Chapter 3

The morning sun cast long shadows across the pack house's main hall as I descended the stairs, my Luna authority wrapped around me like armor. The decision had crystallized overnight—if Jude wouldn't protect our sacred bond, then I would protect what remained of my dignity.

Willow sat at the head table in the dining hall, her rounded belly prominent beneath a flowing dress as she held court with several pack members. The sight of her in what should have been my place sent ice through my veins.

"Willow." My voice cut through the morning chatter, Luna authority ringing in every syllable. "I need to speak with you. Privately."

The conversations died. Pack members shifted uncomfortably, sensing the tension crackling between us. Willow's green eyes met mine with barely concealed triumph.

"Of course, Luna Natalia." Her voice dripped false sweetness. "Though I hope this won't take long. The baby gets restless when I'm stressed."

I led her to the pack's formal meeting room, my spine straight despite the mate bond's constant ache in my chest. Once the door closed, I turned to face her.

"You will leave Moonstone Pack territory by sunset," I said, each word precise and final. "Take your belongings and go."

Willow's hand flew to her belly in a practiced gesture of vulnerability. "Luna, surely you don't mean—"

"I am Luna of this pack," I interrupted, my wolf stirring with protective fury. "And I'm ordering you to leave. Now."

For a moment, genuine fear flickered across Willow's features. Then the door burst open.

"What the hell is going on here?" Jude's voice boomed through the room, his Alpha aura exploding outward like a shockwave. But something was wrong—the familiar warmth and control were gone, replaced by chaotic, oppressive energy that made my skin crawl.

"I'm exercising my Luna authority," I said, standing my ground even as his unstable aura pressed against me. "Willow is leaving."

"Like hell she is." Jude moved to stand protectively in front of Willow, his wolf's instability making his aura fluctuate wildly. "You have no right to make that decision."

"I have every right. I am your Luna, your mate—"

"You are nothing!" The words exploded from him with such venom that I actually stepped back. "Willow carries my child, my bloodline. She stays. You will not interfere with my decisions again."

The mate bond twisted like a knife, his rejection of my authority cutting deeper than any physical wound. Behind him, Willow's eyes gleamed with satisfaction.

"Jude," I whispered, my Luna mask finally cracking. "What have you become?"

His only answer was to wrap his arm around Willow's shoulders, his chaotic aura settling slightly at her touch. The message was clear—she calmed his wolf in ways I no longer could.

I fled the room before they could see me break.

Two days later, the pack's training session was in full swing when Willow appeared at the edge of the practice field, a small boy clinging to her hand. My heart stopped. The child couldn't have been more than three, with Jude's dark hair and sharp jawline.

"Look, sweetheart," Willow's voice carried clearly across the field as warriors paused their sparring. "There's Daddy."

Daddy. The word hit me like a physical blow.

Jude's face lit up as he spotted them, jogging over with a smile I hadn't seen in months. He scooped the boy up, spinning him around as delighted laughter filled the air.

"There's my strong little warrior," Jude murmured, his voice soft with genuine affection. "Have you been taking care of Mama?"

The boy nodded solemnly. "Yes, Daddy. Mama says the baby will be my little brother."

"That's right." Jude's eyes met Willow's over the child's head, and the tender intimacy in that look shattered something inside me.

Every warrior on the field was watching now, witnessing their Alpha's obvious devotion to another woman's children. The humiliation burned through me like acid.

"Luna?" Beta Marcus appeared at my side, his voice carefully neutral. "Perhaps we should—"

"No." My wolf was clawing at my consciousness, demanding I fight, claim what was mine. But what was mine anymore? "I'm fine."

Willow's gaze found mine across the field, her smile sharp as a blade. She'd orchestrated this perfectly—the public display, the child calling Jude daddy in front of the entire pack. She was marking her territory as surely as if she'd left scent markers.

I forced myself to remain still, to maintain the dignity of my position even as everything inside me screamed. I would not give her the satisfaction of seeing me break. Not here. Not in front of my pack.

But as I watched Jude kiss Willow's forehead while holding another woman's child, I realized that my Luna authority meant nothing if my own mate wouldn't respect it.

That evening, a soft knock interrupted my solitude. Gamma Ryan Mills stood in my doorway, his weathered face heavy with sorrow.

"Luna," he said quietly, "may I come in?"

I nodded, stepping aside to let him enter. Ryan had been with our pack for over thirty years, had witnessed my mating ceremony with Jude, had watched us build our bond from the beginning.

"I've been thinking about your mating ceremony," he said without preamble, settling into the chair across from me. "Five years ago, when you and Alpha Jude exchanged vows before the Moon Goddess. Do you remember what he promised?"

My throat tightened. "To honor our bond above all others."

"To forsake all others," Ryan corrected gently. "To let no other she-wolf come between you and the sacred connection blessed by the Moon Goddess herself."

The words hung in the air between us like an accusation.

"The other elders and I have been discussing the situation," Ryan continued, his voice heavy with disappointment. "What your Alpha has done... Luna, it violates the most sacred laws governing mate bonds. The Moon Goddess doesn't bless unions so they can be defiled with betrayal."

I closed my eyes, feeling the weight of his words. "What are you saying, Ryan?"

"I'm saying that some bonds are too broken to heal," he said quietly. "And sometimes, even a Luna must choose between her pack's stability and her own survival."

The implications of his words settled over me like a shroud. Even the pack elders were questioning Jude's fitness to lead, questioning whether our sacred bond had become something twisted and unholy.

"He's not the same man you mated with, Luna," Ryan said as he rose to leave. "And you deserve better than what he's become."
