Chapter 4

Cecilia made a face at Wendy.

“If I had known you’d tattle, I would’ve kicked you a few more times after I pushed you.”

My gaze turned cold. “Feeling proud of yourself? Just remember, people who act like you always crash the hardest.”

The provocation in Theresa’s eyes burned even hotter.

“Let us wait and see. Sooner or later, I’ll drag you off that ‘Mrs. Lawson’ pedestal.”

She snorted coldly, grabbed Cecilia’s hand, and strutted out of the room.

I said nothing. I simply reached out and turned off my phone camera.

Before walking in, I had already pressed the record button. I had gotten everything.

The ward door slammed shut. Wendy buried her face in my chest. Her sobs were quiet at first, but they quickly turned into loud wails.

“Mom… did I really do something wrong?”

I held her close while rubbing her back with my hand.

“No, we did nothing wrong. Don’t cry, baby. Tonight, I’m going to make this right for you.”

By the time I brought Wendy to the family gathering, Phillip’s parents were already seated.

When they saw us come in, Phillip’s mother, Jenny Lawson, quickly walked over to greet us. Her eyes landed on Wendy’s arm. She gasped when she saw the cast.

“What happened to Wendy’s arm?”

“She fell,” Phillip said quickly, cutting in before I could speak. Jenny gently touched the cast with pain in her eyes.

“Oh, sweetheart… You need to be more careful next time.”

Wendy nodded quietly. I said nothing more and sat down beside Phillip, on his right.

That was when I noticed Theresa sitting on his left.

Catching my glance, Jenny beamed and introduced her.

“This is Theresa, Phillip’s secretary. I have met her several times already. She is a lovely girl.”

Theresa shot me a mocking smile. She stayed close to Phillip’s side and spoke to the arriving relatives with practiced ease.

Everyone sang her praises and complimented Phillip on finding such a capable assistant.

Watching that proud, smug face of hers, I could not help but laugh inside.

As mealtime approached and the table began to fill, I knew the timing was perfect.

I pulled out the divorce agreement from my folder and threw them down in front of Phillip.

“Phillip, let’s get divorced.”

Silence blanketed the table in an instant.

The smile froze on Phillip’s face. “Danielle, must you make a scene today? Haven’t you embarrassed yourself enough already?”

I chuckled. “Embarrassed? Then let me show everyone who should really be ashamed.”

I tossed my phone in front of him. The screen lit up with CCTV footage of my daughter locked in the restroom.

“This was during the piano competition. The one who trapped my daughter in here was none other than Theresa’s sister!

“I tried reporting it. You told me it was just kids playing. You accused my daughter of being too mentally weak to face the competition. You told me I was slandering your perfect lover!”

Everyone’s eyes turned toward Theresa.

Her face turned pale. I tapped on the screen of my phone again. This time, it showed the hospital footage.

In the quiet private dining room, her voice rang out clearly, “I’ll drag you off that ‘Mrs. Lawson’ pedestal.”

I said, “Your lover and her sister have already trampled on Wendy and me. What do you expect me to do? Stay married and wait for you to crush us completely?”

With every word, Cecilia’s face lost more color.

Phillip stared at the screen. His expression was thunderous.

“Mr. Lawson, please, let me explain, I…”

He raised his hand and slapped her hard across the face…
