaten as usual, but this time my mom put her hand down and smiled.

Her bitter face showed a strange smile: "So you want to be that woman's child?"

I stood up and shouted boldly: "Yes, yes, yes! I've had enough of you, you always treating me like I owe you a million dollars. I'm going to my dad's house, and I'm going to tell him how lucky he is to have left you."

She didn't say anything, gave me an address, a phone number, and 500 dollars, and gently touched my head, saying, "Go, go find your dad."

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the stack of money. "You really let me go find my dad?"

The second abandonment

She nodded and smiled, telling me to call her when I arrived so that she knew I was safe.
