Chapter 2

I was five years younger than Grace.

After our parents suddenly passed away, all their property was seized by our relatives. My sister and I immediately were reduced from the apple in my parents' palms to orphans whom everyone could bully.

In order to divide all our property, our relatives sent us all to an orphanage without saying a word.

At that time, Grace was only ten years old and was forced to take on the responsibility of taking care of her younger sister.

With scarce food in the orphanage, she went out to do odd jobs to buy me food.

It was cold in the orphanage at night, so she overlapped two blankets and held me tightly in her arms to coax me to sleep.

Whenever someone in the orphanage bullied me, she picked up a stick and guarded me.

She really tried so hard to imitate our parents and took good care of her ignorant five-year-old sister.

Even though she was later adopted by a wealthy family, she would still sneak into the orphanage during her weekends to bring me things.

Thanks to Grace, I had a happy childhood.

I swore that I would give her a better life and stay with her forever!

One day, I received news that she was going to get married.

I took a leave and rushed to Grace's city.

She told me that it was a family marriage and she couldn't she couldn't regardless of her adoptive parents' kindness for her own selfishness.

Besides, she consoled me that her future husband looked pretty good-looking and had a good reputation. She also said he would take us to the sea after their wedding.

I looked at my sister and realized that her beautiful eyes were filled with curiosity about marriage and affection for her future husband.

I compromised. I couldn't stop Grace from pursuing her own happiness.

After she got married, I never received any letters from her again while I was in the orphanage.

Only occasionally would I receive expensive gifts from her.

I felt a little sad that Grace stopped sending me a letter. Then, I comforted myself that she needed to focus on her family now.

After I entered university, I could visit her.

With this in mind, I packed my bags after the college entrance exam and waited for the admission letter. However, the first thing I received from the postman was Grace's death.

A young nurse in the hospital happened to receive my call when she was sorting out her belongings.

I rushed to the hospital overnight, only to see her body in the morgue.

Grace was lying on the bed, and her white dress stained with red blood. Her belly was bulged, and her entire body except for her face was covered with scars and bruises. Her skin had turned pale and stiff, and she stared in my direction with her pretty but hollow eyes.

I couldn't utter a word but only shed tears.

How could my sister become like this...

The young nurse looked at me sympathetically and handed Grace's belongings to me since I was her only relative she could contact.

Then, she left quietly and gave me a quiet space to unleash my feelings.

I hugged Grace and wailed for a while. After trying to calm down, I trembled and opened the bag of her thing. It was a mobile phone.

I turned it on.

After trying to unlock it with every family member's birthday, including Grace's, I still failed.

Finally, I had a flash of inspiration and entered the combination of Grace's and my birthday to unlock it.

Her phone was very monotonous without any particular software for fun. It didn't look like a young person's phone at all.

I opened the address book, but my phone number was not saved there. Her social platform had no information about me or other friends at all.

There was only one account named "Y".

I was a little confused and opened the album again. It was full of naked photos of Grace like a toy under the camera. She smiled in every picture but looked desperate.

I seemed to realize something, and clicked randomly to open the hidden interface in the phone, and there was only a memo on it.

I clicked it with trembling fingers.

What unfolded before my eyes was all the agony my sister had suffered in the past three years after her marriage. In the beginning, she narrated her longings for her husband and revealed her collapse and shattering in the end. The man she regarded as a hero on her social account was actually a devil.

I stared at Grace's belly in a daze and touched it, only to feel a penetrating cold.

At first, I thought she conceived his child, my little nephew, but it turned out to be the incarnation of her suffering.

That night, with the help of Grace's memo, I met her nominal husband for the first time.

He was the devil who dragged my sister into hell.

He was holding a woman's waist, holding up a glass of wine, showing off his recent achievements. He commented without hesitation on his toy's lack of durability and finally sneered. "A lady from an aristocratic family must be much more durable than ordinary women."

After he finished speaking, the whole place burst into laughter and started to jokingly ask him, "Mr. Thompson, do you want to hunt another chick for fun tonight?"

William shook his head. "It's not easy to find such a stunner, but I heard that this woman had a younger sister before, but unfortunately, the little one died in her childhood."

I wore a mask and hid behind the wall, biting my lips tightly until my mouth was filled with blood; otherwise, I would go completely insane and kill those scumbags.

After the party was over, I asked the attendant next to me and found out his name.

The devil was William Thompson.
