Chapter 3

The doorbell rang with an urgency that made my heart skip. I knew who it was before I even opened the door.

"Michelle Bell?" The Lycan Royal Court messenger stood tall, his uniform crisp and official. "These documents require immediate delivery to Alpha Anthony Richardson."

I accepted the thick envelope, my fingers steady despite the storm brewing inside me. "I'll ensure he receives them."

The messenger nodded solemnly. "The court expects his response within forty-eight hours."

As soon as he left, I leaned against the doorframe, clutching the envelope. Inside were the legal papers for mate bond dissolution and territorial division—papers that would change everything.

I didn't have to wait long.

"Michelle!" Anthony's voice thundered through the pack house less than an hour later. He stormed into the living room, his face contorted with rage, eyes flashing gold. "What the hell is this?"

I stood my ground in the center of my newly secured territory—the pack house now legally mine. "It's exactly what it looks like."

"You're trying to dissolve our mate bond?" He laughed, a harsh sound devoid of humor. "You think you can take half my territory?"

"I'm not taking anything," I replied calmly. "I'm claiming what's rightfully mine after your deception."

His eyes narrowed dangerously. "You will withdraw this case," he growled, his Alpha tone vibrating through the air. "Now."

The command hit me like a physical wave, but something had changed. My wolf rose within me, meeting his challenge with a strength I hadn't known I possessed.

"No," I said simply.

Anthony's face darkened with fury. "You forget your place," he snarled, stepping closer. "I am your Alpha. Your mate."

"You're a fraud," I countered, my voice steady despite my racing heart. "And I have proof."

"I'll reject you first," he threatened, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. "I'll turn the entire pack against you. They'll see you as the ungrateful Luna who abandoned her weakened Alpha."

Before I could respond, the door opened behind him. The temperature in the room seemed to drop as Judson stepped inside, his presence filling the space with undeniable authority.

"That's enough, Anthony," Judson said, his voice cold and precise.

Anthony whirled around, his confidence faltering as he took in Judson's imposing figure. "This doesn't concern you, Prince Ward."

Judson's eyes flashed amber, his Lycan Prince aura flooding the room with such overwhelming dominance that Anthony physically staggered back.

"Threatening a client of the Lycan Royal Court is a serious offense," Judson stated, each word measured and deadly. "Any further harassment will result in additional charges."

Anthony's face drained of color as he struggled to maintain his composure. Without another word, he retreated, the door slamming behind him.

---

Over the next month, Judson and I spent countless hours preparing for the case. Each evening in his office became a ritual—documents spread across his desk, our voices low as we reviewed evidence and testimony.

"Look at this," he said one night, sliding a financial record toward me. "Anthony diverted pack funds to Yasmin's personal account the same day you discovered her pregnancy."

I leaned closer, our shoulders brushing. "He was already planning their future together."

Judson's hand stilled on the document, his eyes meeting mine. Something electric passed between us—a current of understanding that went beyond our professional relationship.

During a break, I wandered to his bookshelf, noticing several ancient texts on mate bonds.

"Second Chance Mates," I read aloud from one leather-bound volume. "Ancient Mate Bonds: Separation and Reunion."

Judson appeared beside me, his scent of cedar and rain enveloping me. "I've been researching," he admitted quietly.

"Why?" I asked, turning to face him.

His eyes held mine with an intensity that made my breath catch. "I once met my true mate," he said, his voice rough with emotion. "But circumstances forced us apart."

The vulnerability in his voice made my heart ache. "What happened?"

"She was young," he said simply. "Too young for the bond to take hold properly. And I had... royal duties that couldn't wait."

I found myself reaching for his hand without thinking. "I'm sorry."

His fingers intertwined with mine, warm and strong. "I'm researching how fated bonds can survive separation and time."

I thought of Anthony's betrayal, of the mate bond I'd thought was sacred. "Is it possible?"

Judson's thumb traced circles on my palm. "True mate bonds are real," he promised. "And they're sacred—when they're genuine."

The warmth of his touch spread through me, melting something cold that had settled in my chest after Anthony's betrayal.

---

The Lycan Royal Court buzzed with tension as I took my seat beside Judson. The courtroom was packed—Alpha misconduct cases were rare and significant.

"Are you ready?" Judson asked quietly.

I nodded, my eyes fixed on the front of the courtroom where Lycan Queen Diana Ward sat with her council of high-ranking Alphas.

Judson rose to present his opening argument, his voice commanding immediate attention. "This case is about systematic deception," he began, his words precise and devastating. "Alpha Anthony Richardson manipulated his mate bond with Luna Michelle Bell for personal gain."

He outlined every detail—the faked weakness, the conspiracy with Yasmin, the cruel plan to use me for an heir before discarding me.

"Evidence will show that Alpha Richardson maintained full strength while convincing his Luna and pack of his weakness," Judson continued, displaying documents and testimonies with methodical precision.

Anthony's lawyer rose to object. "Pack leadership strategies are not grounds for mate bond dissolution," he argued.

Judson's response was immediate and crushing. "Fraud in establishing and maintaining a mate bond violates our most sacred werewolf laws."

As he spoke, I felt something shifting inside me—a sense of justice finally within reach. But as Anthony's eyes met mine across the courtroom, filled with hatred and something else—fear—I realized this was only the beginning.
