Chapter 5

LYRA

The guest chamber Ivy and I were given in the Golden Dusk Pack was quiet, but my mind wasn’t. Sleep evaded me, and every time I closed my eyes, the weight of Damon’s words echoed in my head. Be my Luna.

Ivy sat beside me on the edge of the bed, her hand gently squeezing mine. “You don’t have to decide right now,” she whispered, her voice soothing. “But you can’t let fear hold you back, Lyra. Damon’s offer isn’t just about survival—it’s a chance to reclaim your power.”

I exhaled shakily. “But what if I’m stepping into another cage, Ivy? What if this is just another way for someone else to control me?”

Ivy’s golden eyes softened, her loyalty unwavering. “Then you break the bars, Lyra. You’re stronger than anyone who’s tried to chain you. Damon may be an Alpha, but he’s not your enemy. This time, you’ll be the one calling the shots.”

Her words struck a chord. My betrayal still burned, but beneath it, a simmering determination began to take root. I couldn’t afford to falter now—not after everything I’d lost.

The sun rose far too soon, its light spilling through the thick curtains and forcing me out of restless thoughts. Ivy nudged me awake with a knowing look, her presence a steadying force.

“Let’s go?” she said simply.

Damon was already waiting for me in the council hall when I arrived. His piercing blue eyes followed me as I entered, his stance composed yet undeniably commanding. The weight of his authority filled the room, but I refused to let it overwhelm me.

“You’ve come,” he said, his voice a low rumble.

“I have questions before I agree to anything,” I replied, meeting his gaze head-on. Astra growled approvingly in my mind, proud of my resolve.

Damon inclined his head, a faint smirk tugging at his lips. “Ask.”

I stepped closer, my fists clenched at my sides. “Why me? You could have chosen anyone to be your Luna, someone with ties to your pack. Why would you risk aligning yourself with an outcast from the Red Crescent Pack?”

His smirk faded, replaced by something colder, more calculating. “Because you’re not just an outcast. You’re an Alpha’s daughter. You carry power in your blood, even if your pack was too blind to see it. My pack needs a leader who can stand beside me, not cower behind me.”

His words hit their mark, igniting something fierce within me. “And what do you expect in return?”

“Your loyalty. Your strength. Nothing less,” he said, stepping closer. “This isn’t about control, Lyra. It’s about rebuilding. My pack needs stability, and you need protection. Together, we can have both.”

The air between us grew tense, his wolf pressing against mine in an unspoken challenge. But instead of backing down, Astra rose to meet him, our combined defiance filling the space.

“Fine,” I said, my voice steady. “I’ll marry you. But I won’t be a silent partner. If this is an alliance, I expect to have an equal say in every decision.”

Damon’s lips curved into a satisfied smile; his approval palpable. “Agreed.”

The ceremony happened faster than I anticipated. That same evening, the entire Golden Dusk Pack gathered in the moonlit clearing, the weight of their stares pressing down on me. Ivy stood beside me, her hand a comforting presence on my arm.

Damon stepped forward, his presence commanding absolute silence. His wolf, massive and golden-eyed, loomed just beneath his skin, radiating dominance. I squared my shoulders, refusing to shrink beneath his gaze.

“Tonight, we seal a bond that will unite our futures,” Damon announced, his voice carrying through the crowd. “Lyra, daughter of the Red Crescent Pack, will become my Luna. Together, we will rebuild what has been lost and forge something stronger.”

Murmurs rippled through the pack, but no one dared question his decision. I took a deep breath and stepped forward, standing beside Damon as the pack watched.

The ritual began with the binding of our hands, a golden cord entwined around our wrists. Damon’s hand was warm against mine, his grip firm yet not unkind.

“Do you accept this bond, Lyra?” The elder officiating the ceremony asked, her voice steady.

“I do,” I said, my voice unwavering despite the storm raging within me.

“And you, Damon?”

“I do,” he replied, his tone resolute.

The cord between us burned briefly, sealing the bond with a flare of golden light. The pack howled in unison, their voices carrying the weight of their acceptance—or perhaps their resignation.

I glanced at Damon, his expression unreadable. The tension between us was undeniable, a mix of unspoken challenges and tentative trust.

As the howls faded, Damon leaned closer, his breath warm against my ear. “This is only the beginning, Lyra. Prove to me you’re as strong as you claim to be.”

Before I could respond, a low growl echoed from the shadows, cutting through the celebration like a knife. The crowd stilled, their joy giving way to unease. Damon’s wolf flared in his eyes as he stepped in front of me, his voice a sharp command.

“Stay behind me,” he ordered.

A figure emerged from the darkness; their scent unmistakable. My blood turned to ice as recognition dawned.
