Love Is Over

I recounted everything that had happened to Jemima. She was so furious she slammed her hand on the table, "Those two are absolutely heartless!"

She said angrily, "If you hadn't quit your job at the law firm for them, you'd probably be a renowned lawyer by now. Adriana, don't worry. I'll come over to you right away. Keep all the evidence, you absolutely cannot let Simon get away with this!"

"No wonder every time I called you recently, he was the one answering. You've been in a coma in the hospital for days and he didn't even tell me!"

I didn't have the energy to curse at Simon. All I knew was that I was exhausted and didn't want to continue like this anymore. Jemima came to my house to comfort me and I finally calmed down.

The next day, Simon brought our daughter back home. As soon as they arrived, my daughter asked, "Mom, why didn't you cook dinner?"

The displeasure on Simon's face from the other day was gone. He crouched down and patiently explained to her, "Because Mommy isn't feeling well. Daddy will order takeout for you, okay?" He asked me what I wanted to eat, but I had no opinion.

Over the next few days, I used my recovery as an excuse to stay in bed most of the time.

Whenever Simon picked up our daughter and brought her home, they had already eaten.

Kourtney's social media updates continued daily, showing photos of them having dinner together.

One evening, while my daughter was brushing her teeth, I overheard her talking to Simon, "Dad, see? Even without Mom, we won't starve, right? She's always forcing me to eat things I don't like. It's so annoying."

Simon chuckled in agreement. A few days later, he mentioned that his product launch was coming up and he'd be very busy.

To 'ease my worries,' he decided to leave our daughter at Kourtney's place so she could help take care of her.

I asked, "Isn't Kourtney supposed to have kidney issues? How does she suddenly have the energy to babysit now?"

He slammed his glass down on the table with a loud bang, "Adriana, why do you have to be so venomous? Do you get some sick satisfaction out of cursing others behind their backs?"

"Do you even know how much effort Kourtney put into helping me develop this product? While we were pulling all-nighters at the office, what were you doing? Sleeping soundly on your brand-new bed!" With that, he stormed out, slamming the door behind him.

The product launch came quickly. I got ready and went to the venue, which was already packed.

The host had just invited Simon to the stage to speak.

Simon's eyes glowed with excitement. After thanking everyone, he paused dramatically, "This product launch hasn't been easy," he began. "But today, the person I want to thank the most is the one who stayed by my side through countless late nights, Ms. Kourtney Simpson!"

Amid the applause, Kourtney walked onto the stage in an elegant gown, smiling gracefully.

With eyes full of affection, Simon extended his hand toward her, "Kourtney, thank you for your companionship all this time. Today's glory belongs to you."

Kourtney placed her hand in his, tears of gratitude glistening in her eyes.

The audience erupted into applause again, followed by a Q&A session with reporters, "Congratulations to both of you! Mr. Webster, you and Miss Simpson truly make a perfect match."

"Mr. Webster, may I ask what inspired your unwavering dedication to developing this product?"

Without hesitation, Simon exchanged a knowing smile with Kourtney and replied, "My success wouldn't have been possible without Kourtney by my side ..."

My heart brimmed with bitterness. I grabbed a microphone nearby and stood up, "Indeed, congratulations are in order."

At the sound of my voice, both Simon and Kourtney turned to look at me, their faces full of shock.

I looked straight at Simon and continued, "For someone as successful as Mr. Webster, why do you keep failing at something as simple as plotting to murder your wife?"

Simon was instantly flustered, "Adriana! What nonsense are you spouting?"
