Chapter 4

"Harriet, do we have to go to the point of divorce?

"I can assure you that I have never betrayed you."

"Never betrayed me?"

I laughed out loud. "What about that video and that Instagram post?

"Albert, I really want to ask you, since you love another girl, why did you marry me? What am I to you?"

In my sophomore year, I got to know Albert and fell in love with him at first sight.

I tried to win his heart. It was a year later that I got a glance from him.

In a winter.

His roommate called me and said he was missing.

I looked for him all night and finally found him before the airport.

His shoulders were covered with snow, and his hair was wet.

The airport had long been closed, and only a few warm yellow street lights were still on.

He sat on the stone steps, looking very lonely.

After seeing me, he hugged my waist like an abandoned puppy and murmured, "She's gone. She won't come back.

"I'm such a failure."

I patted his shoulder and stayed with him in the cold air until dawn.

On that day, my relationship with him progressed rapidly. In less than two months, he agreed to be my boyfriend.

I saw Albert's desperate look, but I never asked him why.

Later I learned that it was because Penelope went abroad on that day.

I listened to his voice, but I didn't have any more feelings.

"Harriet, it is you that I love.

"I only treat Penelope as my big sister. Why don't you believe it?

"After all these years, you gave our relationship up without even asking for my opinion. Do you love me?"

His questioning was ridiculous.

The broadcast announced my flight number. I packed up and stood up, saying, "Albert, sign it. This is how it ends between us."

"Harriet, where are you?

"Where are you going?"

Albert's voice became urgent.

I hung up the phone, cutting off that urgent voice.

My phone was still ringing when I went through security.

Albert's eagerness reminded me of the day when he took Penelope to the hospital.

He knew I was at the airport, and I knew too that airports brought him bad memories.

But I don't want to think anymore how he would feel.

Will he be sad?

Will he sit alone outside the airport again?

I didn't want to care about these anymore.

I turned off my phone and blocked that abrupt ringtone.

The plane was delayed, and complaints filled my ears.

I frowned, feeling uneasy.

Suddenly, I caught sight of a figure in the corner of my eye.

Albert's face was full of anxiety, with messy hair falling on his forehead.

"Harriet, come here."
