Chapter 3

The pack healer's gentle hands pressed against my stomach, her ancient eyes closing in concentration as she channeled her gift. I lay on the examination table in the medical wing, Cameron pacing behind me like a caged wolf, his agitation filling the sterile room with tension.

"There," Elder Moira whispered, her weathered face breaking into a smile. "Strong heartbeat. Powerful aura already developing. This pup carries true Alpha bloodline."

My breath caught. Despite everything—the betrayal, the lies, the systematic destruction of my faith—life had taken root inside me. Created on the same night Cameron had desecrated our bond, this child was both blessing and curse, hope and heartbreak wrapped in one impossible truth.

"How far along?" Cameron's voice was sharp with interest, not concern.

"Six weeks," the healer confirmed. "Conceived during the marking ceremony, blessed by the full moon's power. This heir will be extraordinary."

I pressed my hand to my still-flat stomach, feeling something fierce and protective surge through me. Whatever Cameron had done to me, to us, this innocent life deserved better. Deserved a mother who would fight for them.

Cameron's phone buzzed. His face lit up as he read the message, and my stomach dropped.

"Arlet's confirmed pregnant too," he announced, as if sharing wonderful news. "Same timeline. Both conceived during the marking moon."

Elder Moira's expression shifted to confusion, then horror as understanding dawned. "Both... during the sacred night?"

"Exceptional circumstances require exceptional solutions," Cameron said dismissively. "Two strong bloodlines producing heirs simultaneously will secure our pack's future for generations."

The healer's ancient eyes found mine, filled with sympathy and outrage. She'd performed countless marking ceremonies, blessed hundreds of sacred bonds. She understood the violation better than anyone.

"I'll need to examine the other she-wolf," she said carefully. "Ensure both pregnancies receive proper care."

"Of course. Schedule Arlet for the same level of medical attention. Luna-level protocols for both mothers." Cameron's casual tone made my skin crawl. Luna-level protocols. For a rogue who'd manipulated her way into our pack, into our lives, into our most sacred rituals.

As if summoned by his words, Arlet appeared in the medical wing doorway, her face glowing with smug satisfaction. "Cameron, darling, I felt the most wonderful flutter today. Our little one is growing strong."

Our little one. The possessive pronoun hit me like a physical blow.

"Both our children are thriving," Cameron corrected, but his eyes stayed fixed on Arlet with an intensity that made the mate bond burn with jealous agony. "We'll arrange for coordinated prenatal care, synchronized ceremonies to bless both bloodlines."

Arlet's green eyes sparkled with malicious joy as she placed her hand on her stomach in mirror of my own protective gesture. "How wonderful that our children will grow up together. Like siblings."

Siblings. Born to the same father, different mothers, conceived through betrayal and deception. The future she painted was a nightmare wrapped in false domesticity.

Three weeks later, the rogue attack came without warning during the new moon's darkest hour. Howls echoed through the forest as our border patrols fell back under coordinated assault. I stood in the Luna command center, pregnant and fierce, directing our defensive formations while Cameron led the main warrior force against the primary threat.

"Eastern border breached," Beta Marcus reported through the mind-link. "Multiple rogues heading for the inner territories."

I pressed my hand to my growing belly and made my choice. "Luna guard, with me. We protect the pack center."

The battle was chaos and blood, claws and fangs in the moonless dark. My Luna guard fought with desperate courage as we formed a protective circle around the most vulnerable pack members—elders, children, pregnant she-wolves. My Beta training kicked in, muscle memory guiding my movements even as my body worked to protect the life growing inside me.

Then I heard Arlet's scream.

She was trapped near the ceremonial grounds, three rogues circling her like predators. Through the pack mind-link, I felt Cameron's instant response—raw panic, desperate need, overwhelming protectiveness that should have been mine.

"Cameron, Natasha needs backup at the pack center!" Beta Marcus's urgent call echoed through our mental connection.

"Handle it," Cameron's reply came sharp and dismissive. "I'm going for Arlet."

The words hit me harder than any rogue's claws. In the moment of crisis, when both his marked Luna and his secret mate faced danger, Cameron's choice revealed everything.

I fought alone.

Three rogues broke through our defensive line, their eyes wild with bloodlust as they focused on me—the pregnant Luna, the ultimate prize. My guard was overwhelmed, scattered, unable to reach me in time.

So I fought for two lives instead of one.

Claws raked across my ribs, drawing blood that soaked through my torn shirt. A massive rogue's fangs caught my shoulder, tearing muscle and sinew. But my wolf raged with maternal fury, and I fought with strength I didn't know I possessed.

When Cameron's warriors finally arrived, they found me standing over three unconscious rogues, blood streaming down my arm, my hand pressed protectively to my stomach. Alive. Victorious. Abandoned.

Cameron carried Arlet to safety in his arms, her barely-scratched form cradled against his chest like precious cargo. She'd suffered a twisted ankle, minor scratches, nothing more.

I walked to the medical wing alone, my shoulder burning with pain, my ribs screaming with each breath, my heart shattered beyond repair.

That night, as Elder Moira tended my wounds and confirmed my pregnancy remained stable despite the trauma, I made a decision that would change everything.

I was done being the forgotten Luna.

It was time to reclaim my power.
